Background Picture (in Contests)

Mandy [Journey] May 3 2006 12:29 AM EDT

I'm looking for a backgound pic for a webpage. I'm googled to death and so I'm going to delegate this activity to you all. I really have no theme, the background will set the theme.

Post the link in the thread or if its small and you know html, post the pic in the post.

Whoever picks out a bg pic I like and use will get 50k (If i can scrouge up more money i will...i really need a good bg pic)

i liked that site a little bit - some struck my attention but none to keep me from continuing my search :)

Hakai [Aye Phelta Thi] May 3 2006 3:01 PM EDT

Uh, that's an awfully wide and vague description...perhaps if you narrowed it down to what you don't like? Something, anything, would be helpful...

Mem May 3 2006 3:06 PM EDT

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

You should use that. I took it myself, but I wouldn't mind. I have a much larger version that I could email to you if you like it.

Mandy [Journey] May 3 2006 9:28 PM EDT

well my problem is not to much interests me in a way that i wanna really use it as a theme... i do like angels... but i like hellish angels (not the bike club) what i mean by that is kinda compared to an innocent school girl... the angel looks innocent but really you know she's trouble(not the same type of trouble as the example).. fairies are the same way (i like faries but i prefer angels) i like butterflies if they aren't too chickish (meaning pink cartoony) my favorite colors are black and dark blue and dark purple (in that order)

I can say that there is one thing that is my favorite thing in the whole world but it wouldnt make a good theme (i dont think) i have a fascination with things that glow in the dark.... (hince the name glow angel/glowie/etc)

(I dont think this makes it any less vague but hey)

RedWolf May 3 2006 9:55 PM EDT

would myspace backgrounds be the same as desktop backgrounds? if so you might check out Caedes or Digital Blasphemy. There's some cool images on those sites, but most of them are copyrighted so I don't know if you can use them or not.

Mandy [Journey] May 3 2006 10:00 PM EDT

as long as i can save the picture and get a url for it - it will work :)

Mandy [Journey] May 4 2006 5:21 PM EDT

because im not getting many responses, and i have yet to find what im looking for - i will go ahead and close this contest unless alot of people suddenly appear to have an interest

Angel of Death [Hell Blenders] May 4 2006 5:45 PM EDT

this pic owns

Maelstrom May 4 2006 6:13 PM EDT

There's a big difference between a good picture, and a good background. A background should not make the text difficult to read. Unfortunately, most people who put together their own websites (and especially those who customize their myspace pages) don't seem to understand this.

Angel of Death [Hell Blenders] May 4 2006 6:24 PM EDT

if you put the words in red or a different color you could easely read it

Maelstrom May 4 2006 6:33 PM EDT

I certainly couldn't read red text on that pic, but that's me. In fact, I can't think of any colour that would show up on that...

Glowie, I have a number of good background pictures that I collected years ago. Can you give us some idea of what you want? For instance, colours, styles, designs...?

Mandy [Journey] May 5 2006 12:31 PM EDT

that is my problem i cant seem to find something that i can imagine text colors looking good with... thats why i havent found anything good yet.
the reason the page is the way it is now cause i was learning how to do it and just did whatever i could do to see what i was changing ;p i quite frankly think its ugly

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] May 5 2006 12:40 PM EDT

Myspaces, it seems, are supposed to be ugly. If you can't manage ugly, go with tacky.

AdminShade May 5 2006 1:06 PM EDT

If you have photoshop or the gimp, then you should be able to fade out colors a bit.

House May 6 2006 1:44 AM EDT

Mandy [Journey] May 6 2006 2:37 PM EDT

so far i like the first one house listed - i seen one like it before and i liked it but i would have to almost make a watermark out of it in order to make it work. i am going to keep looking though

Thraklight Resonance May 6 2006 7:56 PM EDT

Mandy [Journey] May 8 2006 3:46 PM EDT

thrakattack, that one is pretty cool, but it would not fit me for a myspace page.

I do not have any photshop like programs on my computer. I would be interested in seeing the first pic house listed faded out - almost like a watermark. could anyone do that for me - please? if I like the watermarkish look - i just might use it (that or just see how snazy i can get with paint and create one =( )

that looks blurred to me, im referring to making ther contrast/brightness lighter so that the image becomes more transparent

Mandy [Journey] May 11 2006 8:13 AM EDT

I have decided that i absolutely like House Shannara's first option. I have faded it out like I want it (using Microsoft Word), but the picture does not transfer well to paint with copy/paste. I can send someone the word document if youll make it a "picture file" for me.

Pet0sh May 14 2006 10:26 AM EDT

I'm pretty sure you would have MS Paint. If copy and paste, or dragging the picture doesn't work, you could printscreen it.

And then just do save as and choose whatever image type you want.

Sukotto [lookingglas] May 15 2006 12:43 AM EDT

If you really insist on having a background image (and I advise against it), you might like something off one of these sites.

  1. Mayang's Free Textures which are free to download and use anyway you want.
  2. iStock Photo which will cost you $1~$5 depending on how big it is
  3. I really encourage you to reconsider though. Background images are so 1990s and are considered pretty childish by just about everyone in the web development industry. Far better to have a neutral background which allows you to show off your content in the best light.

Mandy [Journey] May 15 2006 8:22 AM EDT

Pet, I did that and the quality sucked, profously.

I don't like pictures that eat up the whole page, but I dont want to be plain jane, hince the "washout" I did. I Just don't have the time to put it all together to make sure it looks right ;p
