Why can't they be bands? A band isn't a group. Or is it a group isn't a band? Anyways...
Pixies
The Decemberists
Elliott Smith
Or is it Pixies, Elliott Smith, The Decemberists? I'm not sure.
My favorite group of all time is the Goo Goo Dolls. After them, these are some of my favorites:
Matchbox 20
Cake
Audioslave
Red Hot Chili Peppers
No Doubt (first CD is the best)
Third Eye Blind
Hoobastank
And many many more.
That's a lousy hard question, so I'll give a lousy lazy answer.
Lagwagon
Ledbelly
Entombed
(I picked three of my favorite bands from three genres)

This is difficult. Consider my wife's reaction to my music collection:
"You've got 4000 cds!! Where the hell are we going to put them?!?!?!?"
And it can change from time to time depending on my mood...so:
The Clash
The Jam
Super Furry Animals
Or:
Orbital
Saint Etienne
Aphex Twin
Or:
The Who
The Kinks
The Small Faces
Or:
Blur
Prefab Sprout
ABC
Or:
Al Green
Isaac Hayes
Marvin Gaye
Or:
Prince
Kraftwerk
David Bowie
No, I can't do it! I've just thought of several other lots of 3. I could simply go on all day long. Shuffle on an MP3 player is possibly one of the best inventions known to music fans. I love that....
Thrasher
August 2 2006 4:34 AM EDT
Well it has to be the big 4 of thrash for me! \m/,
Alice In Chains
Guns and Roses
Bon Jovi! (We all have our guilty pleasures :P)
I love a lot more but these are the ones that I can repeatedly listen to :)

i really like alot of different stuff, AFI, Death Cab to Cutie, Cartel, Coheed and Cambria, Tool, The Who, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Godsmack, PANIC! At The Disco, etc..
Nine Inch Nails
Aphex Twin
Rammstein
Tool
.. tons more, but that is a good summary .. Moods play a big role in what music I like / listen to as it does with most everyone else.

Right now listening to Strauss Favourite Waltzes and enjoying every bit of it :)
1. Metallica \m/
2. Johnny Cash
3. Pink Floyd
O M G how can Metallica not be in the spell checker???? That verges on blasphemy!!!!!!
This is difficult. Consider an ex-girlfriend's reaction to my music collection:
"You've got 4000 cds!! You've got every song from every cd listed in a database. You can recite the entire historical membership, by instrument, of bands like King Crimson and the Soft Machine, but you still can't remember if my eyes are green or blue!!!!"
And it can change from time to time depending on my mood...so:
The Clash
The Jam
Super Furry Animals
Or:
Orbital
Saint Etienne
Aphex Twin
Or:
The Who
The Kinks
The Small Faces
Or:
Blur
Prefab Sprout
ABC
Or:
Al Green
Isaac Hayes
Marvin Gaye
Or:
Prince
Kraftwerk
David Bowie
No, I can't do it! I've just thought of several other lots of 3. I could simply go on all day long. This post is not to imply that Johnnywas and I are multis (he remembered his wife's eye color), but it does indicate that we are both music geeks with way too much music and not enough time to listen to all of it.
Oh, hey
Porcupine Tree
Opeth
Meshuggah
As with most people it depends on the mood, but I'd have to say my two favorite bands are definitely Clutch and Primus. After that I'd say there is a fairly big group.

Lol at thrak. It's difficult being a music geek. My downloads are causing concern too. I've filled up about 2 gig on our computer in the past week or so - with stuff I actually want and listen to!
My wife loves music herself, and more so than any of my past relationships - but she sometimes laughs/despairs at my obsession with it!

Rock (not Grunge), House (not Hardcore), and a lot of well-polished Pop.
The artists that rarely if ever disappoint me are:
AC/DC
The Angels
Pet Shop Boys
Nick Skitz (Australian DJ, mixes and remixes a LOT of House-style dance music)
The Corrs
ABBA
Honourable mentions to:
The Jets
The Cat Empire
Little Richard
Bananarama
Kiss
Rogue Traders
Tom Jones (his later music, starting with _The Lead And How To Swing It_)
Blondie
Plus, virtually any Baroque Classical Music (most especially Handel).
Looks like I'm one of few who is into techno (mainly House).
Laurent Garnier, Darren Emerson, Satoshi Tomiie, ...
... also, when I was younger, I was huge fan of Kyuss and Tool, also - liked Hendrix, Tricky, still like Radiohead, ...

You're not the only one Molans...I've got tons and tons of mix cds taking up room although my main dance tastes lie towards Orbital, Underworld, Aphex Twin, Luke Slater, Two Lone Swordsmen, and Andy Weatherall's old outfit Sabres Of Paradise. They did a tune called Smoke Belch II which is absolutely amazing - was the soundtrack to many many good nights....
hmmm...the first 3 I can think of:
Assemblage 23
Breaking Benjamin
Linkin' Park
But there are oh, so many more! Music is the heart of life!

Robot Destroy (come on, Killah, at least make it a link!)
Regina Spektor

Linkin Park

The Beatles

August 8 2006 12:30 PM EDT
linkin park is good, but I like linkin park/jay z more
the remix album and the one with Jay Z were the worst thing Linkin Park could have done, oh what a way to ruin a great career.

August 9 2006 10:49 AM EDT
no way... numb encore is good
You would say that being into rap and all.
Those of us with taste believe otherwise ;P
linkin park deserve to be run over with the tank that should have killed lionel richie.
Jay Z is a meh, he was never quoted as saying "we're just another punk band" in RS...They can't rap, know nothing about hip hop, and suck as musicians to boot.

no way... fort minor is the rapper from linkin park. "remember the name" got to be the NBA song
