What not to do in chat (in Public Record)

QBRanger February 12 2006 11:33 PM EST

This was part of a conversation in chat about 1 hour ago:
<SaintMichael> Anyone selling a Morg or Axbow/Exbow?
<Ranger> not in chat
<Ranger> perhaps you should look at auctions or FS/WTB
<SaintMichael> =( I'm too stingy to post in FS/WTB
SaintMichael left the room.
- carnage: Ranger has kicked SaintMichael out of the room

I know there is a variation on what chat ops allow in chat. Most allow one ask for selling/buying but after being warned, it has to stop.

Now SaintMichael is not a new player (as evidence by his recents posts about a bank) and full well knows the rules.

After the kick, he went to new players and did the exact same thing.
Now some say if chat is dead, then why not let people ask. But chat was not dead at the time this happened.

So please, if an ops says not to buy/sell in chat, do just that. No stupid answers or witty comebacks. And do not go to other chat rooms and do the same.

Thanks for your time.

I saw the chat logs in New Players to prove this. This goes on quit often. So please use the Forums/Auctions for this kind of stuff.

Weren't there far more stringent guidelines for NP in CB1?

Also a great advert for his bank "I am too stingy ..." :)

For those unfamiliar with the guidelines:

-->If you are selling something that can be auctioned, don't advertise it in chat. That doesn't mean you HAVE to auction it; it just means don't waste my time telling me about it in chat.

-->If you are looking for something that can be auctioned, don't ask "Is anyone selling thus-and-so" in chat, either.

-->Looking for forge work or looking for a forger belongs in the Forging Services forum, not in chat.

-->Other advertisements are OK as long as you follow normal guidelines: keep it on as few lines as possible, and don't repeat yourself when you don't get a response immediately. After the initial message, you should take bargaining to PM; I suggest starting with "PM me if ..."

And, if I remember correctly, fs/wtb is never, ever, ever allowed in chat. Been that way since the Di era, I thought?

Basically, no merchant funny business in the chat. All funny merchant business is to be done in the merchant funny business allowable areas.

Fined him the normal FS/WTB fine, done because he knew he was breaking the rules and was trying, by saying he was too cheap, to avoid the cost.
