Ouch! I stubbed my ToE! (in General)

According to the Wiki the Tatoo of Endurance:

* Reduces up to 75% of the damage taken. Aura effects companions to more than half of "main" effect.

What tests have been done to prove this? At what level does it "reduce up to 75% of the damage taken"?

QBRanger May 2 2007 9:36 PM EDT

In past changelogs Jon stated the TOE reduced damage by 75% up to its cap.

The cap via another Jon post is 16% of the TOE level for the minion wearing it, and the aura is 1/2 this, or 8% of the TOE level.

Thank you... that's what I was looking for "oh ye of permanent CB Discussion Board" memory!

So a ToE of 100,000 would reduce damage by 16,000 to the one wearing it and 8,000 for the rest of the part? Per round I would assume?

QBRanger May 2 2007 11:48 PM EDT

No,

A TOE of 100,000 would reduce the damage of the first 16k to the minion wearing it by 75%, and the first 8k to the other minions by 75%.

All damage over the cap of the TOE is taken at full strength.

IE, 2 minion team, TOE of 1M.

Someone does 300k to the minion not wearing the TOE.

After armor/protection etc... The 300k is 150k damage.

The TOE will reduce (since it is not on the minon wearing it) the first 8% of 1M or 80k.
So the damage that minion takes is 150k-80k=70k (full strength) plus 80k * .25=20k for a total of 90k.

If that TOE was 2M, then all 150k damage would be reduced by 75% for a total damage taken of 37,500. Since a TOE of 2M will reduce (on a minion not wearing it) 8% of 2M or 160k.

I had no clue that's how the ToE worked. I definitely thought that it could never reduce all of the damage taken.

I don't think it does "nothing" if damage is above the cap, it just has a reduced effect from what I remember.

Ranger, mind linking to Jon's 16% cap post? I never remember reading anything that that about ToE's cap? :/

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] May 3 2007 9:55 AM EDT

My understanding is a little different from Rangers. I too didn't know of the 16% level but taking that as the cap this is how I think it works.

The ToE reduces blows by 75% up to the cap level, not 75% of the cap, eg

1M ToE - cap = 160k against a blow of 200k the ToE will reduce it by 75% ie by 150k.
Once blows exceed 4/3 of the cap level the % reduction starts to come down.

Since AMF deals a fixed amount of damage and is extremely easy to calculate, this should be fairly easy to prove or disprove. Just use various sized tattoos against a large-ish AMF/DD combo, and the answer should surface.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 3 2007 6:38 PM EDT

I did that ages ago NS. ;)

But (although Jon has revealed the Cap) I didn't find any evidence of a Cap. Maybe the Values I looked at were too small. :/

I'll see if I can hunt out the old thread. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] May 3 2007 6:43 PM EDT

Couldn't link directly to it. Thread name is "ToE and AMF backlash reduction".

Back then (I know vlaues have been altered since) The ToE reduced AMF backlash by 5% of it's level, capping the damage reduction at 75% of the damage taken.

Jon mentioned about overwhelming the ToE, It might be possible to find out how that works by looking at large AMF backlashes and small ToE's. ;)

Just use a base ToE

[RX3]Cotillion May 4 2007 7:38 PM EDT

I have a ~7.7k L ToE someone can use for testing.

Tach [Forge Frog Services] May 10 2007 1:25 AM EDT

did anyone ever figure out conclusively how it works? it seems to me in my experience that the toe will continually reduce damage even if damage has exceeded 16% of its level
