QB Nominations - 4th Quarter 2005 & 1st Quarter 2006 (in Contests)

About the QB

QB stands for Quarter Blender. The QB is the person who truly represents what CB is. The QB is helpful in chat and forum, and usually does what they can to support the community. The QB is what makes CB what it is and part of the reason why we come back. The QB is a person who has already 'won' the game by making it better. It is just time for us recognize this publicly.

Currently the QBs are Ranger, Bast, and sutekh137. You will note that these players have earned the distinctive title placed before their name. The players you help choose will earn this as well.

The Selection Process:

Before we can have QBs we need candidates for the honor. Candidates are chosen by you. Simply submit your nomination to my email address. Once we have collected enough nominations, a set of candidates will be chosen. Then, in another post I will ask for questions you would like the candidates to answer. The candidates will be given a chance to answer these questions and their responses will be made public. A popular vote of select candidates will be taken and the management of CB will convene to determine who the winners will be using the criteria shown below.

My E-mail: techcrew@fastmail.fm

*This quarter we will be choosing two candidates since we have yet to choose a QB from last quarter.*

The Criteria for Selection:

  1. Time spent on CB2 helping other players and contributing to the CB2 community as a whole. (Such as CB2 tables, strategy, fan sites, etc.)
  2. CB2 Chat participation, CB2 forum participation and CB2 community involvement.
  3. CB2 Popular vote.
  4. CB2 Admin group recommendations.
  5. Jonathan's input.

Rules for Nomination

  1. Nominations must include descriptive reasons why the person you choose should be QB. A e-mail with just a name will be ignored.
  2. Nominees may not be full or sub-admins. Chat Ops are eligible.
  3. You can not submit a nomination for yourself.
  4. Nominees must have been playing for at least 2 months. Since this is for the 4th quarter of 2005 and 1st quarter of 2006, this means anyone with an account predating February 1, 2006 is eligible.
  5. Nominees must be currently active. If they were great, but they are gone, they aren't really a QB any more.

People who are full-admins and sub-admins include bartjan, G Beee, [EG]The Saint, Shade, SNK3R, Special J, and Vestax.

As of 3/26/06 at 2AM CST a 25k fine will be handed out to anyone who mucks this thread up with thier feelings on past QB elections. This is not the place for it.

YNM March 24 2006 11:53 PM EST

Hey GPV, I think you spelt SNK's name wrong.

[T]Vestax March 25 2006 12:12 AM EST

He needs to earn the 3. :P

AdminShade March 25 2006 5:57 AM EST

I think you need glasses :p

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] March 25 2006 1:12 PM EST

Did I miss where you note how long nominations will be open?

QBJohnnywas March 25 2006 1:14 PM EST

I was just wondering the same thing. :)

QBJohnnywas March 25 2006 1:15 PM EST

'Once we have collected enough nominations, a set of candidates will be chosen.'

Stephen March 25 2006 9:37 PM EST

A trivial point but doesn't QB stand for QuarterBlender, as in Quartermaster, rather than Quarterly Blender?

Cylo March 25 2006 9:40 PM EST

*cylo wants to nominate himself, but feels it would be tacky. lol .. please everyone nominate people that deserve the position and have a good time with the QB process. It really shows what everyone thinks about who is really needed in the cb community and what pushes this game. :)

{CB1ate}aupStar March 25 2006 10:25 PM EST

I still don't see what the fuss is all about. I mean, in the end, admins/sub admins and jon will end up choosing the new QB right? Why not just pick someone that you guys like in chat and get it all over and done with..? o_O

[T]Vestax March 26 2006 1:08 AM EST

Bast, you are right. I didn't really set a concrete date and time. I would like to get the whole process rolling but I don't really want to cut the nomination process short either. My hope is to keep this bumped for most of the timezones until the nominations start to become sparse or overly repetitive.

Stephen, you may be right. If you can get someone else to confirm then I'll change it in a jiffy.

aupStar, at the very least I would like to know what the community thinks. I personally give great importance to the popular vote.

Special J March 26 2006 2:58 AM EST

Those who already have read the first post in this thread please do so again, pay close attention to the last part of it.

I'm tired of every conversation that involves QB elections turning into a pit of flames and that's your warning.

Carry on.

QBsutekh137 March 26 2006 9:43 AM EST

A quick Google war for "quarter blender" versus "quarterly blender":

"quarter blender" = 290 finds, many about Carnage Blender.
"quarterly blender" = 8 finds, none CB related (this post must not have been Google-walked yet).

I would say "Quarter Blender" is probably the correct term, and it is what I always recall from past CB1 and CB2 quarters.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 26 2006 10:02 AM EST

And if we get Ranger to post in this thread, it would contain three quarters of CB2! :D

[T]Vestax March 26 2006 11:11 AM EST

Fixed, thanks sutekh and Stephen.

AdminShade March 26 2006 3:27 PM EST

aupStar:
imo the public has to think of the people who they think deserve it to become a QB
then it's up to other people to narrow down the number of nominees.
finally it's up to certain people, who all look after CB to also mention their 'most popular / best fit' note.
finally it's up to jonathan to do the final vote :)

{CB1ate}aupStar March 27 2006 3:34 AM EST

The current system for deciding the QB is tragic.

It would be better if you guys/gals just reject nominees if they don't fit the criterion and let the CB community have the final say. In that way I think both parties would be satisfied.

In its current state, the next QB will not be looked upon as someone to aspire to (as it should be), but more as someone to scorn at for being the favoured pet of the Jonocracy.

bartjan March 27 2006 3:46 AM EST

Aupstar, maybe your definition of a QB is different from what is described above?
QB is *not* a popularity contest...

QBJohnnywas March 27 2006 3:51 AM EST

'In its current state, the next QB will not be looked upon as someone to aspire to (as it should be), but more as someone to scorn at for being the favoured pet of the Jonocracy.'

The criteria for selection hasn't changed recently has it? It's exactly the same criteria that enabled the selection of Ranger, Sutekh and Bast and I wouldn't exactly describe them as pets of any kind. Certainly in the case of Ranger, if he is a pet of the Jonocracy he's not been tamed/housebroken! ;)

If there is a flaw in the selection process it is simply this: Not all the players in the game frequent chat and not all frequent the forums. Requiring somebody who has a foot in every area of the game is I suspect at the moment not an easy requirement to meet.

QBJohnnywas March 27 2006 4:39 AM EST

Mmm. Perhaps I should have refrained from posting that here. My apologies. Sending 25k to Central Bank.

{CB1ate}aupStar March 27 2006 5:26 AM EST

Popularity contest?

I see the poll in a different way. It allows us to think about who should be QB in the same way that you (the Jonocracy) are doing. Stating that going by the vote would make it a popularity contest just demeans the CB community as a whole.

Jonny, I don't mean to say that the past QBs were bad choices, I just feel the way they were picked was wrong. I like both sutekh and bast for what they've contributed to the community. I would probably have voted for them both if I could. Alas, I do not know 100% about what how much the other contenders have contributed to this great community and so the poll provides us with a great insight into how much they may/may not have contributed.

In the current situation I'm led to feel that the generous input provided by the CB community is neglected in favour of the opinions of a select few. A select few that knows far less about the contenders than the entire community combined.

Xiaz on Hiatus March 27 2006 6:05 AM EST

Yeh, QB Bast has definitely improved both my spelling and grandma. :)

[me]Davis March 27 2006 6:56 AM EST

I nominate lukey for his giving nature to the carnage blender community. He has given so much to the inhabitants of this friendly game from being a mentor to writing the storys we love very much... that's why i nominate him

AdminG Beee March 27 2006 7:18 AM EST

davis, if you want your nomination to be considered by Vestax you have to email it to him otherwise it will be disregarded.

Ref instruction in his initial post:
Simply submit your nomination to my email address.

QBsutekh137 March 27 2006 10:28 AM EST

I worship our Jonocrat overlords! I wash their cars! I am a pet! Purr. Purrrrrrrr. Pet me! Love me! SCORN ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

{CB1ate}aupStar March 27 2006 10:49 AM EST

pfft, sutekh, we all know Jon loves you...xD

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 27 2006 10:57 AM EST

/pet Sutekh

;)

[T]Vestax March 28 2006 12:10 AM EST

Closing the nomination process this Friday.

AdminG Beee March 28 2006 2:45 PM EST

Maelstrom March 28 2006 2:58 PM EST

Since we're choosing two QBs, should we nominate two people, or just one?

QBsutekh137 March 28 2006 7:08 PM EST

I have made multiple nominations before when only one QB was being chosen, so I hadn't even thought of that.

I made two this time... Clarification would be good, though. I would hate to think one of the people I nominated would be counted but the other wouldn't...

AdminG Beee March 29 2006 5:49 PM EST

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 29 2006 6:37 PM EST

Mr Bump ftw!!

I'm Mr Worry myself... :(

Stephen March 29 2006 6:39 PM EST

There isn't a Mr Drunk, is there?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 29 2006 6:53 PM EST

No.. :( But there should be! :D

Adult Mr Men!

Mr Drunk. Mr High. Mr Beatenhusband. Mr Vagrant. Oh the fun I could have with this! :D

Stephen March 29 2006 7:14 PM EST

Adult Little Misses could be more interesting...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 29 2006 7:24 PM EST

Oh Def! But they would get you so easily banned! ;)

Stay away from Little Miss Floosie though!

Cylo March 29 2006 8:23 PM EST

I would like to know if there was a way to find out who has been nominated so that you don't get mail after mail of the same people being nominated. If you aren't wanting everyone to know then I understand. Just thought maybe that it would cut down on multiple people nominating the same person.

Oh and I still want to nominate myself. LOL.
