The SoD (in General)

ScY June 14 2007 4:34 PM EDT

Should the SoD get a permanent splash with its damage??

QBRanger June 14 2007 4:38 PM EDT

No

GO PATS June 14 2007 4:52 PM EDT

Yes.

QBJohnnywas June 14 2007 4:59 PM EDT

Would be nice, but ultimately...no. That would be more overpowered than a permanently seeking bow. Jon would never go for that...

8DEOTWP June 14 2007 5:02 PM EDT

how about we pay 4$ and get the SoD Splashmatic attachable deathray?

Brakke Bres [Ow man] June 14 2007 5:31 PM EDT

The SoD is the most under rated piece of ranged material out there. The only reason why you should actually use the SoD is because of the splash damage.

You could rather ask yourself would a bow get permanent mage seeker with its damage? Every one would answer the same. NO!!!!!!!!! this totally nulifies the point of specialty ammo!!!!!!

But seeing a bow got this ablity, why shouldn't the SoD get this? A simple NO to the SoD won't cut it (Yes Ranger your answer is a bit too short), but a simple yes wont cut it either.

But who is going SoD anyway? A good GA owns it. And with the huge damages the MSB and the ELB are pumping out, the SoD is the poor mans weapon.
Ex/Axbow? dont make me laugh.

QBRanger June 14 2007 5:37 PM EDT

OK,

No, see JW's answer.

noneedforthese June 14 2007 6:06 PM EDT

Maybe make the xplosive shots more readily available....

QBJohnnywas June 14 2007 6:25 PM EDT

The difference between the SoD and an ELB is the damage. Or more specifically the right kind of damage.

An ELB of x1400 might hit a single target for 2 million. A SoD of the same X might only hit for 400k. But that ELB' 2 million is against a single 20 HP enchanter in round 1. That 400k from the SoD hits the same enchanter, but then another 200k damage hits every other minion on the team. That's a million damage against the whole team in round 1 with the SoD. That's the right kind of damage.

Now this I like. Lol, I would (check my char). But I know that kind of effect as a permanent feature...the SoD would become the only weapon worth having. I don't want to see CB become SoD Blender!

QBRanger June 14 2007 6:29 PM EDT

As JW says,

Very similar to comparing a MM to a FB.

If FB did not have the "friendly fire" type of damage in melee rounds, I suspect that most people would be FB mages, even on 4 member teams.

Think of the cost of having to buy/find ex shots the equivalent of FB's "friendly fire".

With such a good weapon/spell, there just has to be some negative attacked to it.

8DEOTWP June 14 2007 6:37 PM EDT

Maybe make the explosive shots more readily available....

Brakke Bres [Ow man] June 14 2007 6:56 PM EDT

have you tested this out? 400k to the enchanter and 200k to all others?
What i know when I was using the SoD was that the splash damage was lower way lower, really if you take in a wall and ToE. The ToE can't overcome the huge elb damage of 2 mil but the ToE certainly can take the damage produced by a SoD. But then again no dares to up a sod to ELB lvl before Jon takes out the nerfing stick and nerfs the SoD back to stone ages. But the ELB and MSB nah those aren't overpowered?

Talion June 14 2007 8:49 PM EDT

Two comments about making Explosive Shots more available. That makes sense to me.

Since the end of specialty ammo, even considering that splash damage thingy, the SoD is currently as worthless as a Heavy Crossbow to everyone except the rich and powerful.

Since anyone who can't spend over 10$ per Explosive Shot cannot even think of using them, no one can use a NCB or NUB to build s strat around a SoD tank.

But that is only my humble opinion.

QBJohnnywas June 15 2007 2:32 AM EDT

Ok, the 400k/200k thing was a fiction, but not inaccurate:

here's a sample round:

Johnny's explosive shot hit lava mage [477241], Lava Tank [126234], lava enchanter [138553]
Johnny's explosive shot hit lava mage [412725], Lava Tank [109407], lava enchanter [119448]
Johnny's explosive shot hit lava mage [466660], Lava Tank [123712]
Johnny cries "Smoke And Mirrors!"

Now, ex shot; ok it's expensive if you are buying from auctions. But not that expensive. And not expensive if you're able to buy from the store.... ;)

muon [The Winds Of Fate] June 15 2007 2:40 AM EDT

It's a USD upgradeable fireball spell. The _only_ thing that stops it being the number 1 used weapon in the game is the rarity of explosive shot, in my opinion.

QBJohnnywas June 15 2007 3:14 AM EDT

As for the SoD being the poor man's ELB; I'd argue that one.

Faygo Showerer [6x2400] (+104) worth $35,453,776 owned by G Beee (The Tweenies - Score / PR / MPR: 1,455,208 / 1,531,077 / 1,178,663 )

versus

Giantkiller [5x1380] (+40) worth $13,658,876 owned by Johnnywas (Johnnywas - Score / PR / MPR: 1,546,966 / 1,078,071 / 794,688 )

Who do you think would win in this battle? For the answers to this one, check my recent battles...... ;)

lostling June 15 2007 5:15 AM EDT

the damages you see is with a x11 exp shot... however with permanent splash the damages will be reduces as it will be with x7 iron shots ... wouldnt that make alot of a difference?

QBJohnnywas June 15 2007 5:24 AM EDT

Initially it would make a difference, it would take longer to reach those kind of levels of damage. But not that much longer. And splash damage isn't about the amount of damage, it's about how it hits a team.

I'd love permanent splash damage from my sling, but it would be just too good, especially when it comes to people who can inject large amounts of cash into a weapon quickly. It would, to put it simply, own the game.

lostling June 15 2007 5:44 AM EDT

considering elbs are easier to upgrade and deal quite a lot of damage... is it the same? furthermore an SOD will have a lot of penalty to dex when entering melee

QBJohnnywas June 15 2007 5:58 AM EDT

IMO, the ELB is very overrated - even though there were predictions of doom earlier in the year it's melee tank/ToE teams that are ruling the roost. Yes, there are loads of archers about but unless you have huge amounts of cash tucked away you're going to be average at most.

I love ELBs, they're capable of huge damage; but they're also easy to counter. GA, Evasion, four/five minions all can play their part. My fightlist is full of elb/archer teams, all dishing out huge damage. And yet my much weaker SoD kills them all; most of my fights don't even get to melee.

lostling June 15 2007 6:12 AM EDT

GA gets blown apart by elbs damage lol... explosive shots are TOO rare :) they should spawn more frequently....

Brakke Bres [Ow man] June 15 2007 10:11 AM EDT

yah since they are not classified as rare ammo, they should spawn as frequent as bolts, iron shots and arrows.

GO PATS June 15 2007 5:15 PM EDT

I'm going SoD and I hate shopping...

Gandalf June 15 2007 5:36 PM EDT

I feel honored JW, you tested out on my char hehe :D
