Play By Play (in General)

miteke [Superheros] March 8 2007 2:03 PM EST

I have a request.

Make it so that the server does not forget your 'Play-by-play' setting. I'm tired of having to reset it to 'On non-win'. Could we move this option to the Settings section instead of (or in addition to) under the battle results?

bartjan March 8 2007 2:16 PM EST

Already taken care of with Verifex' GreaseMonkey script.

QBBarzooMonkey March 8 2007 3:51 PM EST

But for a variety of real and valid reasons, we can't all use that script. I second miteke's request!

:)

same here, i would like it, not a huge deal, but i would like it if i didnt have to change it every time i log on

AdminQBVerifex March 8 2007 4:49 PM EST

I usually have my script set to OnLose, and what it effectively does is it always sets it to whatever I say, regardless of what the server has set. The confusing part of this obviously is that then using the "fight page" play by play suddenly becomes temporary and setting it on the fight page only changes the setting until you refresh the CB sidebar and my script re-sets it to whatever you have set.

I agree with this request too. Has CB1/2 never remembered the settings?

bartjan March 8 2007 5:36 PM EST

In the early days, there only was 'on'. In a way you could call that 'remembering'. 'Off' was introduced, and made the default, in order to reduce the amount of bandwidth consumed by CB.

Does having it in the off position speed up your ability to fight?

AdminNightStrike March 8 2007 5:44 PM EST

If you're on a slow computer or have a slow connection (dial-up), then yes.

QBOddBird March 8 2007 10:49 PM EST

I suggested this once a long time ago and got flamed to bits for suggesting a 'lazy link', but when I just forged all my BA and I've got 1 left and I wanna see how a fight against *insert opponent name here* goes, I'd like to actually be able to click "PbP On" and then go fight, rather than wasting a BA changing the setting first.

So I guess, fourth'd.

"Does having it in the off position speed up your ability to fight?"

Like NS said, if you're on dial-up, then yes. Basically its not loading all that extra text that is the battle, so its less to load, so it should be faster, if you have a super dooper connection, it probably wont matter, but I believe it makes a difference on dial-up (personal experience).

I use Fex's script, so this doesn't bother me, but why not.

miteke [Superheros] March 9 2007 9:42 AM EST

Where do you guys find these scripts and how do you use them?

QBOddBird March 9 2007 9:44 AM EST

Right, but what for those of us who cannot use the script? LIKE ME? *growls*

bartjan March 9 2007 10:28 AM EST

Miteke, see this page.
Install that script when you have the GreaseMonkey Firefox add-on.

miteke [Superheros] March 9 2007 2:17 PM EST

I use Netscape, though I think it uses Firefox technology, right? Where do I get the GreaseMonkey thing and how do I then use the script?

bartjan March 9 2007 3:38 PM EST

Depends on which Netscape. Checkout addons.mozilla.org

G_d... that thing is awesome!

Just the automatic selection of opponents is so cool.

Thanks Verifex!

I got the error failure to create chrome directory :(
