So I finally hacked the ancient forum code here to add a private forum for admins.
Admins, you'll probably want to add this forum to your overview page in Settings.
Non-admins, don't get too disappointed yet -- here's what's in it for you. See, a lot of this forum code dates as far back as 1996, which is basically the Dawn of Time as the Web goes. I'm not really 100% sure that I've made it completely private. So if you want to poke around, I'm offering bounties here:
- 100k if you can show me a place that non-admins can see the new forum name
- 200k if you can show me a place non-admins can see threads in the new forum
- 1M if you can show me a way non-admins can read a thread in the new forum
Consolation prize in case I really did do a good job securing it: 1M to the best suggestion for improving forums _that is made in the appropriate thread in General_. I'll be the judge of "best" but we'll do a poll and I'll take that into consideration.
(Really obvious features like file uploads will be considered but aren't likely to garner the Best award. :)

I've found a way to access the admin forum, while not being logged in ;)
March 27 2007 3:55 PM EDT
You can see that you've made a test thread in the (admins only) forum by going to your user page but that's as far as I can go.
March 27 2007 3:57 PM EDT
D'oh! I feel stupid.
March 27 2007 4:05 PM EDT
And that's 'yours' as in yours Jon!
I can't see what's in the admin only forum, and I can't read the responses. I don't know yet if google would show me what they say..
$300k to JW. (And fixed.)
(The 100k and 200k prizes are still available for different holes.)
March 27 2007 4:11 PM EDT
Nope, it's not visible to me now Ed. Aren't you an admin though? Shouldn't you be able to see it? ;)
Thanks for that Jon!
thats what i meant when i click on the link it says The requested URL cannot be accessed due to a system error on this server.

Server Error when I try to change my settings to see what I can see :)
March 27 2007 4:15 PM EDT
Yes, I forgot you could set the forum settings in settings. My 'settings' page is doing the same, nice error message!
both server errors should be fixed now
March 27 2007 4:18 PM EDT
You are either not logged into Carnage Blender 2 or not authorized to view the Admins only forum.
March 27 2007 4:21 PM EDT
Still getting a server error on the settings link and also on the 'statistics' link on the forums>general (etc) pages.
I take it you added it to your overview list in settings? I thought I had that one accounted for...
March 27 2007 4:23 PM EDT
No, I just manually typed that in, until I found the correct ID number for the Admin log.
uber "Server Error" when going to settings right now
March 27 2007 4:28 PM EDT
RSS feed doesn't work for this forum, but I guess we can live with that ;)
"Server Error" page will go away once you log out and log back into CB again.
aww i saw mikel posted it, but yea, http://carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic_id=10
nothing for 7 and 8, but the 10 is for the admin forum.
You also get:
You are either not logged into Carnage Blender 2 or not authorized to view the Admins only forum."
If you edit the URL of a topic, like this:
And just changing the ending. Not sure if it's important, but I just felt that I'd point it out just in case. :P
This reminds me of that one endless online puzzle. Figured it was worth noting.
Kudos to those that have found holes!

Wish this was around beck in the day. Still, good for the admins.
Damn. I just lost a long standing bet with G Beee. ;)

That there already was a secret Admin Forum. ;)
March 30 2007 4:15 AM EDT
How naive, to think this is the only admin forum ;)
March 30 2007 5:06 AM EDT
I'm surprised you need a forum at all, considering such things as telepathy.....
"How naive, to think this is the only admin forum ;)"
That there already was a secret Admin Forum in CB. ;)
