Bast is my hero... (in Off-topic)

QBBarzooMonkey February 21 2006 7:08 PM EST

...because she said "schadenfreude". Correctly. In a brilliant metaphor that made an even more brilliant insult.

Please don't fine me Vestax ;)

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 21 2006 7:11 PM EST

Can I be your heroine instead?

*It wasn't an insult ... unless you know "Axe". ;)

QBBarzooMonkey February 21 2006 7:13 PM EST

I do know Axe, which is why you're my heroine :)

QBRanger February 21 2006 7:17 PM EST

Unfortunately, Bast never "said" anything.

She typed it correctly though.

Doom Lit Sky February 21 2006 7:20 PM EST

What exactly does schadenfreude mean?

QBBarzooMonkey February 21 2006 7:21 PM EST

Semantics. "Said" was funnier than "typed". :)

Stephen February 21 2006 7:21 PM EST

How do you know she doesn't speak as she types? If Bast speaks and there's nobody else there does she still make a sound?

InebriatedArsonist February 21 2006 7:42 PM EST

Schadenfreude - to take pleasure at the misfortune of others.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 21 2006 7:43 PM EST

Oh, IA! Give a man a fish or teach one to use dictionary.com. I'm so disappointed. :P

[T]Vestax February 21 2006 7:55 PM EST

Now I can write my Ode to Bast. I write this for you in order to show you my appreciation. (I hope she won't point out my mistakes as much after this.)

From yonder I see our fellow Bast,
Alas her wit is so fast...

Er... that sounds like I'm trying too hard. I'll try not to force it so much.

Whilst shifting through the bits and bytes,
I dearly wait those wordy words of wisdom...

That one is sucking as well. Hmm... I don't think I'll even get through the strophe with my lack of skill, much less finish an entire Ode. Sorry Bast, I suppose I'll just kiss your feet instead and take my frustrations out on Barzoo.

Barzoo, prepare for the fining of your life.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 21 2006 8:28 PM EST

An Ode to Bast (cause poor Vestax's inner poet is in hiding)

Twixt phrase and page an echo is heard
the sound of a word misspelled
quick, no quicker, her ear does cry
and from her fingers a correction flys
oh goddess spellchecker where would
I be...
without you over my shoulder
shaking your finger at me...

Stephen February 21 2006 8:31 PM EST

If she doesnt beat you senseless for 'flys' rather than 'flies' then count yourself lucky!

Stephen February 21 2006 8:31 PM EST

And I'm in for it too with that missed apostrophe!

sssimmo February 21 2006 8:34 PM EST

And here comes sssimmo to take some of the heat off youse guy's!

QBBarzooMonkey February 21 2006 9:23 PM EST

Lisa: Dad, do you know what Schadenfreude is?

Homer: No, I do not know what shaden-frawde is. [sarcasm] Please tell me, because I'm dying to know.

Lisa: It's a German term for `shameful joy', taking pleasure in the suffering of others.

Homer: Oh, come on Lisa. I'm just glad to see him fall flat on his butt![getting mad]
He's usually all happy and comfortable, and surrounded by loved ones, and it makes me feel... What's the opposite of that shameful joy thing of yours?

Lisa: [nastily] Sour grapes.

Homer: Boy, those Germans have a word for everything!

Maelstrom February 21 2006 9:39 PM EST

That's our Monkey, expanding his vocabulary by watching the Simpsons ;)

Xiaz on Hiatus February 22 2006 6:06 AM EST

I prefer my heroes to come with a superhero power.

QBJohnnywas February 22 2006 6:25 AM EST

Bast is my herring.

QBJohnnywas February 22 2006 6:42 AM EST

We could rename our QB BASTE

baste1

basted, basting, bastes
To sew loosely with large running stitches so as to hold together temporarily.

baste2

basted, basting, bastes
To moisten (meat, for example) periodically with a liquid, such as melted butter or a sauce, especially while cooking.

baste3

basted, basting, bastes
To beat vigorously; thrash. To lambaste.

Can anyone guess which definition I'm thinking of?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] February 22 2006 6:52 AM EST

I am that which, loosely, holds the Universe together? And Carbonize impugns my superpower!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 22 2006 7:09 AM EST

What is your superpower? Mine allows me to make a fool of myself after imbibing vast quantities of alcohol! ;)

Although some would say that vast could be replaced with meager... :D

QBJohnnywas February 22 2006 7:12 AM EST

Here's me thinking you were Captain Tulwar. And all your powers are Overpowered aren't they?

Ah, superpowers. I would love to have the ability to be in two places at once right now. I hate work.

Xiaz on Hiatus February 22 2006 7:27 AM EST

Holding the cosmos together? So Bast is the centre of the universe?

Nah, still not impressed.

I once knew this kid who flew from the second story of his house (for a few seconds, how many exactly, I'm not sure, and implanted himself upon the solid ground). In the process he managed to break his leg, and made a fool of himself, without the aid of any alcohol whatsoever!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 22 2006 7:28 AM EST

I've a few superpowers. Call it a secondary Mutation if a fan of the X-Men. ;) Being summon by the call of 'Tulwar' can be more of a curse than a blessing! ;)

Xiaz on Hiatus February 22 2006 7:36 AM EST

I thought that Tulwar thing was more of a syndrome, but if you say it a superpower, who am I to disagree? ;)

QBJohnnywas February 22 2006 7:48 AM EST

GL Syndrome? Is that like Bird Flu?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 22 2006 8:38 AM EST

Less deadly, yet more embarrassing! ;)

QBOddBird February 22 2006 9:55 AM EST

Bird Flu? Where?

Caedmon [Revenge of the Forgers] February 22 2006 10:29 AM EST

South. For the winter.

QBJohnnywas February 22 2006 10:30 AM EST

Oh, very good! lol! ;)
