Fast critters with over 8000 HP! Yikes! Nice score!
im at 845, what are the monsters trying to do...?
you cant have more than 100 monsters on the screen at one time, they do nothing but go around in circles.
2k gets pretty tedious... whats the fav tower so far???
i did mostly splash (4 level 9s, two on each top corner) and air, and 3 damage towers at level 1
at 1.4k now, haha, I just make a whole bunch of little arrow things, didnt level them up at all :p
Just lost at level 76, 2103 points. I was doing so good, too. Those Hard levels really set me back creep-wise. I'd have ~60 at the start of a level until Air, when it would go to ~65, then slowly down to around ~50. Hard levels would spike it up a lot, and it wouldn't recover from there.
That Hard Air level hurt, too. Took a long time to kill those. The next Air level (Fast Air) came, and I still had 5-6 of those Hard Airs left. :P

Just did 2595 using slow and splash towers :)
Did not bother building anything else, but air was pretty tough, as those anti-air towers suck big time.

2096 is the best I've done, and I did it just now... 8 spash, 6 air, 2 Big Thingees, 18 Ice. I'm thinking that the big guys aren't worth the money.
yea, instead of increasing dmg so much they need to increase the speed of its shots, cuz the big ones get good damage, but no matter what lvl, take forever to shoot...
Even when using 2 Damage towers only, and putting all my money in them, their damage got bad after upgrade level 4...Before that they kill everything in one hit. Not worth it.

Just got a score of 2675, lvl 96... 8 full splash, 14 slow, 8 full air... now if only I could figure out how to post my screen shot ;)
Almost. >.> Those hard/air levels really hurt my strategy. Especially the Hard Air and Hard Fast ones.
4 air towers (level 9 each) in the middle, and lots of slow, as you can see. My goal was to slow all the monsters down, kill the ones coming in from the right with massive splash, and then kill the ones coming from the left after. Worked well at the start, but Hard/Fast/Air levels made it fall apart, because of the way the towers target. :(
deifeln
March 21 2007 7:19 PM EDT
you can change the way they target by clicking on the creep you want'em to kill
That's a tad difficult with them all smooshed together, though. And I don't want them all to attack the same enemy. Especially my slow towers. I hate how they target air, too.
I wish we could change Air+Ground towers to only target one of them. That would make my strategy loads better.

"you want them all smooshed together for more splash damage"
I think he meant that it is hard to target a specific creep when they are all smooshed together.
2634 i'd post pic if i knew how, only used air and splash turrets, no upgrades, you get more damage and more range from having more turrets, and they're cheaper then upgrading too.
GO PATS
March 21 2007 11:33 PM EDT
I was thinking that too, since the splash damage doesn't really go up that much, so having a whole lot of 40 splash shots would prollay be better than 8 - 56 splash shots...

March 22 2007 12:49 AM EDT
Meh, I tried it out... only got to 2044 with no upgraded towers... But that's not to say there isn't something to it... maybe upgrading certain corner towers would help... (Actually, I think I ended up upgrading half of my air towers to the first upgrade... )
Lots of base towers lagged my computer a lot, so I just gave up.
It's hard to think of different ways to set up. Part of it is luck, which is annoying. Sometimes my towers declare a 4-second Pacifist stand and refuse to fire until the enemy is out of range. >.>
Flamey
March 22 2007 3:17 AM EDT
If you were wondering, I used splash and slow towers mainly.
I had all the splash towers upgraded to max, but the slow towers were mainly base, except for a one or two that were max and three or so that were level 3. I used two arrow towers maxed out, I don't think they helped much, they were mainly for air, because they shot fast.
I used I think 5 or 6 Maxed air towers, I think I went about 5 levels and still had air floating about the screen.
I believe splash + slow is a good combo, especially if there is a lot of slow towers, if everything gets slowed they're all clumped up and the splash damage is enormous.
Also, if you guys had noticed, you probably have, you can click on the creeps and the ones in range will target that, it helps with the slow towers. I clicked all the creeps in hope to slow them all then clicked somewhere in the middle to splash damage them all.
That was the reason why I said it was intense, Clicking insanely on the creeps, is what I tried to do.
Wee!! Man I was around 2100 before I found out you can click on specific units....

2682 is my high.
Seems you only need Splash, Slow and Air towers in this game.
Yeah, just did 2880 with that only. Fast and damage ain't worth it at all, just like some towers were useless in the first incarnation of the game.

Are you complaining that a good strategy uses 3 out of 5 towers? Could be worse. They could have made one tower so awesome that it was all you needed.

"Are you complaining that a good strategy uses 3 out of 5 towers?"

The game designer is in the process of fixing bugs and balance issues. Expect a patch eventually. (He did the same for the Elements TD).
I am hoping for new towers, would really like to be able to diversify my strategy a bit, as four seems a little too few.

Pretty easy game. First time trying a strat of all lvl 9 cannons in the right corner of the inside square, a few airs in the middle, and a few lines of slow near the upper left yielded these results:

I'm currently on lvl 175, with a score of 10,104 with 1,345,571 in the bank. The game runs incredibly slow when ever there are air creeps on the board, and slow most other times due to the fire power on there. I'd be happy to share a screen shot if anyone would be so kind as to tell me how to do it ;)

Still haven't finished this game ... need to take breaks lol ...
I recently just built out upgrades for most of my towers. All of the fast attack, air defense and big towers are level 9. I haven't decided what to do with the splash towers. I may replace them with fast attack (can attack air and ground) or air defense towers as the air units are the ones that take the longest to kill. The hard air units (phoenix looking things) have lasted past the next air wave.
Anyway here's the latest screenie ... enjoy :)
Shelingar
March 27 2007 9:38 PM EDT
BTW with my current setup ... none of the normal or fast walker waves last until the next wave starts. The last hard walker wave had 2 units left when the next wave started and they both died about 2 seconds after that wave started. I'm pretty much only tweaking things now. Next major change probably won't be until either the walkers or air units start causing problems.
wow, what level are all the towers?
and in what order did you set them up in?
Shelingar
March 27 2007 10:03 PM EDT
hmmm .... initially I built 2 fast attack towers - one at each entrance.
Then I built a few of the big towers on the center island and around 4 air towers (also on the center island.
I didn't realise there was interest until later in the game, so if I were to do it again I would have been saving money earlier so that the compound interest racks up quickly.
Basically the idea is to spend as little as possible and save money.
Also bear in mind that the best value for money is new towers. I do my initial placements where the towers have the best range and can cover both the inner track and outer track.
You don't want to build the towers on the central island the way my last screenshot shows until you can afford to be ripping down stuff. At higher levels the big towers can cover both the bottom and top, but at lower levels they can't. You want to build them on the top and left edge of the center island. Built there they can reach the outside. For some reason towers on the bottom and right can't shoot the outer ring untl higher level.
You will also find that some of the big towers on the outer ring can hit the inside ring when first built (level 0) and other locations need to be around level 4 before they can. I'll let you experiment for that.
Remember interest is King. Once you have enough base money in the bank you can construct off the interest alone. Right now I couldn't spend my money if I tried. My bank is now over 3 million and interest per wave is just silly money. I am actually wondering if the game will max the money or will roll-over. If it rolls over I am probably screwed, but then as long as I can survive for long enough with my setup to start earning interest again I may be OK.
For some reason, whenever I change the quality to low, it sets the current level to 20. O_o It only works once, but I'm curious if it happens for everybody else.
Basically: My guess is that damage towers are the best ones to use now. The splash damage isn't very useful unless you have slow towers, which take a toll early. Damage towers seemed to have worked better for me.
A good thing that I found is to build lots of air towers in the middle right when the air level starts, and then rip them down as soon as all of the air units are dead. You probably already know that, though. :P
I'm going to go back to playing, now. :)
Is anyone else noticing that around the 50+ level range the game seems to eat CPU cycles more and more viciously? I've tried it on 3 computers now, including a dual xeon, but it just continues to slow down more and more as the game continues, and around the 150 mark it's almost unbearable...
Xenko
March 28 2007 6:52 PM EDT
That's related to how many creeps are on screen and how many towers you have firing. At higher levels, you will have more towers, and likely a few creeps wandering around, and so the computer will obviously get slower since it has more to do.
I know that much, but this is definitely the result of poor programming. I'm talking horrendous slowdown. Of course it is true that I've got more towers, one game had every square used, but I was hoping it was attributed to an incorrect version of flash or something. There is no real excuse for this level of CPU usage in such a simple game.
Yeah, I'd gladly take a huge hit to the graphics in order to make it playable.
It's just too slow. Taking minutes to go though a 20-second round is kind of rediculous.

March 28 2007 7:53 PM EDT
Start upping the levels on the big guns with the cash you get from interest.
I'm currently at level 191, with the screen covered with Level 9 Damage guns.
I can usually kill a wave before it has to turn the first corner. No lag. :)
I don't know why you don't get lag, but it starts lagging noticeably for me by level 10. Especially the air levels.
That's with only 4 towers, too. :/
Mine really doesn't lag much until at least level 100. I can't see a real reason for it either, I can have 100 fast towers in early levels with almost no lag, but replace them with maybe a mix of 20 damage and 40 air towers and it will lag at high levels, even when almost no creeps are on the screen.

I'm thinking it might be memory leak or something. I noticed firefox is currently eating 400K ram. Of course its been a few days since I restarted it since I can't until I finish this silly game lol.
Still going slowly. I play for around 1/2 hour and then do something else... like work or whatever. Current score 15998, level 276. (this screenie was taken a couple of levels ago).
I'm all for updating games so they improve in quality but...this game has gotten rediculous if you can go up to that level, don't you think?
Not dissing your scores, though, people :)

I totally agree... I just hate not finishing something. It is only my 3rd game (1st and 2nd were pre patch). I don't particularly like challenge less games. If not for the fact this this was a complete resource hog I'd just run it in the background and check on it occasionally. But when its running I can't do anything else with the comp.
The reality is they should take out interest completely and up the fight rewards with each fight.

Heh. It's like the opposite of CB, instead of an insanely huge nerf, TD got an insanely huge anti-nerf.
I'm sure the next patch will go back the other way again... Critters (the programmer) will find the middle-ground eventually.

Ok .. I have no idea how to post a pic. If someone will help me out. I have the saved file, and might use it as my char pic for a bit. I finally just finished my game I also left mine on as I went to work. I was so tired of playing it. I went splash, air and damage. Nothing else. I had some fast for a bit, but the airs were out there too long so I decided to ditch all my fasts and go air... Also if you are wondering. Why splash? Because it works. I took the splashes off for 2 or 3 rounds to see how much they effected things at lvl 300 or so and it made such a difference I put them right back on. I was getting somewhere around 150 mil in interest every lvl when I left for work... Not sure how high it got.
Final Score 23,488 Lvl 409. I will post the picture somehow to prove it's not fake.

I started another game last night with the idea to set my layout fairly quickly and then leave it on overnight, but had to do a reboot. Anyway I was thinking on using a setup a little like Cylo described. ie A mix of air, big towers and splash. I think splash is quite effective along the entry channel when the critters are all bunched up.
Also at the end of the last game I had removed most of my slow towers primarily to make splash more effective. Even though there are spaces that can't be used by anything else, I think the extra splash damage outweighs probably outweighs spreading them out to give the bigger towers more targets.
Timberwolf
March 29 2007 10:31 PM EDT
Towards the end, I was only using Damage and Air towers.
Every new round of air creeps saw me requiring more damage on them.
It was getting to the point that Air creeps were going to be what killed me, there were just too many staying on the board for too long.
QBRanger
March 29 2007 11:19 PM EDT
I have noticed that the game runs much faster if you have no slow towers.
After level 200, i replaced all the splash towers with air towers and sold all the slow towers. The game then went very fast.
took me a good 3 hours or so to get to lvl 100, so i basically gave up. I wish the maker would triple the time or something, and allow building while paused so since its triple time you dont have to worry about getting towers down quickly to beat the creeps.
Q: At say, level 300, don't the towers become incredibly weak? I mean, level 9 is max, so do they not do horrible damage to the creeps? How do you guys make em kill alll those 34mil. hp creeps?
Looks like it got updated again. Damage towers are a little bit lower damage now, they fixed that bug where clicking low quality set the level to 20, and they appear to have fixed some of the slowdown issues.

Currently at level 140 (roughly, it's running in the background). The only challenge is its slowness. Most levels end with a clean map with still half the time remaining. Not sure for how long I (or my laptop, CPU is at 100%) can stand the slowness.

Why slow towers? I find them actually hurt your performance, as it takes longer for the creeps to move to the next damage tower that's ready to fire. Fast creeps die quicker than normal creeps because of this.
Xenko
April 1 2007 1:39 PM EDT
Maybe early on slow towers can help (by keeping the creeps in range of your limited number of slow towers.
But later on when the map is full there is no real use for them.
Timberwolf
April 1 2007 1:49 PM EDT
Like I said, that's what I had when I went to bed. It was running so slow this morning when I got up, I didn't want to chance crashing it fiddling with the towers, so I just let it run it's course.
I'll probably give this one more go tonight.
the only appropriate use for the slow towers, is to get units to stack so that splash towers completely own them, and with you sayin something about how it doesnt allow other towers to hit that are waiting...
the towers that you have get more shots in as its moving slowly so it works both ways
Hahahaha. Go figure. I ask someone for help and I finally get it...chatmail still hasn't been read yet. Currently on wave 263. 15.2k and going!
