Wiki Abuse (in Public Record)

Hey guys. I've been noticing that some new players have been having a bit too much fun with the wiki. Just look at the recent wiki changes... mostly changing names of pages and what not.

This, as most of you know, has been brought up before. Many people are suggesting that wiki changing only works for supportership; others that wiki changing is allowed for those who have been playing for a given amount of time, say one or two months.

We could possibly start fining the players or ban them for their actions.

Thoughts? Discuss.

I don't understand why a "rename" option exists. If Jon renames something he should spend the extra 10 seconds to rename it in the wiki aswell... This solves 90% of the problem.

Wiki change privilege for supporters or players who have been here for more than two months only may not make a difference. Looking at the changes you are talking about one of the players has been here for several months.

With regard to brand new players making changes fines or even banning seems a bit extreme. A CM asking them not to make such changes seems appropriate at that point, especially as it is very easy to spot changes and correct them. Unless of course it is constant abuse or the kind of abuse designed to offend or get a reaction.

reoprt the name, have the player fined or banned, clear and simple.

AdminShade February 5 2006 5:42 PM EST

report* even

It's not that simple, many players are confused by the idea, some probably think they can personally change names for their own computer or something. Not everyone's competent. Oh, if only...

Can people lose their Wiki privileges, in the same way they can lose chat or forum?

bartjan February 5 2006 5:54 PM EST

People who abuse Wiki are banned. If you wanted to say goodbye to Firoshen, The Killer or Flikk, then I'm afraid that you're too late.

Go bartjan!

A shame, Flikk thought that renaming the page Ice Familiar to Newt would rename *HIS* IF to Newt.

I had set him straight and told him how to rename it correctly. Too bad he got banned.

QBPixel Sage February 5 2006 11:45 PM EST

Hmm.... maybe we need something on the main page explaining the wiki and how it doesn't effect your items?

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] February 5 2006 11:49 PM EST

Yeah that is what I was getting at Oddbird, some people are just oblivious to this, like many NUB's would be, so it is obviously a more complex problem than originally thought.

Maybe more thought should be put into how to deal with this, to make it easier on the admins and the NUBs.

Deny the new people the rights! Oh wait, that includes me....

QBPixel Sage February 6 2006 3:10 AM EST

Well, from my experience the admins here give no mercy for not reading the rules, which is harsh but that's how it is. I remember Shade fined me 25k for posting in the General forum when he said I should have posted in the FS/WBT forum... even though in the post I wasn't selling/buying anything. I was just asking whether or not people would pay for custom themes, though I wasn't taking any orders. Oh well... of course, banning doesn't exactly give a person a second chance... unless they just make a new account :)

Flamey February 8 2006 1:19 AM EST

bump, and is any action going to be taken here?!?!??! or do we just think of ideas for the fun of it!?!?!

Flamey February 8 2006 2:02 AM EST

more wiki abuse, noob named JustInCase tried to delete everything on RoBF. look at revision to see what damage he had done

AdminShade February 8 2006 11:16 AM EST
