Auction issue: worthless items (in General)

AdminShade September 6 2006 5:31 PM EDT

For the past few weeks I have been annoyed to some extent by useless and worthless items being put into the auctioning service.

I thought there was a minimum worth put on items to be auctioned or has that long been forgotten?

In my opinion, if this minimum worth is still present, it should be raised to avoid people from auctioning daggers, whips, maces and the like.

Auctions > Rare Items

If people want to pay to put garbage into the auction system, what is the problem with letting them? Are we in danger of hitting the maximum number of items the auctioneer can manage?

I've got to agree with bast.

There's menu options other than Auctions > Rare Items?????

I don't like the formatting of Auctions > Rare Items, so I know how you feel Shade. I've often been annoyed by the small useless items taking up space in the auctions.

But really... if a new player thinks he can make money by selling a DCM in auctions, there's no real reason why we should stop him. Just another one of CB's stupidity taxes...

I would really rather have a 'See All Auctions' link directly from the little javascript thing. It is kinda annyoing to have to click auctions then click search just to see everything. Why? Just because I want to buy a lesser tattoo of endurance and because it would be easy to put in methinks.

Great idea!

True, Auctions > Rare items solves the problem of not having to see those items.

But it doesn't change the fact that the initial setup was to have some of those items not being able to be auctioned.

And as some people said, it just doesn't look right.

The items have to be greater than 5k NW. But that doesn't mean much.

Flamey September 10 2006 12:53 AM EDT

is that why base daggers are in there? with a NW of $25?

on the base daggers issue, people are selling them for ridiculous amounts.

before one change, the june '06 finding base weapons was hard, but now it is ridiculous you can find base daggers like arrows and bolts, and people think its rare, its stupid, there are like 15 daggers in auctions, that is spamming, i don't mind filtering through the crap with my eyes, but this is a tad too much, imo.

AdminShade September 10 2006 7:50 AM EDT

Mitt you are wrong: the items must have a worth of at least 5k, which can be either 5k NW or $5,000 worth when being auctioned somehow.

So at this moment, ANY item can be auctioned, no matter how worthless.

I'm with Bast on this one. Maybe add a filter like the one rentals uses, but it seems unreasonably draconian and unnecessary to put a hard limit on it.

Things like base daggers going for ridiculous premiums is a fun and interesting emergent behavior.

Stephen September 10 2006 11:53 PM EDT

"is a fun and interesting emergent behavior"

You need to get out more ;)

AdminShade September 11 2006 1:24 AM EDT

Frod, the filter should be updated then, and brought in such a way as the normal list imo then.

If that can be accomplished, no more issues with me :)
