Saying Ranger made a cameo appearance on "20/20 To Catch a Predator" isn't PG, yet saying "putz" (slang word for you know what) is fine.

None of it is fabricated. I changed the names since spell check wouldn't let me put it through. Using </nospellcheck> ruined everything. So I removed parts of some names, changed some names, and deleted the guy's name that had entered the room. Thats it.

So can someone explain this to me?

When the ops are in the "know" then you all will be too. Until then the ops just have to do the best they can do, and if you don't like it then you should just quit.

If this is the second time that he has defamed you I totally support the /kill, fwiw. However, if this was a first time incident I would have leaned toward a /kick.

Oh, and TH, I don't really have an opinion on Ranger's decision. A kill isn't the worst thing in the world. Best to just roll with the punches and move on. And also, when you're using HTML mode, the code <br> is the HTML code to go to the next line.

the above thread really bothered me due to the fact that a well-known player was making accusations about a relative unknown. the community seemed to think it was acceptable though because it was a possibility and therefore public accusations, if even remotely possible, are ok.

i do not agree with slander and think that baseless accusations in general are wrong and should be avoided, however i also believe all should be held to that standard. i am aware that cheating in a game and accusing someone of pedophilia are very different matters as well. it is the principle in general that i found the irony in.

Ranger may be a lot of things, but resorting to baseless accusations of that ugly a nature is another kind of attack all together.

Here's a great idea, let the past, be in the past... I don't agree with what happened in that thread, but I've seen it three times now, and I wasn't even around when it was created... I've had my arguments with Ranger, but they were dropped at the end of every thread and/or every string of CMs back and forth. The past is the past, you'll never get as far as you could if you're constantly looking back... Furthermore, there is *no*comparrison* between multi-ing, and child molestation. To even insinuate such is sick!

Dudemus, I have much respect for you, as you've no objections to speaking up when you feel something is wrong. And because of such, I feel I owe you the same courtesy.

Ranger, I love to argue, and you make a prime opponent many times, but in this situation, you are correct.

This thread went on far too long. And then it went on -way- too long after Jon posted. That should have, effectively, ended this thread.

You were killed. Lately in chat people have been making alot of rape/pedophilia jokes, and they have been frowned on (and players been kicked for them) consistently. This post was a waste, when the answer was so simple. You were wrong, and were dealt with by an op. It wasn't personal, it's just how it is.

The ops in this game do the best they can. If you have an issue with one, you ask them in PM or you CM them.


You know what really, really annoys me about this whole thread? First, the cause. TH doesn't debate the fact he should have kicked. He merely wanted to get Ranger's use of an iffy word called to attention and in my opinion that's just bad form. And the second thing that gets me is how many of you jumped on the bandwagon, attacking Ranger on a thread that had -nothing- to do with you, where he -was- in the right. I'm all for voicing your opinion, but this was ridiculous. The back and forth wasn't all one way, of course, but the fact is that none of you had any right to attack Ranger this time. You just wanted to because that's just how it goes on the forums nowadays.

Basically, if you feel you need to attack someone, at least be in the right. Or -believe- you're in the right. Because, if you go through this thread, there is no reason for you to post. None. And I'm only posting because this annoyed me so much.

If someone says, see you later or on to Catch a Predator, this is a joke.

Look at the context of the conversation. He is not making an accusation, he is making a joke about Ranger's multiple lives. And yes, you are welcome to say its a bad joke, a horrible joke or EVEN an un-PG joke if you REALLY have to, but, it is NOT an accusation. Bad comedy is bad comedy, not some declaration of fact. If I tell a blonde joke, or wait, thinking this be construed as a PG violation, I change it to an idiot joke. And I make a total fool out of the idiot in the joke. No someone comes on and say, hey wait, I am an idiot, this is slanderous, accusational, and deserving of punishment, then I should be punished?

Utter ridiculous nonsense. TH if you cant have a thicker skin about being kicked, then dont start teasing an admin. And Ranger if you cannot use your words, wit, and intelligence to defend yourself in chat, instead of kicking someone, maybe you should reconsider joining chat as well.

This was not TH's first time (read above posts), and it was plainly obvious his insinuation by his remark. This is a PG game and even references to such deviant activity is not appropriate. In a PG game, even jokes about certain things are not allowed. Of all people I respect your opinion near the top of the list, but in this case your 100% off base.

To use words to "defend" myself in chat would be to verify this persons existence which I really do not want to do. To try to reason with an unreasonable person in chat or even PM would be a futile attempt and a waste of time. Especially after he was already kicked and warned by admins about this exact behavior before.

It is still a personal attack on ranger, so it doesn't matter if it is an accusation or not. If everybody in chat started to make demeaning jokes about other people, CB would not be a fun place to chat anymore. This is one of the situations where you need to nip things at the bud.

He singled out Ranger not once, but *twice* with the same remark. That is not someone taking a joke out of context.

Well this just amazes me. Flabberghasted. Did you know some kid in like Wisconsin was fired yesterday, he was at work and his friend of over 7 years walked into their shared work place in her prom dress, so the friend wolf whistled. He was fired 20 mins later, with no complaint issued by the "offended" party, for sexual harassment. This is your world, enjoy!

The pendulum has certainly shifted in the other direction with respect to sexual harassment. As a physician I have to take courses on it to keep my license. 5 years ago who would have thought.

However, pedophilia has never been allowed. You are comparing apples to nuclear weapons.

Again, some things are forbidden to bring up in chat, especially in a PG game. If TH wants to insult me in chat, let him use his intelligence (or lack thereof) to try to in a PG type of way.

Yes Seft we all see that part of the conversation. And as you can see, I did not kick/kill anyone prior to what happened next.

But if you go further you can see where the offending part comes into play, directed completely at me.

Remember this was not this persons first time doing it, AND he was warned by at least 2 admins about it in the past.

So Ranger, then you should have said,

I kicked (or killed you) for making a non-PG joke, and I would have said nothing about it. This was not the reason you supplied earlier.

You can say, I would kick anyone making a Pedophile joke, because its not PG, you should not say, "I did what I did due to the fact that is the 2nd time you called or intimated that I was a pedophile." which implies you would not have kicked without the noted criteria, meaning that it was about you, or that it was done before.

I have to agree with Ranger as well. In a face to face situation, if someone started to make pedophile jokes about me, I'd ask them to stop, letting them know that it's offensive and not funny. If they persisted, I'd probably actually knock them out, as it's that offensive a subject to me.

Some subjects cross the line between bad humor and real offensiveness. A wolf whistle at a friend is bad humor, and in the grand scheme of things doesn't really hurt anyone.

A "joke" as tasteless as this one can escalate into ruined lives if it goes too far. If I were the target in this case, I would have started vehemently petitioning an op for a kill, since I can't knock somebody out in virtual www land, and can't kill a chatter myself. Ranger just happened to be both the target and the op...
