Name my items! Need theme for Morgoth! (in Contests)

Ok, you most likely know my main character with its Lord of the Rings based theme.
If not then a quick explanation:
I have a 2 minion character with a tank called Melkor, and an Enchanter named Ungoliant. A quick google about them will throw you into '
The Encyclopedia of Arda'
Now I have already some named items but I am planning on making a new character which only uses the Melkor / Morgoth theme.
So here comes the task at hand for you, design my theme, knowing that anything not related to Melkor / Morgoth or that period in time of Middle Earth will not make you win :)
My items:
A Trollskin Armor
An Elven/Shadow Cloak
A Pair of Elven Boots
A Pair of Elven Gloves
A Helm of Ecthelion
A Mage Shield
|
An Amulet of Might
A Morgul-Hammer
An Assassin's Crossbow |
Ammo will not be named since in my opinion it has no value for it.
Be inventive but try to stay true to 'factual information' (i.e. you have to name the MH after Grond and the HoE after the Iron Crown ;) )

Ah forgot about the prize money...
Hmmm, well depending on the 9 items, the winner would be awarded $100,000 I think.
If no single person has made an actual overall theme I like, I will be looking at single items, which will get a $10,000 per 'best' item I saw. :)
*note: nobody will recieve credit for naming the Morg or the Helm.

Jeez Shade. Your restrictions pretty much mean that the only choices are:
Grond
Iron Crown
Morgoth's Amulet
Morgoth's Crossbow
Morgoth's Armor
Morgoth's Cape
Morgoth's Boots
Morgoth's Gauntlets
Morgoth's Shield
OR....
Grond
Iron Crown
Amulet of Morgoth
Crossbow of Morgoth
Armor of Morgoth
Cape of Morgoth
Boots of Morgoth
Gauntlets of Morgoth
Shield of Morgoth
Or any mix 'n match of the two groups. :P

you can do much more than that...

There are only so many combinations of "dark", "evil", and "gloom" you know. :P

perhaps look around on the arda website, then you get to know some items and some familiarities. ;)

AoM = Silmaril on a String.
I'll include this in the theme later when I take a better look at this, but it sprung to my mind when I saw this thread.
A couple of items to start;
HoE : Morgoth's Iron Crown / Morgoth's Collar
TSA: Scales of Ancalagon / Ancalagon's Scales (This could be applied to other armours or other body parts used. Wings/Claws maybe)
MgS: Vapours from the Hells of Iron (Not sure I like it as a MgS...)

How do you get "collar" out of a crown, GL? :P
"The crown forged by Morgoth after his return to Middle-earth to hold the three Silmarils; he bore it throughout the First Age, but after his defeat by the Valar the crown was beaten into a collar for his neck."
A litte research goes a long way! :P
The Collar might be a nice name for the AoM, Crown would be better for HoE. ;)

That quote is not helping any, GL. Unless Shade wants to make a theme of Morgoth defeated. ;)

It wasn't really that Morgoth then was defeated, he was still alive even though he was bound by Angainor.
He broke free finally and was defeated far after that.
Using the Silmarils in a necklace would be a good idea indeed perhaps, or the ruined crown.

i'll give a crack at this.
you can re-arrange, mix n' match :P sorry if this is counted as stealing, GL :P
Pendant of (a) Silmaril - AoM
Shield of Telperion - MgS
Morgoth's Collar - HoE
(Shadow) Cape of the Dark Lord - EC/SC ( is this non-factual?)
Finwë's Enchanted Gauntlets - EG (same here?)
Boots/Greaves of Morgoth - EB
Imbued Armor of Darkness - TSA
Grond - MH
Cursed Dark Crossbow - Axbow
I don't know if Telperion was too good/pure for Morgoth to make a shield out of, so bear with me knowing basically nothing about this stuff. :P
and if i'm way off, tell me, i just spent more than half an hour reading that encyclopedia, which barely has anything on morgoth.
talk about being picky! :P
AdminShade
October 10 2006 7:58 AM EDT
Yes sure I'm picky, but it has quite a lot on Morgoth or Melkor (former name)
Telperion was one of the trees but at the question too good or not, I'd say use your imagination, it's related so it should be usable :)

Telperion was the silver tree, i was just wondering if it was too "pure" or anything.
so, we can use the name Melkor, as apart of the items? maybe its me but using two different names for the items is bit whacky :)

Morg - Grond, Hammer of the Underworld
HoE - Morgoth's Iron Crown
AoM - Narya, The Ring of Fire or Elendilmir, the Star of the North
AxBow - Belthronding
EGs - Claws of Glaurung or Claws of Ancalagon
TSA - Armor of Utumno or Armor of Angband
MS - A Scale of Ancalagon
E/SC - Web of Ungoliant or Draugluin's Pelt
Belthronding was the bow of Beleg Cuthalion
Glaurung was the father of all dragons.
Ancalagon was was the greatest of the winged dragons - Large enough to blot out the sun, bred to lead Morgoth's armies against the Valar. He is said to have the hottest breath, though not hot enough to destroy the One Ring.
Utumno was Morgoth's stronghold until it was destroyed by the Valar in the war during the Years of the Trees.
Angband was Morgoth's second stronghold, constructed after Utumno was laid waste.
Draugluin was the sire of the werewolves, sire to Carcharoth, which devoured Beren's hand and the silmaril in it.

EGs: Beren-skin Gloves
EC: Beren's Hide
EBs: Beren-skin Shoes
AoM: One Strung Silmaril
Morg: Grond, Hammer of the Underworld
HoE: Morgoth's Iron Crown
TSA: Scale Mail of Glaurang

Well if I could remember his girlfriend that he was risking his life for's name (she was a princess or something, no? Been a while since I read the Silmarillion) then I would've mixed up the armor names a little. *grins*

BBQ, you're thinking of Luthien Tinuviel. And it was more of like a "forbidden romance." And Beren was a man while Luthien was an princess of the Sindar (grey elves).
I love the histories of middle earth more than the series :)
Morg-H: Morgoth's big toy. :D

October 18 2006 9:23 PM EDT
Alternates (thanks Mitt!):
Tear-stained Tinuviel Hide
Tinuvielite Gloves
Luthien's Dainty Feet
Maelstrom
October 18 2006 10:21 PM EDT
Axbow: Morgoth's Trebuchet of Withering (/debilitation/enfeeblement...)

Has anyone thought about Angainor, which is the chain that held Morgoth imprisoned?
Or has anyone thought about the fact that in his battle with the high king of the Noldor, Fingolfin, that he wounded Morgoth?

I have seen some quite interesting items though I'm not yet satisfied on the boots and gloves thing.
Will let this run a little while longer.
elven boots.....path of the straight way. or straight roads way
Beren's Left hand -EG
Fingolfin's Bitter Bane -Elven boots
Smoldering scales of Smaug (MS)
Hammer Of the Underworld (mh)
Gondolin's Grief (Axbow)
Beren lost his hand to get back the silmaril
Fingolfin managed to strike morgoth in the foot, but was crushed by the same feet and died.
The rest are self explanatory
A Trollskin Armor Angainor, the chain of Melkor
An Elven/Shadow Cloak The fear of Valar, The Fear of Morgoth
A Pair of Elven Boots Morgoth's Limp, Fingolfin's Mighty Wound
A Pair of Elven Gloves Morgoth's Tainted Touch
A Mage Shield Morgoth's Perversion of Darkness
An Amulet of Might Nauglamír
A Morgul-Hammer Grond, the Hammer of the Underworld (heheh of course)
An Assassin's Crossbow Ressentiment in Darkness, Ungoliant's Poison
Nauglamír: Thingol prized it above everything else in his treasury, save the Silmaril of Lúthien and Beren. After the Nauglamír had been forged he asked the Dwarves of Nogrod to set the Silmaril in it, which they did. Together it became jewelry more beautiful than anything ever before seen in Arda.
If you have any other questions about the names just let me know and I will bring up some of the history guiding my choices.
AdminShade
October 27 2006 5:40 AM EDT
Ok I have made some choices so far:
Angainor 'The Chain of Melkor'
Boots of the Valaquenta
Gloves of the Valaraukar
Morgoths Iron Crown
The Scale of Glaurung
The Quenta Silmarillion
Grond Hammer of the Underworld
This leaves only the Cloak and Ranged Weapon to be named.
GentlemanLoser had the idea of using Angainor as the Trollskin Armor so he gets $10k
Mitt had the idea of a Scale for the Mage Shield, though I found Glaurung more appropriate to use, though he gets $10k also
Mitt also had an idea of the greaves of Gothmog, though I thought the Demons of Power would be a better and more general concept, he receives $10k for this idea nonetheless.
Many people thought about the Amulet of Might being a Silmaril, but I thought that the Tale of the Silmarils would be better, nobody wins this prize.
Also nobody had thought about the tale of the powers, in which each of the Valar is named and described, together with the more important of the Maiar.
AdminShade
October 27 2006 5:41 AM EDT
Correction, that had to be Draco who won the $10k for the TSA name...
GentlemanLoser however also receives $10k because he also thought about a Scale of a dragon.
