NS or JW? (in General)

DiabloSpawn April 20 2007 7:59 PM EDT

By last vote count NS was the QB 2007. What gives?

th00p April 20 2007 8:02 PM EDT

QB is more than just popular vote - admins and Jon get together to discuss other to-secret reasons to elect a certain person.

DiabloSpawn April 20 2007 8:04 PM EDT

not exactly too secret...we all know NS wouldn't stand a chance if the admins and Jon voted since he is outspoken about them. I was happy at the chance to have a democratic election where the public had the final say but I guess it was not meant to be. Why have the poll then? PS. I am relatively new here so I didn't know the 'rituals' that go on. It should have been more clear in the poll that my vote wasn't worth anything.

DiabloSpawn April 20 2007 8:11 PM EDT

Please note that I have nothing against JW...well done JW ;) I just feel the whole thing was a bit misleading to those who have not been around that long. I mean everyone likes to feel their vote counted for something, right?

QBRanger April 20 2007 8:16 PM EDT

The exact same thing happened with Sefton.

This is not completely unexpected. The final decision is always Jon's.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 20 2007 8:16 PM EDT

Your vote does count for something. Just not everything.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 20 2007 8:45 PM EDT

The voting is one part of the process only.
The winner of the poll obviously has an edge over his competition but as it was pretty close anyway then the admins decision can easily sway balance.
The admins also look at the candidates from a fair perspective and I'd fully expect that Jon looks at them as if he were a 3rd party.

[T]Vestax April 20 2007 8:48 PM EDT

I could tell you from the beginning that Johnnywas was going to win. This knowledge has nothing to do with NightStrike's opposition to the administration. Johnnywas's induction into the QB club has been long in the making. A marginal lead in a popularity vote wasn't going to stop it.

Truth is, in this whole time, Johnny has simply been more consistent in his devotion to the community. This dependability is important in the role of QB. This is why I can't be a QB nominee (much less a QB), even though I know I've gotten nominations.

I'm not upset, in fact I agree with this. This is why Johnnywas has been declared a QB. Also, remember that you don't "win" being a QB. It is a title for something you already are. If NightStrike is truly a QB, then it will be obvious by the time the next election rolls around.

tscm April 20 2007 8:49 PM EDT

the poll I think just singles out the 2-3 finalists. QB is not just a popularity contest... but it does narrow the nominees.

QBRanger April 20 2007 9:01 PM EDT

Actually Vestax you are completely wrong.

QB is QUARTER blender, not a lifetime achievement award. It is for the person in the last 3 months who best typifies what CB is.

That is someone who posts in forums, is frequently in chat being helpful, is liked by the community and is an all around good person. And who does not get on the wrong side of the admins.

It was obvious to me that NS had almost no chance at being a QB. My guess, even if he won 100% of the popular vote, the electoral college of Jon and the admins would have made Johnny QB.

This is not saying Johnny is not deserving of being a QB, he certainly is. Congrats is certainly deserved.

Fantasysage April 20 2007 9:01 PM EDT

Then why bother with the poll? I think if it doesn't mean much don't bother with it it just gives people false hopes and if anything will upset the community. I hate when people do stuff like that.

[T]Vestax April 20 2007 9:05 PM EDT

If it is only for accomplishments within the last three months, then beg my pardon, why are you still a QB?

You have been usurped about 8 times now.

QBRanger April 20 2007 9:08 PM EDT

Because if you know your history Vestax, QB is a lifelong title.

Something that is not "taken" away.

If I remember there was even a QB in CB1 that got banned for a bot. If i remember right, his name still had a QB attached to it.

[T]Vestax April 20 2007 9:09 PM EDT

Also I think you are wrong about the popular vote. A 100% vote for NightStrike would have certainly made NightStrike a winner. You're simply trying to start a fight by saying he had no chance.

Personally, I think you are blowing things out of proportion on purpose just to stoke the flames.

QBRanger April 20 2007 9:16 PM EDT

No, not the flames.

Just answering the question posed in the thread.

NS had almost no chance due to his forum ban from Jon. IMO, that alone made him not qualified to be a QB.

If you really think that NS with 100% of the vote was qualified to be QB with a forum ban the last 3 months, then I don't know what else I can type.

No flames, IMO fact.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 20 2007 9:19 PM EDT

Aside from the issue of what Night has done, there is the reality that Johnny is a voice of reason and sanity, and the forums would be at a serious loss without him. I think QB has a large amount to do with how much the individual means to the community as a whole, and JW is a keystone here.

th00p April 20 2007 9:19 PM EDT

Diablo - you say the vote should be more democratic. In our own government, considered democratic, public vote means nothing either. It simply influences the greater powers, whether it be the electoral college or the admins and Jon, and helps them make their decision (although IRL they tend to go with the public vote a little more).

QBRanger April 20 2007 9:32 PM EDT

To clarify.

The forum ban for NS was 2 weeks, but it occurred in the last 3 months.

Flamey April 20 2007 10:02 PM EDT

If you had actually bothered to read the QB threads and the definition of QB you wouldn't be here asking this question. The Vote isn't completely useless, of course. Why would they tell us to vote if it was useless, it's just one of the factors that decide upon a QB, the admins want to know what the public think and who they want for QB.

AdminNightStrike April 20 2007 11:02 PM EDT

"The forum ban for NS was 2 weeks, but it occurred in the last 3 months. "

The forum ban was 1 week, and it was during the last QB election. During this quarter, I have not been banned. In fact, it was funny that I wrote my QB answers while being banned. Heck, I even talked about that fact in my answers last time.

This is the second time I've been nominated, not the first.

AdminNightStrike April 20 2007 11:07 PM EDT

"Johnny has simply been more consistent in his devotion to the community."

...Ouch...

Do you even realize WHY I was banned from the forum, chat, and chat mail? I stuck up for Zach when the admins removed all of his cash. Sutekh was the only other person who did. I put my neck out on the line there. I have several thousand dollars tied up in real cash in this game that I put at risk every single time I speak what's right instead of cowering in fear.

....Devotion....

Vestax, that really hurt. A Lot.

Mikel [Bring it] April 20 2007 11:20 PM EDT

Hopefully 3's your lucky number. For better or for worse, I'll be rooting for ya, just like this time. I think your patience, willingness to help and availability in chat, not to mention the loans, chat agent, and the many posts in the forums should have been heads and shoulders above the competition... /me shrugs Anyways, don't give up or get discouraged.

AdminNightStrike April 20 2007 11:22 PM EDT

You know what, Vestax? I think you really need to publically apologize for that statement in its entirety. I've remained relatively quiet this entire time, but that was just plain over the top. You tell me who else on here digs in to their pocket and gives out $40m loans to people on a regular basis despite having been scammed for what's totalling about $30m so far. That's $30m of principal, forget interest. I want you to tell me who else sat down and decided to learn a new language to create that XP calculator I made so that we could finally have a way to plan out our characters in advance and not waste so much time and energy with failed plans. I want you to tell me who else goes out of their way to commission a million dollar chat client because the current one is inadequate, then gives it away to everyone. I want you to tell me who else takes the time and effort to brute force everything in this game, and provides all information to everyone in easily accessible formats. Heck, they're even going to be included in the next version of the calculator that will be out next week. You talk about devotion... Screw you, Vestax.

AdminNightStrike April 20 2007 11:26 PM EDT

Just one more thing, Vestax... I get tons of flak for being a USD spender... You want to know why I buy all the cash that I buy? Look at my character -- it's all in liquid funds or in other peoples' hands. I do it for the community, so that veterans have a way to compete, so that they can try again, so that we can fight the constant draw of stagnation.... I could very easily drop it into a weapon or some such thing and be like everyone else, but I don't. I withhold that spending so that it's there for anyone else that needs it... and I never balk at the scammers or ask for retribution for it. Heck, I don't even accept it when someone tried to do it once.

I've had enough.. I need to walk away for the night, or I'm going to get myself permanently banned.

[RX3]Cotillion April 20 2007 11:52 PM EDT

If some people can't appreciate what you have to offer then forget em. Hopefully those 60 that voted for, you Nightstrike, will still be here, plus more, in 3 months to vote for you again. I know I will be. Its only of time.

Fantasysage April 21 2007 2:29 AM EDT

More power to you NS.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 21 2007 3:26 AM EDT

The words 'dummy' and 'pram' come to mind.
With that sort of a display after someone has simply expressed his opinion that one player has been a little more consistantly balanced in he community than the other I'm glad you didn't get QB and I'm very much hoping that unless your attitude changes that you don't get it next time either.
QB's are supposed to be the model citizens of CB and throwing that sort of hissy fit goes to show why you lost.
Looking back at CB1 there were a few periods where I was hugely active throughout the community in whatever way I could be but after the MrsDi situation back then I knew I wouldn't so much as get nominated although that didn't stop my activity.
I stuck to what I thought was right even if most did not agree or only secretly agreed and refused action but I knew after that point that even though I was right and action was eventually taken there would be no way of my name going into history, let alone having to overcome some of the great CB1 minds to receive the honourable title.
If you're going to speak up like that, expect more repurcusions than a simple chat or forum ban and don't react badly to someone thinking another player is more worthy than yourself because then public opinion is just going to spiral into oblivion.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] April 21 2007 3:41 AM EDT

I apologise for the extremely poor punctuation in that post, feel free to add any number of these that you wish.

, , , , , . . . . .

:)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 21 2007 4:23 AM EDT

Better run Zog, I think I hear Bast coming for you!

Flamey April 21 2007 4:28 AM EDT

I don't think NS is trying to say he is better than JW, but it looks like NS thinks that Vestax said NS never deserves to be a QB.

I think he still has the right attitude, but I guess it goes by what they teach you at school, if you get beat nearly to death DO NOT defend yourself, let them kill you, because quite frankly people can't defend themselves anymore because of personal attacks and the flames going on recently.

I'm trying to say this from a an un-bias point of view.

[T]Vestax April 21 2007 5:06 AM EDT

It seems that in my absence I have been unaware of the great wound I have inflicted upon a fellow clanmate. NightStrike obviously cares about the community and the game very much. Devotion, a word that NightStrike feels exemplifies him, is the same word he feels I denied him of. I had no intention of saying you were not devoted. It was a comparison of your devotion versus Johnny's.

I'm not going to ask you to read me correctly. I'm not going to encourage some form of back-and-forth garbage which forces the community to play sides. I will simply say what you want. I have no hubris to hold me back.

NightStrike, you are indeed devoted. You have tried hard to, again and again to enact change and question what is generally accepted. You, NightStrike, are a vessel of change. I admire this. You put up your own hard-earned money for the sake of the community. There is no question in my mind now that Carnage Blender is a part of you.

I have read back to the post for which you were banned. To avoid getting off-topic, I will mention this briefly. The irony is, and few people may know, I popped my head in and scanned CB at about the time of that post. It was really quite a sad site to see. I didn't come back to see that posts end.

NightStrike, you are also a hot head. That may be a product of either your passion or simply a part of your personal nature. You are abrasive and care little about the fact that you may be starting a fight. I'm not saying this to insult you. I simply think that you, and I, and everyone else could come up with a better way of dealing with each other.

Now for a final pardon. I thank you NightStrike for your monetary contribution to Carnage Blender. I hereby give you 2 million CB dollars of my own money in reimbursements. It is nearly all I have, aside from items, in this game. I have no real money to spare and so all I can offer is this fake money. However, you have shown that you can do far more with it then me, as I was only going to sink the money into my aspirations of a successful NCB.

Vestax (Rabbit Hole) 66.24.110.190 NightStrike (The Iconics 3e) $2000000 5:06 AM EDT

Good luck you and yours in both this game and in real life. Again, thank you and good night.
