Arsonist and AoD have chars that have a DD spell trained and a weapon equipped at the same time. I just don't understand it. Why would they do that?

that weapon is a scythe or a whip, its fun to put low-level melee weapons on mages.

For fun. Just because you can't use them doesn't mean you can't equip them. :P

Don't expect logical behaviour from AoD - we all gave up on him long ago ;)
But don't forget Susan Death, the original scyth-wielding mage :)

It's the same reason as giving a base dagger to an Enchanter, just for looks ;)

funny thing is that, if you see a newb with a weapon and a DD spell, its wrong but not for us.
btw i got whips and bolts on my mage and enchanters :D

Shade: there can be a reason for doing that. Equipping a base ranged weapon or melee weapon allows you to quickly see how often the enchanter/wall survives into melee.
Weapons on enchanters and mages are useful when the minion in question wears a tattoo that spawns a familiar. The weapon controls the order in which the familiar spawns.

Bart: how does equipping a weapon have that effect? You can read play-by-play without it...

Play-by-Play takes too much time. Seeing your DX be different than your ST in the battle summary is much quicker.

True, that is also a nice side effect.
you ever saw me without my scythe? im not AoD without my scythe, i cant live without my scythe (well cant take souls without it)
"Weapons on enchanters and mages are useful when the minion in question wears a tattoo that spawns a familiar. The weapon controls the order in which the familiar spawns."
It's useful for enchanters, but not for mages. DD spells are clased as weapon in this case, so euipping one has no effect. The DD spell over rides the attack prioirty of the wepaon, so unless you're using a bow on a CoC/decay mage, euipping a weapon on a mage is fornothing but looks. :) (Or storage!)
What would Susan be without her scythe? Many professions have specialized tools, and the business of Death is certainly no exception!
And, for the sarcastically-challenged, the scythe is just for looks.

Bah, anyone can throw a newb weapon on an enchanter or mage, but its the really cool people who forge newb weapons to big stats.
