Top 10 Exemption Suggestion (in General)

Relic January 29 2007 11:05 PM EST

I would like to add a bit of a challenge to the top players by making each Team Minion Configuration each have their own Top 10 players list that receives the exemption.

Single Minion Characters
Double Minion Characters
Triple Minion Characters
Quadruple Minion Characters

I believe that this will create more reason to compete at the top and so as not to feel the need to eventually become a 4 minion Team to reach the top 10, it would be a great incentive to strive to beat out the competition in regard to your own Minion Configuration.

Flame away...

TheHatchetman January 29 2007 11:10 PM EST

Top five exemption that way... tho, even having 20 chars without worry of a negative challenge bonus seems a bit much. All in all, seems like a good idea. (<<<not sarcasm)

/me was gonna make a joke about certain sports being dominated by a select few, but decided against it...

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 29 2007 11:35 PM EST

i have often thought that only ten getting the bonus was too limiting. i had thought that maybe it should be expanded to the top fifty. i do like your way much better though. it seems like a solid and great idea.

AdminNightStrike January 30 2007 3:20 AM EST

or you could remove the exemption......

IndependenZ January 30 2007 4:53 AM EST

The exemption is there for a good reason, you know..

I agree with Glory though, it would be cool to have say four times five characters (for every number of minions) who'd be in the exemption. I'd certainly make sure I fight enough to get there, so I guess it's good for the competitiveness :D

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 30 2007 9:48 AM EST

What's the good reason Inde?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 30 2007 9:56 AM EST

the other option floating around in my head for some time now is to have it where the top ten get the exemption as now, but only when fighting other members of this exclusive club. if any of them hit someone who is not in the top ten then they get the penalties.

QBJohnnywas January 30 2007 10:00 AM EST

Dudemus, that idea of yours wouldn't work that well. Most of that exclusive club are in the same three clans.

Then again maybe we could exclude those clans from the bonus as well? Just leave them to fight amongst themselves?

;)

Tezmac January 30 2007 10:19 AM EST

Oooh, I kind of like that one. You can either get the Top 10 lack of penalty or you can get your clan bonus, but not both.

IndependenZ January 30 2007 10:32 AM EST

lol Tezmac :D

I meant of course the fact that the top 10 can't stay the top 10 without the exemption. We would have a new top 10 every week, or maybe sooner.. people up there get less rewards from fighting down. Therefor, other lower people will catch up and become the new top 10. And so on, and so on, and so on, and so on..

That's a pretty good reason, I think. Why burn as much BA as you can, when you'll be 'punished' when you reach the top ranks?

bartjan January 30 2007 10:36 AM EST

Give 11 through 20 half the exemption...

Tezmac January 30 2007 10:36 AM EST

All I know is that I'm on the cusp of being in the top 10 on a daily basis. It is more worth it for me to waste a bunch of BA losing and eventually winning against higher opponents in order to raise my score to get in then it is to just up my clan bonus. Those people that get both 24x7 will just continue to pull away from the rest of us.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 30 2007 11:03 AM EST

Exactly. ;)

Give me one good reason for the Top Ten exemption...

Vicious Cat January 30 2007 6:13 PM EST

"Burn the Top Ten!!"

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 30 2007 6:51 PM EST

VC, I originally saw that as "Burn the Top Tent"! ;)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 30 2007 6:59 PM EST

without the top 10 exemption, the top is impossible to hold...

You'd have a really really hard time balancing beating everyone, and
still fighting slim and trim enough to get any kind of sane rewards.

The people currently in the top 10 would be easy to pass, as most targets are at more than -15%.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 30 2007 7:02 PM EST

And with the Top Ten exemption, it's near impossible for anyone out of it to gain a place in the Top Ten without one of them stopping playing...

As number 11 gets the worst rewards of anyone in the game.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 30 2007 7:03 PM EST

Also Nov, wouldn't that encourage the Top Ten to have to fight each other, instead of all/most being in the same couple of clans, and therefore unable to fight each other?

QBOddBird January 30 2007 7:10 PM EST

Personally....and this is just from my point of view, 'cuz I've never been there fighting to maintain my spot in the top 10, but...

I think it'd be interesting to see a fluid top 10 instead of a static few players holding the spots.

=X

Relic January 30 2007 8:54 PM EST

There are roughly 400 active players at any given time. If you took 10 from each of the minion groupings, that gives you 40 people. I believe the top 10% is a reasonable number of people who should be rewarded for their efforts...

Mikel [Bring it] January 30 2007 10:38 PM EST

the top 5 of each minion type should be good enough. That would give people an incentive to run the type of strat that they are most comfortable with, instead of forcing everyone in the top 10 to be teams of 4.

Tezmac January 30 2007 10:44 PM EST

"As number 11 gets the worst rewards of anyone in the game."
Tell me about it...

TheHatchetman January 31 2007 12:02 AM EST

"instead of forcing everyone in the top 10 to be teams of 4."

Wasp January 31 2007 1:46 AM EST

I think its a great idea. A fluid top x of each team config will get more competition going on smaller levels which would add more variety to the game. : )

TheHatchetman January 31 2007 1:49 AM EST

Give the individual realms a splash of top-exemptness, maybe? top 5 for Lorien are sage, top 2 in Rivendell, and number 1 in the Shire?

Just thought I'd toss that in there, even if to be flamed away :)

Adminedyit [Superheros] January 31 2007 5:45 AM EST

"And with the Top Ten exemption, it's near impossible for anyone out of it to gain a place in the Top Ten without one of them stopping playing... "

not true. i managed to break into the top 10 with my NCB Vlad Tepes and was holding a steady spot for a while. now someone a lot smaller has found a way to beat me and drag my score down out of it. there is actually quite a bit of change in the top 10 besides the big 3 on this game (PM, jayuu, poison).

and as for rewards, i really can't tell a difference when i get the negative/positive challenge bonus due to the random factor in rewards.

my highest and lowest challenge bonuses:
Challenge bonus 3% XP (per minion) 42
Challenge bonus -8% XP (per minion) 39

not really much of a difference there at all.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 31 2007 7:55 AM EST

If there's not much difference, then there should be no problem removing it then. ;)

Tezmac January 31 2007 11:19 AM EST

There is definitely a large difference. So much so that I won't buy my BA unless I'm in the top 10.

QBsutekh137 January 31 2007 12:04 PM EST

Tez, do what I do and double-tap a higher up, refresh your stats, then wait ten minutes. The minuses will be gone and you can burn your BA...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 31 2007 1:05 PM EST

Another good reason to get rid of it. ;)
