T3 - Capture the Flag (Advanced warning) (in Contests)

CB2's first team based tournament, capture the flag.

To enter this tournament, you must have a team of two members.
You may post in this thread if you are looking for a team.
You may begin forming teams whenever you want.

There are two roles in every team, attacker, and defender.

The attacker must attack each opposing teams defender. The defender attempts to create a team which opposing attackers cannot defeat.


If an attacker beats an opposing teams defender, they gain 5 points. If they are not able to beat the defender, the defending team will gain 3 points, this includes stalemates. Draws will not give points to either team.

The team with the most points will be the winners.


Rules:
Teams must chatmail me with their team name, and final team roster, along with jobs for each team member
(attacker/defender) before Tuesday at noon server time.

Character names must include the team name, and [A] for attacker or [De] for defender.

Attacking characters must be able to defeat defending characters in one battle, no double tapping. You will only receive points for one attack against an opposing team. On the last day, only your first attack against any given defending team will count towards points. :)

The tournament will end on Sunday, the 15th, at noon.
Only attacks made between Saturday at noon and the end time will count for points.

Decay may be trained in this tournament.
Tattoos may not be used in this tournament.
There will be a BA limit of 3500 BA, be sure to save enough BA for the last day of the tournament to fight each opposing team.
There will be 500 starting BA.
No character may retire before the tournament ends.
All rules in This Thread apply to every tournament, unless directly contradicted by a tourney specific rule, such as decay being allowed in this tournament.

In the event of a tie, the team with the largest combined MPR (attacker+defender) will win.

KM, the defender can fight until the Saturday to get their setup but must then only retrain at most.

the defender only has to build the best team they can, they can fight any day of the tournament against anybody.

Does the people the defender attacks get any points? Or is it only to test their setup kinda thing?

All the defender has to do is build a team, he uses BA fighting anyone (tourney or non-tourney) to do so. On the last day, the attackers fight opposing defenders, defenders are not required to make any attacks against opposing teams.

correct - points are only counted on the last day.

Attackers get one shot at each teams defenders, if they win, points for the attacker, if they lose, points for the defender.

Anyone wants to pair up with me for this one? ;) We'll need to sit down and get a good strategy in place.

As a point of order, Sunday is the 15th, unless you plan to let this run until October.

No, you wont have to fight every teams defender.

So you just have to pick fights carefully and rarely have to give points away.

A few clarities.

So can team-mates attack each other?
Can Team-mates buy each other's auctions? (Say I put an item for sale via auction house, and 4 hours later my partner buys it via tourney char. Is this legal?)

Team mates can attack each other, but will not gain any points by doing so. You may bid on your team members auctions, or any other teams auctions.

Why would an attacker bother to attack a strong defender?
Won't they mostly spend their BA attacking abandoned tournament characters that got bored and moved on?
Why risk giving away points to your nearest competitor?

Tourney begins today (9 minutes ago), but sign ups for teams are open until tomorrow. There is one day of tournament play where you do not necessarily have to be in a team, but starting Tuesday at noon if you are not in a team your character will be disqualified and retired.

Can I request an additional rule for this tournament? It would seem to be unfair if anyone's defender were to retire in the middle of the last day. If they did, that would result in some attackers getting points, while others would not be able to through no fault of their own. As such, could we add a rule that no defender may retire at any point on the last day?

I guess I still need a clarification here. If a team is disqualified, does that mean that no other team can score points against them? For example, if there are 5 teams on the last day, and 2 of the teams beat some team A, but the other 2 teams have not yet attacked team A, and team A is disqualified (for whatever reason...maybe retiring early), does any team get points for beating team A?

no points can be earned from a disqualified team.

Slayer, he means if you score points off a team, that isn't disqualified/retired yet, and then they retire, isn't it a little unfair that the teams who had not had a chance to attack the now retired now can't get points off him.

So the people that fight him before, do they get points ?

Yes, but then they have 0 chance of winning.

It is against the rules to retire your character early - perhaps to better enforce this rule (who cares if you a DQed from a tournament you've already lost?) Disqualifications will carry into the next tourney as well.

Just to make sure the rules are perfectly clear to me:

How about lowest PR char wins if tied?

Thats open to abuse though, an attacker could untrain/retrain a few times after they've attacked all the defenders on the last day thus lowering their PR.

Got a good suggestion from Tezmac - highest combined MPR (attacker+defender) will win in a tie breaker.

Slayer asked me as his laptop is a bit hard to get used to to lend a hand counting up the points. Just incase the ones from today are lost to the ether (shouldnt be) heres rough guide to the points thus far. Ive counted up a couple wrong I know, hence the rough but the bit with the wins / losses is correct its just the tallying thats a few off for a couple of teams.

How can the killers win AND lose against ED?

I was under the impression that there was a 3500 ba limit but some of the higher teams seem to have participated in many more battles than that.Am I missing something?

Zaekyr - not a single one of them has CHALLENGED more than 3500 battles, though. =) They can't control how often others attack them, now can they?

I think all the teams are confused ;) I see the attackers attacking other team's attackers.

I think they're just fighting and have already done the points worthy fighting.

So they only need to defeat the defenders once? If that's the case, that explains the behaviour ;)

By my accounting, The /Killers got 65 + 15 = 80, AJ got 60 + 15 = 75, and Breakfast got 65 + 9 = 74. I could be wrong, but it's not likely to matter as it's the same places as a result. Thanks to Slayer for running a very interesting tourney. I like this format much better than score based tourneys!

Not sure how you got 39 for us, I bet 11 of the 13 on the last day giving 55 and I count 4 wins for my defender giving 55+12=67.
Doesn't change anything but yeah...
