Correct me! (in Off-topic)

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 21 2007 3:07 PM EDT

If you ever find that I make a mistake in anything I write here, I'd really appreciate, if you got a second or two, that you help me by correcting said mistakes :)

Almost NONE around me here in RL speaks proper English (or even reads it) , so it's kinda hard for me to practice, you see?

My English is probably more than understandable at the moment, but there is certainly room for a bit of improvement!

So, yeah, any tiny bit of help is welcome :)

th00p June 21 2007 3:16 PM EDT

Well that last paragraph is better English than 75% of the American population uses, including the President. Message clear though, we're all going Bast on you.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 21 2007 3:17 PM EDT

Which is the exactly my goal!

TheWyldeOne June 21 2007 3:20 PM EDT

no need for the "the" there :P

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 21 2007 3:20 PM EDT

Note: That WAS an intentional mistake :)

TheWyldeOne June 21 2007 3:21 PM EDT

i guessed just thought id throw one back :p

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 21 2007 3:36 PM EDT

Oh, and last thing, please make use of my CM and PM box rather than the threads I write in ;)

QBRanger June 21 2007 3:39 PM EDT

I am sure there are plenty of people who will be more then happy to point out any imperfections in your grammar, context, and spelling.

All the while making themselves look and feel superior to yourself with your pedestrian use of the elegant English language.

Have no fear, we will correct you, and all the while make you feel like crap for even trying to communicate with others.

BootyGod June 21 2007 3:40 PM EDT

Here, here!

Oops...

*waits for it*

stoner14 June 21 2007 5:12 PM EDT

you are lucky, with my experiences on Carnage Blender there are a bunch of people that will do this for you without you even having to ask. =P

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] June 21 2007 5:35 PM EDT

Ash, your English seems quite lovely! Certainly you've managed to accurately distinguish between "then" and "than", so kudos to you.

If you want an example of a correction, informally:

If you ever find that I make a mistake in anything I write here, I'd really appreciate, if you have a second or two, that you help me by correcting said mistakes. :)

Almost no one around me in real life speaks proper English (or even reads it), so it's kind of hard for me to practice, you see?

My English is probably more-than-understandable at the moment, but there is certainly room for a bit of improvement!

So, yeah, any tiny bit of help is welcome. :)

AdminG Beee June 21 2007 5:41 PM EDT

Did Bast just say "yeah" ?

QBJohnnywas June 21 2007 5:51 PM EDT

Ash, your English is excellent, I would never have known that there was any problem on your part with the language!! You certainly write in English better than most of the English speakers here! Better than my French would be anyway!

(My dad's first language is French. When he speaks to me in French I have to answer in English. Because he doesn't understand what I'm trying to say in French - it is that bad!)

BootyGod June 21 2007 6:09 PM EDT

Yah dude, like... youre engrish ish awesomness in da Xtreme.

;)

But, seriously, you always typed quite well (by extension I'd assume you also speak rather well) so don't sweat it too much. But I'll be there for you hehehe =D

Correcting that exactly one letter wrong in every sentence ;)

And as a note, the first sentence was so bad I just failed to get past the spell-check. I'm ashamed. That's the first time I've had to go back and make corrections in... quite awhile.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 21 2007 6:42 PM EDT

I know I don't write like a complete idiot :P

But sometimes I get lost in the middle of a sentence and the rest of it makes no sense at all. This is what I'd like to avoid, because I will be using my English a lot in the coming months, at work, and I want it to be perfect! (Which will certainly net me some Internship points, handy when you try to get a job later.)

SNK3R June 21 2007 8:47 PM EDT

You'll be my best friend in chat and forums if you type correctly. I love perfection. Bast can vouch for me.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] June 21 2007 9:04 PM EDT

Am I your best friend in chat and forums then, SNK4R? :)

QBOddBird June 21 2007 9:08 PM EDT

I assumed that you both spoke English fluently and conversed in English simply from watching you type. Most people simply don't try to speak with perfect grammar and spelling, myself included (excluding the spelling. I hate mis-spelling words).

Just goes to show that your current grasp on the English language is likely more than acceptable to most. ~_^

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 22 2007 12:10 AM EDT

I realise a may have had a skewed view of my own abilities. Thanks for the friendly comments, I do appreciate them A LOT.

th00p June 22 2007 12:18 AM EDT

Realize*

Don't talk like the British, they'll intoxicate your brain with terrible spellings like colour. They also think that tea is actually a meal that one can eat.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 22 2007 12:25 AM EDT

Ah, I was certain ''realise'' was spelt wrong, but thanks to you, I can spell it both ways, and blame it on the British if I get it wrong ;)

AdminNightStrike June 22 2007 1:51 AM EDT

"Almost NONE around me here in RL speaks proper English"

Where's "here"?

Flamey June 22 2007 2:44 AM EDT

yeah, I think that should've been "no one" instead of "none". You're English is fine, by the way.

and since when isn't should've a word?

th00p June 22 2007 9:25 AM EDT

It's an improper contraction, just like must've.

Flamey June 22 2007 9:31 AM EDT

CB's spell checker says it isn't wrong, but Firefox does. But okay.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 22 2007 9:32 AM EDT

NS: ''Here'' refers to the province of Quebec, in Canada.

I live near Montréal, it's biggest metropolis.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] June 22 2007 9:32 AM EDT

Let's concentrate on the "you're". :P

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] June 22 2007 9:33 AM EDT

Oops, I forgot that certain characters don't show properly.
