Is this right about PL? (in General)

QBRanger March 24 2006 7:14 PM EST

This is one side of a recent battle I just had:

Ranged Combat
Gebil takes damage from his own Fireball (70795)!
Gebil's Fireball hit War [1544], Death [5826], Conquest [5429], Plague [6188]
War absorbs damage [5826]
War absorbs damage [5429]
War absorbs damage [6188]

Gebil takes damage from his own Fireball (80908)!
Gebil's Fireball hit War [2140], Death [8503], Conquest [6161], Plague [6146]
War absorbs damage [8503]
War absorbs damage [6161]
War absorbs damage [6146]

R.I.P. Gebil

Now Death and Plague each only have 20 hp but in the 2 rounds of combat War absorbed between 5-8k from each in both rounds.

I checked and War (my wall) actually did take that damage based on the HP he had left.

Should not PL only do the amount of hp that the minion had if it would kill it, in my case 20? Like what happends with VA and leeching hp, or with GA and the damage it does.

I think this is an intensional draw back to PL. Think about it. Sure, it would have only taken 20 HP of all that damage to kill the enchanter, but you needed to absorb all but 19 points of damage in order to keep him alive.

If I take a blow that would kill me 100 times over and you save me from just one of those deaths then I would still die because the remaining 99% damage is enough to kill me 99 times. Point is, regardless of how weak I am, you still need to take the full hit to save me.

I see your point Vestax,

It would be nice for Jon to confirm that.

modified s.t. if original target will not survive blow anyway, PL will have no effect

Grant March 25 2006 4:59 PM EST

Rats. My next char was going to be a tank w. 20 HP and all the real HP in a PL minion behind it.

[T]Vestax March 25 2006 5:58 PM EST

You would need a HUGE DM to go with that Tank so that GA doesn't kill you instantly. Yet I suppose it doesn't matter anymore.

Tezmac's Lackey tapped War with Deaths Scythe [71118]
Tezmac's Lackey draws strength from his weapon! [35486]
Tezmac takes damage from his own Cone of cold (226920)!
Tezmac's Cone of cold hit War [6769], Death [41853], Plague [56071], Conquest [48629]
War absorbs damage [41853]
War absorbs damage [56071]
War absorbs damage [48629]

I think PL is still broken.

Death and Plague only have 20 hp.

However, vs Cosmos and Mishras Factory PL is working as Jon stated above.

An issue with just CoC?

QBRanger March 25 2006 6:05 PM EST

Looking at my battles again:

It seems as if the damage to the 20 hp minions is more than my PL effectiveness then PL works as Jon intends above.

However, if the damage done to these minions are greater than 20 points but less then my PL effective level, it does not work as intended.

Since Mishras and Cosmos each do more than the PL effect I have (about 69k) things work fine.

But.. Vs Tezmac, his COC does between 20 and 69k damage to my enchanters so my PL minion absorbs all that extra damage and my enchanter survives.

[T]Vestax March 25 2006 6:22 PM EST

Ah. Reading Jon's words I believe this particular effect might be intended. Simply put, Jon didn't really address your issue but rather a issue he found himself, which was that the PL minion was taking damage for people who had no chance to survive even with PL intervention.

You can look at that in either a good or bad way. The positive is that you can actually keep minions from dying with PL. The negative is that minions designed to waste the first few mega blows of an opponent won't perform their job if the PL minion manages to absorb enough to save that meatshield.

At least Grant can still make that 20hp Tank like she wanted. But like I said, invest in a lot of DM.

AdminJonathan March 25 2006 10:11 PM EST

yes, it is working as designed now

basically, if you have 20 HP minions that you want to let die, uh, don't use PL :P

Karn March 25 2006 10:17 PM EST

I was wondering that when Jon said "PL has no effect on GA or TBF "retaliation damage," or on AMF", does this mean that the damage absorbed by the PL minion does not activate GA or that when you take GA damage that the PL minion does not absorb it?

AdminJonathan March 25 2006 10:22 PM EST

both
