New Logo? (in General)

Alright, here's my stab at a new logo for CB. I did talk to Jonathan, and he mentioned that he only liked Mr. Swirly the most because it was better than all other CB logos ever attempted. Hopefully this will cut that trend, but let's see what you all think first. Of course, Jonathan will be the final one to decide on this.

I actually think this is pretty cool! Simple and classy :)
I never was a fan of swirly anyways.
i like the upper half better then the bottom it stands out more in white

Really? I actually liked the bottom one more =D

Score! Jonathan likes the new logo, though he thinks the "sword" *cough*dagger*cough is too large. Hmmm...
you mean the scimitar right?
QBPixel Sage
December 27 2006 11:46 PM EST
Fine. Jonathan thinks the dragon thingamabobber is too big.
The swordy thing would look better if "it" looked real.Maybe impaling the B? Or the tail of the E ?One of those swords from that contest you held??

I like the bottom one best, m'self.
Fantastic new logo there, PS. I love it! =D

A realistic sword would turn this into an absolute... "non-logo". So it definitely wouldn't look better. Sorry, a realistic "dragon thingamabobber".
There's no point in having a white sunflare on the top one if it's got a white background.
I like the top one. The black outline makes it look better. Maybe if the bottom one had a white outline...

Updated! Merged the dragon thing with the B. They are now one!

Much better. The white still looks better to me, in my opinion.

Wow Pixel Sage nice logo much better than swirly. =)

I like both. :)

I like it but would also like a little swirly in one of the corners.
We can't get rid of Mr Swirly, can we..? He's as much a part of CB (dare I say it) as Jonathan is ;)
CB = Swirly = CB
Maybe make Mr Swirly an 'a'? ;)

I think with the dragon you give too much of an asian look to the dagger, instead why not have it a more lotr or medieval look?

Fantastic! Merging the dragon into the "B" is a "slice" of genius. Get it? Slice! I think it's perfect as is, preferring the black background...
Ah, the beauty of "design by committee"......
I also felt the need to remark that the face of Mr. Swirly always reminded me of that wirefram from Strongbad when he makes video games (Your head a-splode!)
Nice logo there, I like the black one :)
You should try to put Swirly in it, but I have no idea how ;)
what's with the blobish thing after the last R?

December 28 2006 10:54 AM EST
I can't see anything after the last R. :S
Yes that blob at the end takes away from it .Like the new logo but please don 't kill swirly. If you want you could take Jons face and rivet a grill over the mouth. When he was Darth mal would be a good one.
We can't lose Swirly! Edit the logo in on the right side below his face in the swirl zone.
I think that blob is a Tulwar in all it's glory...all hail the Tulwar...

First off, Mr. Blob balances the logo. I'll let the image do the explaining:

Secondly, I dislike Mr. Swirly with a passion. I vote against integrating it into the logo (not that there really is any good place to integrate it anyways). I propose an alternative, and that is, put Swirly somewhere else on the page (as an easter egg (figuratively speaking)). Thoughts?

December 28 2006 3:37 PM EST
Could you integrate the blob into the r somewhat? I agree you need some balance but the blob sticks out a little too much.
QBsutekh137
December 28 2006 3:43 PM EST
I know the comments from the peanut gallery are probably getting out of hand, but believe it or not, I like the "unbalanced" logo, as it draws attention to the C and B, the B having the wonderful dragon in it. I would agree that balance is important for something that might be on a T-shirt or tangible product, but the CB logo is more like a title, something that will be in the upper left pf a page... Maybe drawing attention to the "C" and "B" makes more sense for this thing we call "CB". *smile*
I agree, let swirly die...the newness is just as important to me as the wonderful design. I can't even tell you how impressed I am, Pixel -- great work!
QBPixel Sage
December 28 2006 3:43 PM EST
Well, it sticks out just as much as the C does, no? But anyways, I'll do some experimenting, see if there are any other solutions to go with it.

Not only a master craftsman, but able to take suggestions well -- that really is special and impressive, Pix, I hope you know that! *smile*

December 28 2006 4:53 PM EST
Man, I don't know what to do anymore. Some people want swirly, others don't care. Some people want to nerf the "blob", but that throws off the balance (and I think too much).
*rips out hair*
connect the C and the Blob with gaps for the letters and scimitar...since that's what it looks like it's supposed to be already...
let the poor swirly die...we've laughed at him enough already...

December 28 2006 5:39 PM EST
Connect the C and Blob? Genius!

Thoughts? Opinions? Underline is looking pretty snazzy, thanks novice!

Oh man, now with that, should the dragon be shooting a little FIREBALL!? Orange on the black background? It might offest the weight on the bottom with action on the top?
I'm not a designer? Oh yeah, I'm not! That's why any "logo" I have ever made ends up being a montage of all that exists in space and time.
QBPixel Sage
December 28 2006 6:05 PM EST
You know, the fireball really isn't a bad idea, but there's a few things we may want to consider. First is the complexity of the logo... or rather, the lack of. Logos should never get too complicated. I'm already almost over the edge with the underline and weapon.
Miandrital
December 28 2006 6:08 PM EST
I love the black background logo now, simple and menacing :). BTW, could you throw the little white spot from the first image back on to the dragon's head?
no lens flare, it'll look weak on the shirts...
QBPixel Sage
December 28 2006 6:12 PM EST
The bling? Like this?
QBPixel Sage
December 28 2006 6:12 PM EST
Oh and yes, no on T-shirts. I say we can get rid of the glare.
AC 478
December 28 2006 6:23 PM EST
Maybe that should be a 2 at the end of the R ?
Miandrital
December 28 2006 6:31 PM EST
I like the little glare, maybe it would be even better at the point of the dagger. Wont look good on the t-shirts but I think it gives the logo some more pizzaz.
QBPixel Sage
December 28 2006 6:41 PM EST
I don't know about others, but I don't like all this CB1/CB2 differentiation. Do you know what I call it? I call it CB.
The glare can definitely stay depending on where it is applied, such as a webpage. However, the glare wouldn't work too well at the top of the blade, since it throws of where the light source is coming from.

That is just superb, Pixel! Really, speaking as a person who does design for a living, I think it's really top notch!
My one piece of advice, also speaking from the experience of being subjected to "design by commitee" on a regular basis, is to put your foot down and declare it finished! If you and Jon are happy, then it's time to stop. If you keep tweaking it to fix every suggestion, there is a good chance you'll end up settling for something fugly that you didn't intend...
The one you submitted at 5:59 PM, the black one on top with the underline motif,, is perfect, just beautiful! Stop there, I'm begging you - you'll never please everyone, and you'll run into the danger of messing it up just trying to!
Excellent job, Pixel, really excellent!!!
:D

I agree. The one from 5:59 is your best work and you should stop there. I <3 it.

I like 6:12 more :P

December 28 2006 11:21 PM EST
Why replace the original? I say use both!
"Man, I don't know what to do anymore. Some people want swirly, others don't care. Some people want to nerf the "blob", but that throws off the balance (and I think too much). "
Go with what YOU like, and ignore everyone else. You're the designer..... design.
...Why is there a jagged outline in the revised versions? The smooth outline looked better in my opinion.
Trying to end this issue of the blob? Compromise.
Cut out most the curve behind the r and connect the underline to the r with a slender line similar to that width in the C or B. At a nice straight angle with a thin line between the two thicker ends would look good on it's own, but don't know how to feel when added to the greater picture so let the courts decide on that. If they can!
Because I feel the underline for symmetry is needed the same as you.
While I'm at it would like to voice on how the lettering aside from the large C & B is "big boned", lackluster, and unappealing.
I feel that there really is too much of an Asian theme for a game based mostly around Lord of the Rings and other such fantasy works.
It is a great looking logo, don't get me wrong but I just feel it doesn't give the right impression for the game. If we are to have a logo that doesn't give a lot of insight to the game I say stay with swirly, I much prefer it myself.
QBPixel Sage
December 29 2006 12:41 PM EST
The blob has long been compromised ;). I've only heard two people complain about the "Asian theme", so I don't think I'll be doing much about that. Heck, I'm Asian, and I don't even feel the Asian-ness in the logo. I'll run the 6:12 by Jonathan and see what he thinks!
i like it, almost pirate like

December 29 2006 12:48 PM EST
Why thank you! Now I feel like modeling a pirate ship with this logo on its sails.

December 29 2006 12:52 PM EST
Omg, did Pixel do it? Did he?
Did he create the ultimate pirate/ ninja logo!?!?
QBPixel Sage
December 29 2006 2:52 PM EST
Bah! Jonathan likes the very first logo! But it's all imbalanced and...

It's okay Pixel. Try it out. Then ask new players opinion and ours. Once it's on the site we can see if it actually -needs- to be changed.

I asked bartjan if it would be a good idea to put up a poll. Jon definitely makes the final decision, but if the community likes the other better, it may sway Jon's opinion on the final logo.
