Upsurge in Scores (in General)

muon [The Winds Of Fate] July 10 2007 3:24 AM EDT

Hmm...

I have been less than regular these last couple of weeks (due a subscription to EVE online) but have noticed an upsurge of scores. Today, one of my regular opponents (bob) has a score of almost two million. The average score of my opponents raised by about 300k..

I checked the user/stats/scores and for the first time in a _long_ time, I noticed that a whole bunch of people were above 3 mil in score (and not just the BR folks ;-)

I think this is a good thing, but is there any explanation for it? Or is it just one of those fluctuations that happens in CB land?

Just curious,
Cheers,
muon.

My own opponents are now ALL back to giving me 100% bonus. From 91-95%, they all seem to have got a raise.

More often, please :)

The only thing I noticed dramatically was novice getting a massive tat, I'm not sure if it was still Sut's.

My guess at it is, it allowed him to farm higher score opponents, but some strats could still beat his? So more score got passed down from the very top to a bit lower, just a guess, though that wouldn't explain an increase in the score of the top people, just mid-riff people.

Apparently it's not Sut's tat, he still has his.

Well theres tournaments now, but I d have thought that would cause a score slump..

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] July 10 2007 12:21 PM EDT

It is down to the Alchemist hitting a number of the top chars, Novice hits the alchemist making a link downwards.

"Well theres tournaments now, but I d have thought that would cause a score slump.."

How would tourneys matter with their separate BA?

I could see your point if the BA was one pool, but I highly doubt tourneys have anything to do with scores of non T characters.

I think he was referring to the focus shift - not sure if it would really affect your playing, personally.

BootyGod July 10 2007 3:49 PM EDT

Score slump due to a decreased use of BA because people spend more time on their tournament characters. This would be especially true at the beginning of each tourny while player rush to get that 1000 BA out.

I was just alternating fightlists between refreshes...burning 2 sets didn't actually put anymore time into my day :D

I actually get a 17% bonus with my RoE now on some opponents, and a 3% with my ToA. Been a loooong time since I have seen bonuses that high with the Space Knights.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 10 2007 4:59 PM EDT

RD,

There isn't anyone back down in the lower-ish ranks that can beat Novice anymore since he equipped that tattoo, so I don't think he's the cause.

Could be Hatchetman though :P Mages can easily beat him but he can kill many high up tank users. I've seen his score fluctuate from around 2.7mil to 1.4mil.

Flamey July 10 2007 9:44 PM EDT

Gun beats him, that's enough.

"How would tourneys matter with their separate BA? "

last time I checked tourney characters effect non-tourney characters scores...

QBRanger July 10 2007 9:56 PM EDT

Yes Myth,

But most tourney characters are below 100k score. The upsurge that is being discussed are much higher then 100k.

"But most tourney characters are below 100k score. The upsurge that is being discussed are much higher th[a]n 100k. "

did I say tourney characters caused the upsurge?

you said tourney people wouldnt effect cb scores because they have seperate ba, i was just pointing out that that is incorrect, and they will, I did not say, and thus the upsurge is because of them...

QBRanger July 10 2007 10:33 PM EDT

Either way, slump or upsurge, T characters will have very little if any impact on the score cascade which generally starts at the top and trickles down.

stoner14 July 10 2007 10:46 PM EDT

well, it had some affect on scores in cb1, lots of unequipped chars or 'lightly' equipped chars were farmed to death causing them to be retired... but i don't want to start arguments, just putting my 2 cents in. My view is that maybe everyone in the top is sketchy about fighting each other because they win %50 of the time and lose %50 of the time. so they only fight opponents they can win against leaving many of them with hardly anyone beating them to drop their score. But, i have no idea on why it suddenly turned upwards...?

Flamey July 10 2007 10:51 PM EDT

they shared BA in CB1.

QBRanger July 10 2007 11:00 PM EDT

A few reasons why it turned upwards recently:

1) Sut restarted fighting and got his tattoo back

2) My PR is higher so when The Alchemist beat me, his score went up a bit more, and then trickled down. Also the PRs of others at the to have slightly increased also raising the scores of those that beat them.

3) The Alchemist is now beating everyone in BR almost 100% except Koy. That takes a lot of score and trickles it down as others beat him.

I have noticed that the program tried to make your score=PR. If you have a low score and beat someone with a very high PR, you will gain a lot of score vs beating someone with a lower PR. Vica Versa- If your score is very high and you lose to someone with a very low PR, your score drops like a rock.

With peoples PRs getting higher overall near the top, scores rise to compensate for this.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] July 11 2007 1:04 AM EDT

I looked through Gun's fight log - haven't seen him beat novice

And I'd say novice's strategy is just the kind that would beat a single archer, no?

DreadedTiger [4x20] (-x) July 11 2007 5:09 AM EDT

Score trickles down.. it also has to do with the fact that Koy isn't holding all of it anymore (although not for long, I assume). Everyone who was at the top of the score ladder, including BR, NWO, Hubbell, and myself, are now about 400k less score than they were about 3 days ago. The combination of [TH] and Novice have trickled the score down into a lower bracket of people.. yadda yadda, it's already been said.

Regardless, this is a good thing for people at the bottom because challenge bonuses trickle down as a result. It's sad, though.. I rather enjoyed my big challenge bonuses.. time to share the wealth!
