DST... (in General)

Something tells me the server didn't get its patch applied. :O)

AdminJonathan March 13 2007 12:15 PM EDT

I'm not going to bother with this on the current machine.

QBRanger March 13 2007 12:16 PM EDT

Can you manually just move the time ahead 1 hour to put it back in sync with what everyone was basing stuff on?

bartjan March 13 2007 12:23 PM EDT

Both the OS and the database obtain their time from the same source, the system time. This time is in UTC. "moving time ahead 1 hour" would fix it for the OS, but also would put the database's idea of time out of sync.
Besides that, it's also a difficult thing to do, as the system's time is synced by NTP (Network Time Protocol) which keeps the time within milliseconds of the official standard. If you change the system's clock via another way, then NTP simply changes it back to what it is supposed to be.

Still having the server on EST is nice, as Europe also hasn't switched to daylight saving, so we Europeans can keep our regular schedule :)

QBRanger March 13 2007 12:29 PM EDT

Thanks,

I had no idea it was so complicated.

AdminG Beee March 13 2007 12:45 PM EDT

Can't you just move the big hand round a bit ?

AdminLamuness March 13 2007 12:45 PM EDT

Ah would you look at that? Bonus XP time is still here after 1 hour it was supposed to end. :) This will be easy to forget. *Makes mental note*

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] March 13 2007 1:02 PM EDT

Lamu, it started an hour late.

And it is already messed up because the server time is incorrect, but the forum and fight times ARE correct.

QBsutekh137 March 13 2007 1:07 PM EDT

Won't this all resolve in two weeks when the server goes into DST under the old rules?

Example: I have an atomic clock that apparently doesn't take it's "summer" flag from the radio signal -- it just takes the time and offsets it internally. Well, it didn't change on SUnday. So, I set it to EST for now...in two weeks I will have to set it back to CST. Thank goodness I don't live in the eastern time zone, since the offsets are built in PST, MST, CST, and EST. *smile* I'd have to throw the clock in the Atlantic if I lived out East! *smile*

This DST thing is a ROYAL pain. Save more energy my butt...we're all expending a lot more -- will take decades to gain that energy back!

AdminNightStrike March 13 2007 1:24 PM EDT

It saved energy in the great energy crisis... it's just been made permanent now.

GO PATS March 13 2007 1:33 PM EDT

Wouldn't it be easier to set the "crazy" times 1 hour back? Such as EXP time at 11AM to 5PM and Money Time from 11PM to 5AM? I don't really care one way or the other, just figured I'd throw in my idea.

{CB1}Lukeyman March 13 2007 1:43 PM EDT

Call Me Moosh... your not allowed to state an easy solution! we all have to think of the hardest things possible to talk about.

GO PATS March 13 2007 1:45 PM EDT

Oh, sorry... well, couldn't you just call them up and demand that they move their company to the East Coast, so the times aren't all screwy? I mean, it's the least they could do, after what happened in Uganda in the 80's.
