Did you know? (in Off-topic)

That the compound bow was only invented in the 1960's? Which means the atom bomb and the Uzi are both older weapons. (Go and Google compound bow for the full history, there are plenty of sites....)

Now, go back to the what do you want for changemonth thread:

"PirateKing, September 3 2006 3:45 AM EDT
What I want is... ahem...

Firearms and Explosives.

hey now... it would not be a "whaddya want thread" if I did not spout my "firearms and explosives" mantra. :P"

So if we can have a bow that in weapon terms is a modern weapon, how about some of those firearms and explosives? Especially as in terms of timescale, executioners swords and gunpowder were actually contemporaries, if not in location...

QBJohnnywas September 15 2006 8:05 AM EDT

Imagine an atomic bomb turning up for sale in the store.....

Flamey September 15 2006 8:13 AM EDT

1960's? thats early... what was the point, if we had guns already? lol

having some sort of rifle would be cool, not like a modern one, one from back aways, but probably wouldn't fit properly :P

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 8:25 AM EDT

FLINTLOCK!!!!

:D

Flintlocks would be cool!

Give them chances to miss, only useable in one ranged round, but nice damage! :D

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 15 2006 8:34 AM EDT

making such a statement, johnnywas, you need at least state where you found it.
Google is not a source to write down.

AdminShade September 15 2006 8:34 AM EDT

why not remove the compound bow then? :p

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 8:37 AM EDT

From Wikipedia;

"A compound bow is a modern bow that has pulleys or cams at the end of each limb through which the bow string passes. As the bow is pulled back (drawn) the pulleys or cams turn which, in turn, reduce the amount of force needed to completely draw the bow. They are little affected by changes of temperature and humidity and give superior accuracy, velocity, and distance in comparison to the traditional longbow. Unlike traditional bows that are usually made of wood or wood laminated with other materials, compound bows are usually made of aluminium and composite materials. They were first developed and patented by Holless Wilbur Allen in the USA in the 1960s and have become increasingly popular."

Brakke Bres [Ow man] September 15 2006 8:40 AM EDT

shade is right! if this is a lord of the rings based rpg, then a compound shouldnt be in it :) or rename the compound to An Orc bow :)

QBJohnnywas September 15 2006 8:43 AM EDT

If you really want references then http://www.archeryhistory.com/compounds/compounds.htm is a good site.

Plenty of peeps know how to 'Google', our very own competitions are proof of that. I'm writing a post in CB, not a paper on archery.

;)

Give us an Orc Bow for our next supporter weapon. Heavy, so cuts down on the number of multi strikes it does, but can propel an arrow through two minions at once! Balancing factor? If the minion in front of you on your own team gets in the way you eat them.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 9:35 AM EDT

You have to be an Orc to use an Orc Bow?

So all ELBow users (And other Elven gear) are all Elves? ;)

QBJohnnywas September 15 2006 9:39 AM EDT

No, it makes you behave like an Orc. You don't have to be one!

PirateKing September 15 2006 9:43 AM EDT

"No, it makes you behave like an Orc."

But I already behave like an orc. My neighbors can attest to that. Does this mean that an Orc bow would turn me into a gentleman? :P

QBJohnnywas September 15 2006 9:44 AM EDT

If it turns you into GentlemanLoser then you're in trouble!

QBPit Spawn [Abyssal Specters] September 15 2006 9:45 AM EDT

well pk, even if you do behave like an orc you can't be any worse than gl ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 10:23 AM EDT

:P

8 beers, snorted thorugh a straw, while wearing shorts dipping the little toe of your left foot into a pool of ice water, will turn you into GL. ;)

Anything else is rumour. ;)

BootyGod September 15 2006 10:43 AM EDT

Does a bendy straw do it? and what if the water is lukewarm?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 10:48 AM EDT

Bendy straws just add style! ;)

Luke warm water works, but takes longer....

QBJohnnywas September 15 2006 10:49 AM EDT

Luke Warm Water, the drippy cousin of the Skywalker twins

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 15 2006 11:31 AM EDT

You're not my father!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 15 2006 11:36 AM EDT

glad to see forums are alive and well...you gang of gibbering idiots.

Maelstrom September 15 2006 11:43 AM EDT

Lone Starr, I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former room-mate.

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] September 15 2006 2:46 PM EDT

Maybe the very first guns would work those small hand cannons or at most a musket. But accuracy was pretty low wasn't it ?

Frod September 15 2006 9:11 PM EDT

I propose a new meta-FORS:

Anything involving the word "realistic".

BootyGod September 16 2006 1:12 PM EDT

novice used the word gibbering and idiot in the same sentence. He must be of the same breed.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 16 2006 1:22 PM EDT

heck I'm the missing link between gibbering idiots and the common north 'merekin lummox

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] September 16 2006 5:25 PM EDT

This is off off topic but how about wooze in the stores for the forgers so they can make their own weapons. You may now question my sanity.(wooze is worked iron thats worse and dirtier than even the worst cast iron.)
