Carrying on from the test thread.
Here are two un named sword I found in past auctions;
A Katana [74x72] (+26) $1,183,201
A Blacksword of Nan Elmoth [92x50] (+25) $1,731,096
For 600K NW less, the Katana has an extra '+' and and extra 22 'x' over the BoNE.
With the BoNE having a lower upgrade cost for both 'x' and '+', how is this possible?
HO HO HO!
I feel silly now! ;)
The Katana is from a current auction, the BoNE is one from an auction *before* the damage change in June...
*whistles embarrisedly*
VP, the two wepaon you posted in the other thread, was one of them from before the damage change on June 30th? ;)

I thought the damage modifiers for old auctions would have been updated to the new standard, but after looking at them more closely they certainly haven't.
There do not seem to be enough examples in pre or post dmg change auctions to draw any kind of comparissons, so I guess I will have to sticck with the exceedingly long answer I gave in your 3rd thread about this subject.
The only way to truly find out as Ranger stated would be to use each item, and map the dmg output, and pth upgrade curve of each weapon. I don't have cash or time to even think about doing that, so maybe during my downtime before my NCB I will play around with it.
As you don't even believe in Dex, I have to assume you most likely don't put any faith in PTH, and just figure mulitple hits come from the multiple hit fairy...... Therefore I wouldn't ask you to do that kind of testing.

pluses cost a lot and are variable. on cbstuff I have listed base NWs and those haven't changed.
we know the new linear X upgrade costs and you can compare all the weapons through that.

LOL VP you miss the point again...
I know as much as Jon has released about how multiple hits work. Check out the old contest thread.
I know strategic reasons why you can drop Dex. Ask Sutekh or Todd.
I know why, in my compariosn of damage *only* (it wasn't a comparison of strategies) why Dex isn't an issue.
Why don't you enlighten me then. And explain exactly how multiple hits, chance to hit, plus to hit and dex gaps work, or how many hits per round Jon has based magic to physical damage on?

what I would like to figure out is how that x actually affects the damage output of the respective weapons though shade....
