Shortage of ops in chat? (in General)
Once again we had someone in chat get out of hand with no ops around to deal with it.
Anything to be done about this?

sorry, I am here now.
:)
But you cannot be here all the time is the problem.
Maybe look into promoting some of the regulars to Op status?

There was 4 of us around before. I know cause this kid got his chat killed four times at once. Doesn't hurt to give me a CM. At night I'm usually around to receive them.
I gave him a few warnings but nothing going. No ops until Darkpixie showed up, but by that time he left on his own.
You could always try asking around in Carnage, too.
Manson was about to head over there but the kid left in his own time.

When not seeing any chat op in New Players, just type /who carnage and pick one of the chat ups in carnage, or just join carnage and ask for a chat op to come to new players.

And another thing:
when there are no chat ops in the room, still make a good attempt at living up to the PG rules, i saw a chat log of yesterday night (night in my terms) and the player now has been 48!'ed but hasn't had much real warnings of:
- not to use too many lines (spam)
- mind the language
- minding the caps (well he got that one but not truly clear)
No matter who you promote, there will still be times where it's Op-less when needed...

How does one become an op? I'd be up for it, and I'm usually in chat for quite some time each day.

Well Mem: if you check FAQ => admins => #3 then you know the answer.
but the real answer is that admins pick people whom they see fit.

Perhaps a list of Chat Ops would be useful also - or does it change too much ?
I think that would be rather detrimental, seeing as troublemakers might simply wait for a point where all the listed chatops are either idle or logged off before acting stupid.

... but doesnt it work the same as the old cb1 where a chat op could assign temporary op status to someone if they were leaving - I was made an op several times in that situation. It was up to the Chat op to pick a reliable person. As soon as they logged off from the room they would become 'normal' again.

yes it would, but permanent ops aren't assigning temp ops too much. Reason is some people who were trusted acting strange when being temp opped.
but perhaps I can host a list of chat ops on my cbstuff website and keep it updated.

When you temp op someone they usually fall into one of two types. Either they get a big head and abuse the right (rarely happens) or they are afraid to use in fear of being the type that abuses it.
Still, I try to temp op when I'm leaving chat and I know I'm the only active op. I usually just try to pick the same set of reliable people, this way they can get use to using the power when it is needed.

Between the hours we keep,
IA, Bast, Ranger and Myself are in carnage almost all day. It may take a few minutes to get our attention, but we are there.

As for me, i am online during most of the European 'day time' but that will change into evening only next week.
A few Temp Operators might be a good idea....would also be a good way to test some new ones.

If you're going to test for Ops, I'd be up for a test run...=P

There's a
standard test for all CB admins/ops.

hmmm , G_Beee I'm an idiot :p
This is why you are an admin, not an OP, Shade. ;)

Unfair! Even if you tab over to select the "No" button, it still tells you that you're an idiot!

Im an idiot... well that proves the point i have had for awhile. But eh about the shortage of ops thing. I never notice a big problem unless we get a refresher... because then every minute it takes to get an op from carnage is a minute thats not so fun in new players. Im not recommending more ops. But it would help if there could be something done about things like that.
