Why do we have such a small no equipped item restriction? (in General)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 15 2006 4:31 PM EDT

Since I figure I am about 0 for 2, might as well go for the hattrick.

Now that there is no camping, AND that equipping gear on place holders actually takes thought because of NW and getting fought, and going into the negative, why do we have such a low number of items that can be unequipped per character? I have to have two mule characters and one loophole farm just to hold all my gear. Since I cannot start a NCB until the next lunar eclipse (or was it sun spot flare) maybe I could mess around with other ideas using the other character slots. I could do this if I didn't have to have 3 of my 5 characters dedicated to holding gear.

Since I can no longer get every corn the store pops out, and hold a couple of hundred of them on my character, why not loosen the number of items that can be unequipped?

drudge June 15 2006 4:44 PM EDT

why do you *need* 3 characters worth of gear? pretty much all the gear i use is on my characters....the rest is like low level stuff for when i start over.

seems like its your decision to have 3 characters with max gear on all of them, not Jon's.

OK here is the list minus anything that would not show up as a rare item in the filter, which does include some big leathers, compounds and h xbows and base weapons, you tell me what I should do with it. I do not need any CB2 $ I have plenty, I do not want USD, whats the point of converting to CB2 when down the road I might want to go three tanks and have the buy the same gear back (which I have done toooooo many times to count)

I have been playing this game since it began, the day it began, the hour it began, and I was a decent camper, so I have some extra gear. I think the current restriction is silly and arbitrary, was at one time justified with some sort of camp and hold to inflate price rationalization, which is basically sun spots, so I think again to help keep the players who have been here the longest interested, you might have to make some adjustments, OR you could fully and wholly embrace all the new players and go for constant turn over.

AdminShade June 15 2006 5:42 PM EDT

keep your 4 minion high MPR character on retired and have it unretired when you need it ;)

(yes lame remark, which doesn't even work properly but still, only way atm unless you dump it on a 4 minion character which would render it being retired also)

Shake Some Action June 15 2006 5:55 PM EDT

Basically you are holding onto things that other people can use, most of which you never will use, and you are complaining that you have trouble holding on to all that? I think I'm missing something.

AdminShade June 15 2006 5:57 PM EDT

you are missing something, he actually now is using all of it. but when starting over with an NCB char, he can't use it for a while, and cant put it on a character without destroying it and have it retired.

Maelstrom June 15 2006 6:00 PM EDT

You can send them to me. I'll hold on to them, don't worry.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 15 2006 6:03 PM EDT

but and this is all too common around here, but you are trying to justify not changing it but saying my reason for wanting is invalid instead of saying why it is good unchanged.

I know in this case it is because you can think of no good reason for the limit, so instead you attack the reasoning behind why change instead of why keep it the same, if one person wants it changed. A valid debate tactic designed to toss the presenter off topic and into defense. It will not work here. I still say there is no valid reason for the current limit, and any of the so called defenders of the limit in the post so far at least have done nothing to create valid reasoning.

You can try and prove the negative if you want, but many with greater minds have failed.

bartjan June 15 2006 6:10 PM EDT

What I think the reason there is such an item and character restriction is still valid: to stop people from hoarding all items of a specific type they can find.
A few years ago it was Steve G that was hoarding all light crossbows he could find, which made it much harder for newbies to get a decent ranged weapon.
Back then, the limits (number of characters and the number of items per character) where more relaxed than they are now.
Hoarding rares is also not a valid reason. Rentals is made for that.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] June 15 2006 6:27 PM EDT

You still have to have a "character" to rent the items from bart. Last time I check that rented item still counted against your limit. Also, if it does not count against your limit, what happens when the rental goes off and the item returns and you now have more than the limit on the character....I will tell you what happens, a random character scrubber comes along and removes the items that put you over the limit eventually.

Again, a whole bunch of reasons why my idea to change it is bad, and not a single reason why the current lmit is good. I am NOT asking for unlimited, which I guess theoretically then could cause a supply problem maybe eventually, but I doubt it, but an increase from the current limit to something greater than the current limit, OR ok Im fine with more characters, give me the supporter more characters, whatever, I need more if I have to wait 4 month between starting new characters.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] June 15 2006 8:53 PM EDT

with the large drop in the number of chars a person can have it would seem to make sense that the restriction be upped to at least double what it was on cb1.

drudge June 16 2006 7:07 PM EDT

i guess just completely stop playing for 4 months with all your gear where it is.

Mikel [Bring it] June 16 2006 8:51 PM EDT

I am on Sefton's side on this. Why the limits on items? Everything is in auctions now, so one or two people can't win it all. I have more gear than Sefton, and most of my stuff is in rentals. Rentals is good for new players, it helps them test out gear with out having to spend money on it to find out if it's good for their particular strat, and of course it's good for me, but if you do the math, I won't make money off of most of my gear until it's been rented at least for over a year straight. Believe me, I've calculated it and now I base a lot of my purchases for rentals on that figure alone. IE if I buy that MCM at XXX,XXX, then divide it by the price that I could rent it at (minus fees), and keep it rented almost all the time, how many weeks will I have to wait before I can actually see anything back on my investment. Question is will the game still be as strong in one year from now to at least be able to start turning a profit, not to mention how many cycles will I have to go thru of this item not being high demand for a month or two. It's a risk I'm taking. There's no bank or other really valid way to make money other than baby sit auctions, and I love this side of the game just as much as I love fighting.
