New Forging Idea (and SURPRISE! not about bonuses) (in General)
September 18 2006 11:08 AM EDT
Well I was thinking instead of some kind of bonus (though it would be nice) there may be another way to go for giving forgers some life.
Gems would be rare, of course. They would come in different varieties and are suitable for different kinds of forger induced enchantments/bonuses.
Some rough examples (I just giving a vague idea of what I am thinking) (they could be used for armor too, thereby giving mages some DD boost if thats what someone wants)
Sapphire used for weapon boosts, Rubies used for Stat boosts, emeralds used for minion protection boosts (endurance, prot, AC, tiny GA and RoBF effects).
Diamond would hold weapons effects. Leech, VB, splash, etc.etc.
Well, basically it would make forgers far more important. To get a gem to get an effect (especially a larger effect) you would have to forge it for quite awhile. I mean just to get a little would take hundreds and for even slightly large ones thousands of BA. This is to make it so forgers can focus on gems or weapons or armor.
I think it would add a whole new aspect to both forging, and fighting. It would, of course, take careful balancing to make it so this isn't just another tank boost. Also would need to be in varying levels, so that lower levels don't have to pay 5 mil just to get a ruby on their katana.
The above stuff is my idea ^^^^^^^ the below stuff is some ... interesting... ideas I had for it.
The funnest one is that non-rare weapons take gems better. So, essentially, you could put a massive amount of stuff on a sling, while only a good bit on compound, and probably only one for ELB. This would add a whole new dimension to choosing weapons. I mean, if your sling gets a 90% AC reduction, does it really matter if it only has 1 base, because it does the same damage to mage as to 300 AC walls.
Not exactly that but a rough idea of what I am saying.
Okay so maybe this isn't the most intelligent idea ever, but it something to think about for forgers. Though I get this probably won't be done (such a huge idea) I still think players should give it a chance.

<sarcasm>Ohh! Then we can have Runes, and they can have cool properties too! And wait, we can have runewords, with crazy bonuses. And wait! Lets have socketable items, so that we can limit the number of gems and runes in an item! </sarcasm>
borrowing ideas (from Diablo) isn't a bad idea as long as we make the idea / concept our own .. Make it CB .. not just another Diablo .. I like the idea behind it .. I argued for some time to get amulets .. look now we have them .. is rings next? Pants even? I think there are many additions to CB that would improve things ... the question is where to start :)

<off topic>wear chain mail leggings :p</off topic>
Why gems ? Got runes just expand thier usage, forger has to train rune spell to make them work. Just one spell to train though so they can still fight and you need to forge to get forge XP to grow it. Boy that would be a big change!

First of all, never played Diablo.
Second of all, it doesn't matter what it's called!
Runes, gems, purple, elephants. Just integrate it. You people are far too stuck into the details instead of the general design of it.
Just thinking of a way to expand the game, while giving the forgers something to do. If you hate it okay then. But don't be stupid about it at the very least.
If you can't handle the Flamage, then don't post in forums. Everyone has to deal with their posts getting flamed once in a while, its just a part of the game.
I was flaming?Thought I was adding value to what was already said.Well and my two cents also.
<off topic> Solomon Grundy want pants too!

You don't have a license to be a jerk.
And slash, it was Miandrital that was flaming.

Flaming has a point. Most of these pots lacked that. I can handle criticism but I cannot handle just plain meanness. Learn to be nice!
