AC base armor question (in General)

BlueWolf May 27 2006 8:44 AM EDT

I feel stupid for asking, but is it possible to get the "legendary" 477 AC on just base items? Some mojo was telling me about how it could be done, and I just wanted someone who knew what they were doing about armor to answer this question.

Uhh....

if you mean base as in Adam is base 40 AC, then no...

if you mean something else, I have no idea, but its probably impossible to get 477 AC now without protection adding AC anyways

What's so "legendary" about the number 477?

BlueWolf May 27 2006 9:18 AM EDT

people are telling me if you have 477 AC, you can't get hurt by anything, and i was wondering if you only equipped base armors, like someone else was saying, that you would reach 477 AC.

deifeln May 27 2006 9:21 AM EDT

No

AdminShade May 27 2006 10:13 AM EDT

There is no way to reach 477 AC by using base armors...

There even isn't a way to be completely invulnerable.

bartjan May 27 2006 11:26 AM EDT

There is also a (huge) random factor in the AC formula. True, on average you're invincible at 477AC, but no battle is average ;)

What in the heck?
Base AC?

It may be possible to get that high without cb1 style prot, however the cost is likely to be more than any one team in cb2 has. Some folks have claimed a price tag of less than 100 mil for the 477 ac set, I just can't see that happening.

QBPixel Sage May 27 2006 4:31 PM EDT

Who in the world told you that? And if it was possible, wouldn't you assume that a bunch of people would already have it? Hehe

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 27 2006 4:37 PM EDT

ahh ok I think I understand part of the confusion.

477 AC is number that should theoretically make it so you take no damage from the majority of physical hits (better than half).

You used to be able to hit this after hitting 400 AC, now obviously it's not so easy. Some of the armor now has a higher base, which may make it possible. For those of you behind with the times, protection doesn't stack. I think Taylor may not understand that it's 477 AC on ONE minion, not on a whole team.

QBsutekh137 May 27 2006 5:01 PM EDT

Of course Protection stacks...it stacks by level just like every other enchantment. The _levels_ stack in additive fashion. The _result_ of the enchantment, however, is not additive.

And even if it did, Protection does not count as AC here. It is, in some shape or form, a percentage of damage reduction. Such a phenomenon cannot, by definition, lead to complete invulnerability.
