Firefox Bug in Frames (in General)

AdminQBVerifex June 22 2006 4:07 PM EDT

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Not sure entirely what is doing it, probably one of the extensions that wasn't coded properly, but basically it is this:

If you open CB in the first tab to the far left in firefox, chances are VERY good that every single link you press on the left navigation bar will try to break out of frames and cause the whole screen to refresh. In order to get around this, the obvious answer is: Open CB in your second or third tab. I wish I knew why this weirdness happened, and I'll see about posting it here for the firefox folks to have a look at. :)

That is all, back to your regularly scheduled blending.

I presume it's not another example of this bug?

AdminQBVerifex June 22 2006 4:41 PM EDT

Yes, it is, and this is either:

A) A credentials issue(html page trying to manipulate things out of its realm) (which it is obviously not, since if you open it in another tab everything works fine)

B) A bug related to the code we use here on CB. I'm testing it and it looks like even IE suffers from this issue. This does seem like a bug in all seriousness.

At work I use Firefox, and I *always* have CB in the left most tab.

AdminShade June 22 2006 5:00 PM EDT

Same here, I always have CB as my primary or left most tab and it NEVER breaks out...

Further I am using Winblows XP professional.

You're missing the point guys. It depends which page you navigate from not what browser you are using.

Go make bbc.co.uk you home page (or just navigate there) and then navigate the same tab back to CB. Try fighting and you will lose your sidebar. BBC or FF default page, same effect.

AdminShade June 22 2006 5:05 PM EDT

Then it has nothing to do with HOW you start CB with, but when.

If you start it as your first page => all ok
If you come from another page => possible uh oh...

AdminG Beee June 22 2006 5:08 PM EDT

Doesn't matter where you start. If you navigate away and then come back it won't work and you must either open a new tab in FF or a new window in IE.

Go try it and you will see. Choose any page on www.bbc.co.uk then navigate to CB and try fighting.

It's never happened to me, and CB is normally my left-most tab. Sometimes I navigate away, but the world doesn't end...
