An Elven Long Sword [80x36] (+20) for sale by G Beee

Didn't even last 2 mins and Grant landed himself a nice ~$850k NW ELS.

Grats :-)

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] March 1 2006 8:32 AM EST

Grant cheats.

Grant March 1 2006 8:35 AM EST

You'll never catch me. :)

UltimaSpock [Forge Frog Services] March 1 2006 8:36 AM EST

I do not think it is a good idea to sell rare items at the shop.

very frustrating for players looking constantly and getting nothing (this is my case)

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 8:44 AM EST

This ELS was sold via auctions, you might want to start checking those too :P

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] March 1 2006 8:45 AM EST

The frustration and boredom are the keys to "camping" aren't they? It's not just the "item", but overcoming frustration and boredom in the process of getting it, no?

Probably more now than ever -- since there is so much less chance of success and you have to check both the store and the auctions.

WeaponX March 1 2006 8:46 AM EST

ha your lucky you never saw camping at it's peak. i would be looking in the shops over 1000 times a day and come up empty

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 8:49 AM EST

Yea, and all the time there were some who could go in and just see the rares that were there and nothing else, that really sucked.

QBJohnnywas March 1 2006 8:52 AM EST

Oh, come on G, you would choose my lunchbreak to do this! After I've spent all morning going in and out of auctions... :/

lol.

WeaponX March 1 2006 8:57 AM EST

funny think about it borderliner. imo if you were doing it long enough your mind & eyes will find the rares for you. i honestly doubt that was as severe as most of the "pure fighters" who hated camping would want it to be unless there was a program that clicked em and bought em very quickly. just seeing them means nothing imo.

QBRanger March 1 2006 9:00 AM EST

From what I heard, from some campers in the past had a script that clicked the rares and clicked the buy button/link as well.

However that could have been urban legend, but my sources are quite reliable.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 9:00 AM EST

let me get this straight Mega, you are saying that using a script which stopped all the non rare items from appearing in the store didn't give an advantage over those that had to scan the whole shop.

Maelstrom March 1 2006 9:05 AM EST

I understood that only one person had such a script, and that was the person who was banned.

WeaponX March 1 2006 9:07 AM EST

from my view Border no. i realistically saw all the items but my eyes could pick the rares out extremely fast. Ranger i can't really see it but your speaking on rumored things i only go on fact or what i've seen and i've never seen it

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 9:08 AM EST

He was the one who probably had the auto buy script, and was banned on the evidence that it was humanly impossible to buy stuff as fast as he was. However I know of at least 2 that were using something but were not banned.

QBRanger March 1 2006 9:08 AM EST

As is the case with multis, most but not all are caught.

Same with the camping script.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 9:11 AM EST

And anyone could use the Google taskbar without detection.

WeaponX March 1 2006 9:16 AM EST

i never really understood the entire reasoning for it's removal if people were cheating so rampantly Ranger why was i still getting rares the old fashioned way? if the cheating was so severe how could a guy come in and do it regularly? that is why i believe it was not a very crucial thing. i still think "some" people saw a chance to get rid of camping and made a mountain out of a mole hill

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] March 1 2006 9:24 AM EST

Just to add my fuel to to the fire, someone asked me would you rather have camping and cheaters using scripts or no camping, I would prefer the former, for the very reasons MM mentions, I was still getting plenty of rares the old fashion way.

P.S. I thought of what I think would have helped. Put the bot check for the store in the "purchasing" portion of the store not the entry. So you click a rare, click buy, then have to fill out a returned bot check before purchase. Sure someone might beat me with their little script (and many did not even though they were using helpers) but they would have to be quicker than me entering a bot check (and there I would have them) especially since their chops for true speed were diminished due to their reliance on a crutch.

But this is not a post saying bring back camping I have a solution so do not bother to dissect it. It is a post saying that I agree with MM.

QBRanger March 1 2006 9:35 AM EST

Sefton,

So your saying that 2 people enter the store at the same time.. One has the cheat script, the other does it the old fashion way.

The one with the cheat will get to the botcheck way before the other. Enters the botcheck before the other even gets to it.

Does not sound like a solution to me.

Tezmac March 1 2006 9:35 AM EST

Back to the thread at hand, good job Grant. GBeee has put stuff in auction like this before. I for one appreciate the little change of flavor to the game that GBeee is providing by selling rares and auctioning stuff off cheaply. Thanks!

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 1 2006 9:36 AM EST

Can you use RSS feeds to notify of auctions?

WeaponX March 1 2006 9:39 AM EST

you are horribly underestimating the speed of a top notch camper Ranger if i check the store see a rare i can get it in 5 seconds or less if i'm sloppy 10 seconds max

QBRanger March 1 2006 9:46 AM EST

MM,

As opposed to 1 sec with the proper scripts filtering all the rares, clicking them and clicking buy?

I would think 1 sec is much faster than 5-10 sec in most realities. That 4-9 sec can mean all the difference in whether or not you get that 4 million cb2 MH. At least that is what campers were selling MH's for before camping was abolished.

While you could get perhaps 30% of the rares you would without anyone cheating, what about those that tried to camp and could not since they had absolutely no chance with the cheaters out there? Not everyone was as proficient at camping as you. But with the cheaters, the normal occasional camper had absolutely no chance at all.

WeaponX March 1 2006 9:50 AM EST

maelstrom still got his hellblender as well. i can not think of more casual campers. new players were hitting rares as well so your argument is completely dead here

AdminG Beee March 1 2006 9:54 AM EST

You're right Tez.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] March 1 2006 10:03 AM EST

Ranger, not sure why a person who never camped would have a such a strong opinion about how I could not camp against cheaters. Unless the cheating started the day camping was removed I had been and would have continued too, kick their cheating rear ends on the way to the CB2 bank. That simple, not only was I doing it, I would have continued to do it, and it would not have phased me one bit :)

One might say CB2 is better because camping is gone. One might say that there were cheaters camping. But NO ONE can look at the success I had and tell me cheaters were hurting my ability to camp. I was not only camping but ALSO maintaining a strong top 10 character at the same time! How were these cheaters hurting me again??????

All I can tell you is ask the campers if they wanted camping gone because of cheaters, and 75% would say no way for certain. The ONLY people who wanted camping gone because of cheating were Jon and those people who did not camp and could not camp EVEN if they could use a cheat script.

So argue until your blue in the face Ranger, but its like me a computer geek trying to tell you how to better heal a broken bone.

QBBarzooMonkey March 1 2006 10:11 AM EST

G Beee, you're right - and not even SNK3R...

QBRanger March 1 2006 10:13 AM EST

This coming from a Blue Faced Ranger:

I have never tried camping. But I know of a few people who, like you, both fought and camped.

You, and I have always said this, were the perfect cb2 player. Someone who camped and fought excellent. However, there were others who fought well and could not camp as well as you. While you could beat the "cheaters" at camping, how fair is it to those that tried on Sundays, or on days they felt like trying to camp and had to go against both you and "cheaters"?

If it were just the dedicated campers, yes I could see letting them decide if camping were to be abolished. However, you there were others in the community, while not full time or even part time campers, who had almost no chance with the cheaters in the fray. Trying to camp vs honest campers like you and Megaman is tough enough. Add those that cheated into the mix and it becomes nearly impossible.

And to those who say some new players did get rares, I say show me whom? If they did, it was a very very rare event that would not have been as rare if the cheating were not present.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] March 1 2006 10:25 AM EST

Cannot refute you there Ranger, with me and the other dedicated campers, and the cheaters a non-camper had little to NO chance. Granted I do not think they had much of a chance really without the cheaters, but that is another issue.

And again I was not saying bring back camping, I was saying do not say cheaters hurt the campers, because they really did not. Did they hurt CB, yes. Was this a good enough reason to kill it, obviously in the only mind that is important it was.
