I want new CB look! (in General)

I know that PixelSage was working on one, but are we going to just wait forever for him or what? It seems like he was practically done last time we checked in with him, can we not go back and at least grab that and whip it up here on CB. I think it's very sad that we can't have a fancy new interface because we are all waiting on Pixel for some unknown amount of time.

Isn't anyone else here good at making pretty html with CSS and pictures?

I don't mind the wait. The guy has things to do of course. But a simple response to say "The project is not dead" or something like that would be greatly appreciated, for sure.

The mere fact that CB voted him QB without so much as having done anything (still) is a little suspect. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy and all, but I want results!

Well, now that the contest is over...

I would have kept giving it a shot, but I never had enough time. I mean, really, look how far I got. Big whoop to the sidebar with nothing to show on the main side (I was going to start on that next) and probably a really crappy start to a theme engine. (Though, I still do like the idea of the mouse roll-over thing on the sidebar...it began to grow on me.)

But, really, I don't like Pixel very much. He was nominated QB for (personally) I think not much. Maybe his loans and upcoming skills for a new CB layout? But, immediately after getting the title, he took off and hasn't really been around much since. Not even a single "Hey, I'm still workin' on things, chill out" type of post. Oh, and also the amount of money that he received kind of irritates me.

But, hey, at least I had enough decency in myself to not submit something that wasn't finished. Now I think I'm just getting grumpy, nasty, and mean in my old age. I should probably see someone about that.

Ah. I recall helping you make a few things for that, SNK. To tell you the truth, I don't think you should have ever abandoned what you were working on, even though Jon just gave the money away (rather foolishly, I might add).

I'm really surprised at the lack of recognition on the part of the entire community. You all gotten taken! This guy promised you all something he probably never intended on truly delivering, and we fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. Even voted the guy the most influential person in all of CB for those 3 months. For doing what? Loaning a few people money? I never saw him in chat helping new players, and for that matter, I've only seen him in chat a total of three times. Granted he was very cordial, but that still doesn't sound like the behavior of a QB. It is my thought that we got hosed here, and it's our fault.

So what are we going to do about it? I would be willing to pay, say, $50 USD to someone if they actually produced that coveted new interface. Would you pay for that too? Maybe we can get a nice little pot going for some inspired talent around here. But this time we don't pay up until we have the finished product!

I actually do like the float over menu SNK, but it probably needs a bit of polish.

I hope that there are some other graphically minded people here on CB who can give us something to be wowed by, I mean really, I've seen some amazingly sweet designs out there, so I know someone somewhere has to know someone somewhere who would like to leave their mark, and even get paid a bit for the work.

I'd love to pick up the work. Wouldn't want to do it for money, but I do enjoy building things of that nature. The only downside is having to deal with IE6 compatibility. I seriously hate that. I love it when I can use a standards reference guide and have it match the UA... especially in the world of javascript.

Incidently, I think I'm pretty sure I voted for Barzoo... or I abstained.... not sure which.

NS, you can use MochiKit in your interface if you want, as CB uses MochiKit for some ajax communications and I know that mochikit is very x-browser compatible.

I am not asking anyone to forgive Pixel Sage for not delivering the new look after it was promised. However, I will say that he has a good excuse for not having any time to put into CBII anymore.

School always has to have priority over a game, even if that means the community will hold a grudge against you. I can't vouch that what he wrote is 100% true, but he did mention that he is trying to squeeze in development time to finish the project.

Why hasn't he been defending himself in the forums? I personally think that it is for the same reason that he is not logging on anymore: He has to dedicate all his time to school and study, so he has no time to spare for online debates.

Had quite a while, and school isn't that demanding.

I'm pretty sure he took it up as a fun task.

From what I understand reading Pixel's old threads is that he was going to implement a system for a more robust theme editor. But reading this current thread, all it seems is you players want is just a new theme. Looking at the examples posted, only further supports the latter (to me).

If you really wanted a different looking interface, I'd be happy to attempt to take on the task, i.e. change the look and feel.

Lamu -- you are slightly correct. Pixel was chosen for his aptitude with graphics, not necessarily his coding prestige. This is confusing, given that an engine should not contain any content at all.

Pixel wasn't "chosen" for anything. He won a contest in which none of the other participants had anything close to what jon wanted, and so jon gave him half of the prize for what he did do, and the rest was going to be given after pixel worked out some of the bugs in his engine.
Obviously the second part was never finished.
