CD problem (in Off-topic)

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 26 2006 2:00 PM EDT

Need to transfer a Word document to a CD so that I can print it elsewhere (I could e-mail or somesuch but this will help now for future loaded excel, access and powerpoint projects).

I have tried saving straight to the writable CD in my CD drive which at first gave me an error saying "You do not have permission from the administrator" now it just says "incorrect function", trying to copy the file just tells me there was an error in doing so. I can't think of any other information to give out but this needs to be handed in, in 15 hours time so reasonable urgency is required :)

Could be all sorts of things with the CD. I'd suggest you nip out to your nearest Tesco or even a large petrol station with a shop and buy yourself a memory stick. You can pick up a 128MB one for about a fiver and that's all you'll ever need if you're transferring files such as .ppt .doc or .xls.

I was going to today but went alcohol shopping then by the time I finished the essay it was too late, I'm doomed!
No wonder the laptop was only £399, doesn't like charging the battery, nor does the CD drive work, back it goes to the manufacturer and no CB again for up to 3 weeks :(

You need a separate program to burn music files (to make a music CD)to a CD in Windows, maybe its the same for this?

Have you tried copying the files over into the CD folder, right-clicking on them (they should be grayed out) and selecting burn files to CD?

they wont go into the folder in the first place, that is the problem, I can use game CD's and music CD's fine, it is just writing them, the spec says it has a burner so it shouldn't be that as a problem.

have you tried a free trial version of a second party burning rom company?

(nero, alcohol 120%, clonecd)

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 26 2006 3:13 PM EDT

I already have Nero on here so will try that, thanks for everyones help if none of the advice works, it is going back!

Nero gave me errors, the write completed but upon opening I had 6 blank pages rather than 2 pages with typing :(

Do you have the original file still? Have you checked it and saved it again with a different name and then tried to burn it?

Are the CDs you use from a decent brand?

Thanks Shade for successfully answering the question.

10k will be sent to G_Beee for choosing the obvious answer although it not being possible at the time. That will be tomorrows second port of call, the first being the hand in desk for my essay

AdminShade September 26 2006 3:59 PM EDT

wow, never actually thought that that was the problem.

Most likely your version was a bit corrupt and couldn't be burned from that version. It's a good thing we have a Save as ;)

TNX! ^_^

I thought that it was way too obscure to be that especially since I opened the original save to save it again :/
But it worked which I didn't expect so you got a prize!
