Checklist for a desert island? (in Off-topic)

Ok, Airline Carnage has crashed on a remote desert island. You're allowed to take one book, one album, one film. Which ones would you take? And, yes this remote desert island has power, and a stereo, and a giant tv/dvd player. But no internet connection. So sorry folks, no CB.

(For the purposes of this Lord Of The Rings, and any trilogy for that matter, counts as three books/albums/films.)

My choices are (current favourites as of 22nd March 2006 - liable to change at anytime...):

Book: Imajica by Clive Barker. Huge fantastic epic. If I get fed up reading it I can always burn it to keep warm.

Album: London Calling by The Clash. Double album, so lots of songs. Plenty of those songs are about London (obviously...), so I can listen when I'm feeling homesick. And it rocks greatly, so it will make me feel good when I'm looking for footprints on the beach.

Film: Lost In Translation. Great film with a great soundtrack (thus cheekily giving me another album to enjoy) and eye candy for those long remote desert island nights.

So the plane's crashed into this island, it's upside down and on fire, and all you worry about is a book, album and film? I'm sure the book would have been lost out at sea, the album shattered and the film, well the inflight movies are enough to put you off any moving pictures :P

Chances are you might get dragged off into the forest by some savage looking tourists too!

Hey I'm stranded on a dessert island. This is no trifling matter. :P

A dessert island would be grand! I would like some gingerbread, and some chocolate cake! :)

Phrede March 22 2006 9:05 AM EST

I would maybe take Imajika as well but my choice I think would be

Book - Raft building made easy
Film - How do build a raft
Music - soothing raft-building music by George Raft and the raftettes

QBBarzooMonkey March 22 2006 9:18 AM EST

Okay, seriously:

Book - any one of the "Swords" series (Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser) by Fritz Lieber

CD - "The Ultimate Experience" Jimi Hendrix

Movie - "Field of Dreams" "People will come, Ray. People will most certainly come."

:)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 22 2006 9:23 AM EST

Book: 'Legend' by David Gemmel
Album: Some massive compilation
Film: Something Adult to pass the time not spent reading. ;)

QBJohnnywas March 22 2006 9:27 AM EST

Ingmar Bergman's Seventh Seal is a beautiful film for you then GL.

Oh, you mean 'adult' films....

Don't forget to plug the CD player and the TV into the socket on that palm tree!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 22 2006 11:43 AM EST

book - any collection of Bukowski poems

album - Pinkerton

movie - Hedwig and the angry inch

Wasp March 22 2006 12:44 PM EST

You crack me up Freed!

The book would have to be a Richard Laymon book, they are great, maybe One Rainy Night. The record, hmm Summer Breeze? The movie, well, I would get a hefty fine if i were to mention the name. But how about one of those dodgy wood workshops like "The New Yankee Workshop". That way I could build myself to stardom :D.

If this deserted island has electricity, couldn't I just bring my 60Gb iPod with an AC adaptor? Load it up with thousands of songs, hundreds of eBooks, and maybe a few movies, and I'll be set!

It would be VERY hard for me to narrow down what I'd bring to a single album/book. I don't think I like any movie enough to watch it repeatedly.
