Suggestion on Weapon Allowance (in General)

QBRanger April 24 2007 10:57 AM EDT

Another stupid/foolish suggestion by me.

In chat today a few new players were asking what was their weapon allowance. Like good players, they wanted to know what was the max NW of weapons they could equip.

I had no freaking idea what to tell them other then "get Firefox and download Greasemonkey/Verifex's script".

Personally I fell that this is an inadequate answer.

I feel 2 things have to occur:

First, something about the weapon allowance and its effect on PR and therefore rewards should be in the tutorial. Something to show new players that equipping that 10M NW MH they see in rentals is a bad thing.

Second, I propose that the weapon allowance be shown somewhere on ones character main page. Yes, it is getting a bit cluttered, but WA is integrated so much into the game. People are guessing at it and getting/buying weapons that just mess so much with the WA. This is especially true for new players.

Of course, this is all for my benefit and nobody else.

What do the rest of the players think?

I'm liking it :)

Another good idea from Ranger.

Very good Idea Indeed but wait!......All of Yours are :-)
Nice one.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] April 24 2007 11:24 AM EDT

I do not have access to my WA here at school because of the inability to install Greasemonkey.

I am ok with not having my auto scrolling feature here. Nice addition from the script that is more pleasant than necessary.

However, WA is totally necessary, and I feel it is illogical to be relying on a third party add-on to be able to view it.

I do think it must be put on home.

AdminNightStrike April 24 2007 1:13 PM EDT

All the Greasemonkey script does is multiply your total XP by 1.695. I really like this idea, and have suggested it many times (alongside making WA work like MTL). The best part is that we'll finally find out that the original specification of "WA is 2/3 of your trained XP" is wrong, and further that I'll finally be able to prove to Verifex that the formula in his script is wrong as well :) :)

Incidently, Ranger, when helping new players, point them to roy7's post which calculates WA based on MPR. It's linked from the WA section of the wiki.

QBBarzooMonkey April 24 2007 1:30 PM EDT

You know, for a long time I've wondered how players seemed to know almost exactly what their WA was - being unable to install Firefox (a no-no at work, and not available for my older Mac at home), I have had no idea how they calculated it...

I think this one's a good idea, too. I've said it before, that for a variety of very legitimate reasons, a lot of us can't take advantage of Firefox or Veri's script (even as much as we'd like to)...

AdminNightStrike April 24 2007 1:39 PM EDT

Barzoo, look in the wiki and you'll see roy7's very in depth explanation of how to calculate it from MPR.

QBRanger April 24 2007 3:51 PM EDT

Nightstrike,

Does a new players want to sit and calculate the WA after every set of 160 BA?

Does a new player even care to calculate it? My guess is that they get very frustrated at getting a decent weapon and having their rewards plummet.

If you want to make the WA visible only to new players during their NUB, fine. But I get, in chat, almost every day, a new player asking what the WA is. And then the question of what is their WA so they can try to buy a decent weapon for themselves.

There are far too many things to quickly learn in CB, calculating the WA should not be one of them.

Of course, I am again posting this for my own benefit and nobody else's.

QBsutekh137 April 24 2007 3:55 PM EDT

Um, everyone is agreeing with you, Ranger, including NightStrike.

What more can someone say, other than "I really like this idea"?

QBBarzooMonkey April 24 2007 4:01 PM EDT

Again, I completely agree with Ranger on this, and want to add a veteran's perspective - if one is NCBing, their MPR/PR is growing just as fast as an NUB's is. I may know how to calculate it now, but I sure don't want to every single time I log on while my NCB is in effect.

There are so many things to keep track of already, even once you do get the hang of the game. Everyone, both new players and veteran's, would benefit from having it readily available. Why else would Verifex have added it to his script in the first place?.

At least they would if this wasn't entirely for Ranger's benefit... Does that make Ranger the new Todd?

;)

QBsutekh137 April 24 2007 4:32 PM EDT

Barzoo, I played with Todd: I knew Todd; Todd was a worthy adversary of mine. Barzoo, Ranger is no Todd.

QBRanger April 24 2007 4:42 PM EDT

I need to apologize to NS.

I did not realize you were agreeing with my suggestion.

It is quite rare when everyone agreed with something I post.

Now I just need to hear that novice agrees with it and I can die in peace.

QBsutekh137 April 24 2007 5:03 PM EDT

If novice agrees with you, I think I will die in pieces.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] April 24 2007 8:50 PM EDT

Oh stop it.

I do miss the mystery solving involved with what CB was, and fear that
too much of the magic has been explained (challenge bonus being shown for example), however I also think this particular mystery is more of a chore than anything else. We've already got lazy links up the wazoo (not to be confused with Barzoo), and forge formulas accessible via a link on the forge page, why not tell people exactly how big a bazooka (again, not to be confused with out beloved Monkey) they can strap on.

QBRanger April 24 2007 9:35 PM EDT

I agree about the challenge bonus 100%. I think seeing it makes it far too easy to pick and choose your opponents based solely upon that stat. While before it was harder to figure such things out.

But the WA is something that new players have little concept for and frequently can mess up a strategy without knowing how much WA you have or do not have.

Even if only new players got it during their NUB, that would give then a bit more info to use and less confusion during their initial time in cb.

Phrede April 24 2007 11:03 PM EDT

I've changed my mind - I now disagree - the posts are not confrontive/confrontative (Bast ?) enough. Just Kidding.

AdminNightStrike April 24 2007 11:18 PM EDT

confrontational

AdminNightStrike April 24 2007 11:18 PM EDT

"While before it was harder to figure such things out."

Not much harder. You just have to hit "update stats" more often.

This was a recent chat:

<Notoria> Can someone give me 3k?
<Notoria> I need for the Long Sword.
<Notoria> >.<
{scytale} has joined the room.
<Ranger> dont use a long sword
<Notoria> Why not?
<Ranger> Noto, you have 46k on your character
<Notoria> It's the one that costs 49k.
<Notoria> [24x14](+17)
<Ranger> waste of money
<Notoria> What?!?!
<Notoria> Nah...
<Notoria> All I need is 3k.
<Notoria> ....
<Ranger> whats your weapon allowance
<Notoria> Huh?
<Notoria> Weapon Allowance?
<Fantasysage> oh lordy
<Fantasysage> not high enough i suppose
<Ranger> and this is why Jon needs to put it on the characters main page
<Fantasysage> yep
<Notoria> Where do I see my weapon allowance.
<Notoria> ?

We are trying to change BA regeneration rates, but cannot let new players know a basic function of the game. I'm stumped on why.
