Hello (in General)

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- December 7 2006 8:09 PM EST

My name is Jayssin, I just started and I would introduce myself in chat but mine doesn't seem to be working too great. It freezes, then floods with text 5 minutes later. Oh well it might just be the computer, I'll try later on one of my other ones.

First off, about me; I'm 18, almost 19, I play for the professional gaming team ToT (http://www.gosus.com). I found this website off the dropdown menu at a local internet cafe, checked it out, then signed up (just now) when I got home. I listen to many genres of music, my favorites being industrial, techno/electronica, and the many forms of metal. I'm into anime (not many american ones though) I will be starting school pretty soon with the goal of becoming a lawyer for a video game company.

Moving onto some things I'm not so sure about. BA... I've been reading the help, and I must have missed it, but how often do you get BA? what does BA stand for? I notice it drops every time I fight, so I'm assuming it's ends, and needs to be replenished?

I renamed the guy I started with, and it shows the new name on the training page, but when I fight it uses the previous name. It also shows the previous name on the dropdown menu on the left. I've refreshed and nothing. :( (possibly a browser problem, the heap I'm on atm doesn't even have FF)

This is CB2, where is CB1, what's the difference between the 2?

Feel free to send me messages if you're online, I need some help with strategy, I've been looking at the top guys for ideas, but I need some opinions. Not in chat though, like I said it's not working.

Welcome, the Help link in the upper left hand corner has most of the answers you seek...

CB1 was axed in favor of CB2, which is better, in almost every way. But seriously, CB1 was the last incarnation of CB that was unable to be upgraded any further, so we have CB2. And it just kinda stuck like that. You'll probably hear a lot more about CB1 from fanatics that were here "back in the day" who say CB1 was so much better, but they are all pretty much LUNATICS as CB2 is virtually the same as CB1 in many ways. To see the major differences between CB1 and CB2 go to "HELP > MISC > Differences From CB1" to see them listed.

BA is battle allocation, which is basically how you fight here. When you fight it uses one BA, your BA regenerates every 10 minutes. The BA is a way of limiting people from clicking fight over and over again and breaking the CB server. Otherwise you'd have 300+ people clicking fight all at the same time and it would break. So as soon as your current BA runs out, wait around for a couple minutes and you'll get more BA.

You are weird BTW, a video game lawyer? Weird! Anyways I'm one of the locals, who also happens to be a programmer and resident weird guy who talks a lot.

If you are using Firefox, then check out "HELP > USER CONTRIBUTIONS > External CB Tools and Resources" And you can see the spiffy little script I wrote to help with CB playing, and stuff.

Thanks Veriflex, :D not a "video game lawyer", but a lawyer for a video game company. So basically a lawyer for Sony, Microsoft, Blizzard etc. I'm getting my BA in business economics, if that helps?

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- December 7 2006 8:28 PM EST

opps, Verifex :P and if anyone is curious maddox is an online writer who rocks the socks off of many topics.

QBOddBird December 7 2006 8:38 PM EST

In reference to your namesake, Maddox: Actually, he's a rather popular self-centered egotistical jerk, but I guess if you like him... ^_^

An often overlooked feature of the 'Help' is the glossary, Maddox, it'll explain what BA, or Battle Allocation, is and will provide a link to its Help entry.

I wont deny, but he has some rather comical reads that are well written and entertaining to read. :)

Hi,

Templar of Twilight, eh? Do they still have a BW branch? Been so long since I've played, what game do you play?

O, and welcome.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- December 7 2006 8:58 PM EST

Yes, there is a BW branch. ToT is home of many very known gamers for BW, WC3, and DoW. I don't pretend to know much about DoW having barely played it, but Having 6 year of BW and a WGT season win under my belt, I feel confident in saying our broodwar branch is up to par.

I think the website is down, :S I can't get on it atm, I was going to copy/paste our divisions. I'll do it later, but we are home to Testie, Mondragon, and a few other pretty known BW players...

I play WC3. I'll post all that info when the site comes up :P easier to copy paste imo.

WGT winner? Wow.

"I just started and I would introduce myself in chat but mine doesn't seem to be working too great. It freezes, then floods with text 5 minutes later."

Could it be because you were afk for a while and then came back to CB and started typing in chat? Chat goes into AFK mode after a certain amount of time, and it only refreshes chat like every minute or so.

Welcome! Lawyer eh?Well maybe you can knock some of these scoff laws into shape, especially that Shade.Just kidding he's the sheriff.Hope you enjoy my and others favourite game.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- December 8 2006 3:09 AM EST

:D It was not afk mode, it would freeze every 20 seconds or so and pingout. I'm on my other computer now and it's working correctly :D

The website is still down though, not sure what that is about. As for the WGT (World Gaming Tour) win, yes; and although that possibly means nothing to you, to some it's an accomplishment and to others its a goal. If you've ever played a game competitively, it's nice to win something large scale (such as WGT)

Brakke Bres [Ow man] December 8 2006 5:52 AM EST

first the stupid questions that need to be answered.
Do you have the latest java installed?
What browser you using? (not all are supported)
Have you checked the FaQ?
Something wrong with your internet connection? (as you are getting ping time outs)

Mostly chat problems are client based and not server based.

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- December 8 2006 12:23 PM EST

I'm sure it's something to do with that heap of a computer, I'm not worried about it, as I have many computers at my disposal :S
