Junction: 1/5th familiar level? (in General)

QBsutekh137 February 7 2007 10:30 AM EST

Here is my Junction: Junction: 457,036 (0.96)

Here is my familiar: Wit and Wisdom of Brad Voss lvl 2,286,727

1/5th the familiar level is 2286727/5 = 457345

Junction level divided by necessary level = 457036/457345 = 0.999324

Rounding that to the nearest hundredth would make my level 1.00, not the 0.96 that is displaying. I probably missed a discussion and am missing something here, can anyone help me out?

Naming bonus. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 7 2007 10:46 AM EST

Here is my Junction: Junction: 457,036 (0.96)

Wit and Wisdom of Brad Voss lvl 2,286,727 * 1.04 = 2,378,196

1/5th the familiar level is 2378196/5 = 475639

Junction level divided by necessary level = 4457036/475639 = 0.93706277

Well, that still doesn't jive with the 0.96 completely, but I'll buy it! Thanks, GL!

Anything capped by your Max tattoo level? :/

QBsutekh137 February 7 2007 11:49 AM EST

Heh, my max tattoo level is north of 4 million, no limitation there! *smile*

Not sure where the math is wrong in the .93 you got GL, but I did the math using the 1.04, and the 0.96 is exactly right. I need to really jack up my Junction to get the 1.00, about another 20K

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 7 2007 6:32 PM EST

Rounding. ;)

It should have been;

1/5th the familiar level is 2378196/5 = 475639.2

Leaving 0.2 off threw the rest out. ;)

Named tattoos are not level * 1.04. They are experience training to the tattoo * 1.04.

AdminNightStrike February 9 2007 1:31 AM EST

"experience trained into"

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 9 2007 3:08 AM EST

Even still, it works out perfectly using Level. ;)

No NS,

Naming a tattoo makes it function as a tattoo of 1.04 times its level.

It gains xp as an unnamed tattoo. That is an unnamed and named tattoo grow at the same rate. In battle the named tattoo is functioning at a higher level, 4% higher.

AdminNightStrike February 9 2007 7:51 AM EST

No, naming a tattoo adds 4% to the experience trained into the tattoo. I wen tthrouh a long proof of this not too long ago, when I was confused as to certain battle results. The easiest way to prove it is using a DD familiar and calculating your DD level based on AMF backlash. You can then compare that to your HP, found by adding up all the damage received and using your final HP stats.

Somewhere, there's a post from Jon where he says specifically that (paraphrased) a 4% increase in experience for a tattoo equates reasonably well to a 4% increase in level. Keep in mind that since then, tattoo leveling has changed regarding the approximation curve because training tattoos was hitting the server too hard.

Then please explain why TOAs that are named give the appropriate Str and Dex of a tattoo 104% of its shown level.

Here is where someone quotes the old naming page that explained how naming a tattoo works:

http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=001RnH

"Naming tattoos results in a 4% increase of their "experience," which approximates reasonably well as a 4% increase in level."

Here is where Jon explained how it works out of the original tattoo naming thread: http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=001E3Q

[Jon is quoting] "And regarding the XP, just imagine that the named tattoo is now on crazy xp time."

[Jon's response to that] "Not at all. It doesn't gain xp any faster; it just acts as though it has 4% more than it really does at any given time."

Keep in mind that things changed slightly with the curve-fit approximation.

That link is all the work I did when deciphering how item naming works. Further, my conjecture about how tattoos gain experience was proved correct by Jon in the "tattoo levelling changed" thread where he stats clearly that, just as I guessed, tattoo experience to level ratio is just as if all the experience were trained into a single stat.
