Proxy Error... (in General)

Tezmac May 26 2006 9:57 AM EDT

This morning while trying to log on to CB from home (68.35.85.248), I kept getting a page basically telling me that logging on from proxies isnt allowed. I havent run into this error before. Has something changed behind the scenes on CB recently? I got the same message in both of my browsers (IE, FF), I checked my PC for viruses and spyware to make sure some external software wasnt messing with my connection, and I even went so far as to place my PC in the DMZ in my router (like that would really help). I know others from here have had issues with this as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? If I cant log on from home, theres pretty much no reason for me to keep playing, which would be unfortunate.

this happens from time to time, shouldn't take longer than a few days and then its gone forever again..

Shade that's a miserable solution to a serious problem.
Any better ideas? Have you tried using a proxy?
I figure if it doesn't like your ip find one that it does like.

I cant change my IP though, its assigned by Comcast. I can change my internal IP, but that shouldn't really make a difference as CB cant see inside my firewall anyway....or can it.... :O)

honestly novice this problem has hit some people, and only for a few days at a time.

I can't explain what the problem is but it's something that CB does to check for banned IPs and disallowed proxies. sometimes normal players get hit by this and cant log in for a day or so...

I honestly can't believe (and this isn't at all an insult to you Shade) that Jon would implement some kind of rolling IP check that would block a user out for days. He'd have to be as intelligent as sP(Sandy) to lock people out of a game for that long where usage of time is of the utmost importance. It has to be something else, probably something on my end I haven't thought of yet.

Tez: you can use a proper proxy to alter the ip that cb sees you from. It isn't a great solution but it gets around whatever this bug is, There are prior threads where folks got answers from Jon even, I'll look and see if I can find one.

blitzed mis-reported some IPs as open proxies. CB only checks IPs once every cache flush, so when this happens just wait until the next day and you'll be fine.

or you can panic. it's up to you. :)

That leaves you with my suggestion...

CB uses two DNS blacklists to keep known open proxies off CB. It has done this for years.

Sometimes the blacklists are wrong. This is unfortunate, but it's worth it to have an automated anti-proxy weapon.

It seems to happen now and then. My home IP was blocked one morning, but when I got back home in the evening, it was corrected...

I was about to post something at work, but right then my IP got "proxified" as well! Now I'm home and everything seems to be working, thanks for the replies everyone. I guess patience is a virtue after all... :O)

This happened to me once a few weeks ago. It suddenly had blacklisted the IP address I had been using for months.

When the message came up, there was a link to contact the Blacklist Company and try to get your IP removed. The site was down at the time I tried to contact them, so I attributed the message to their site being down.

Next time someone gets this error screen, I would recommend trying to contact the site and see if it is accessible.
