No Harry Potter thread yet? (in Off-topic)

So no one here has read The Deathly Hallows yet? I finished it two days ago, and was very impressed. Anyone else finished reading it yet?

(Don't post any spoilers in here, please.)

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] July 26 2007 12:15 PM EDT

This sounds pretty lame, but I don't have the time and money to invest in the book, so I just went to Wikipedia and read the plot summary. It seemed okay, I guess. ;x

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] July 26 2007 12:40 PM EDT

i started it last night, i had to wait for my daughter and then my wife to finish it. so far it is great! she is a wonderful story-teller.

Lady Die July 26 2007 12:46 PM EDT

Hehe yeah, i finished it days ago. Bought a copy and passed it back and forth between myself and my Aunt. Now i'm loaning it to my Reverend lol.

Slashundhack [We Forge Our Own Stuff] July 26 2007 2:28 PM EDT

Ain't read one yet why start now ? I'll probably wait till I can get them all at once for free !

Mythology July 26 2007 7:49 PM EDT

I was really happy with it, but equally unhappy as its the last one. I wouldve liked it if it was about twice as long though some of it just seemed to fly past.

Mem July 26 2007 7:58 PM EDT

Yeah, I'm quite disappointed that the series is over, but it had to end sometime! Perhaps we take some small measure of solace in the fact that Ms. Rowling has said that she'd like to continue writing something in the world that she's created. I highly doubt it'd be about Harry Potter, but anything would be fine by me.

[RX3]Cotillion July 26 2007 9:00 PM EDT

I thought you guys weren't posting spoilers...^^^^^^^^^

Nice.

Mem July 26 2007 9:34 PM EDT

Where was the spoiler?

QBsutekh137 July 26 2007 11:50 PM EDT

Red, it is well known this was the last book in the series...no spoiler there...

Lochnivar July 27 2007 12:25 AM EDT

I think the final book was very welll done especially considering the pressure on the author.

Kind of funny... wait for year for a book I then read in 7 hours at most.

ah well... I'll just read it again

Mikel [Bring it] July 27 2007 1:53 AM EDT

I liked it. Sad that it's all over, but also relieved that it didn't drag out for several more years. Now the movies just need to catch up.

Ancient Anubis July 27 2007 2:36 AM EDT

I honestly have to say i can't get into it read the first 2 but i prefer Raymond E Feist and David Eddings although I'm sure the stories did get better further on down the track. Maybe when I'm not busy working, sleeping and playing carnage i might read the rest.

[RX3]Cotillion July 27 2007 2:44 AM EDT

I didn't know it was the last book in the series, but then again I haven't heard much of anything about it. I'm not one of those people who gets mad if something is spoiled. It's not that big of a deal, I was just messin. :)

Flamey July 27 2007 2:49 AM EDT

I was going to but eh.

It was awesome, I was talking to my friends about it, and as we were discussing it, I realised how good it was. Especially for the last, I loved it.

The only thing that bugged me was the last bit or last "chapter" (to not spoil) it could've gone in more detailed.

Gandalf July 27 2007 5:30 AM EDT

Yeah i know what you meen there Flamey, nevertheless the book

was awesome, really good author :) Im also sad the series has finished :(

Mem July 27 2007 8:31 AM EDT

You talking about the epilogue, Flamey?

Flamey July 27 2007 8:42 AM EDT

Yes, that.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] July 27 2007 11:35 AM EDT

Pfft, read some real literature

AdminShade July 27 2007 4:44 PM EDT

4/5th through it and loving every word of it! :)

Mem July 27 2007 7:05 PM EDT

Zog, the Harry Potter series is real literature. It just happens to be an early teenager level read, but it's every bit as good a read as, say, 1984 or The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (which happens to be my favorite book).

Miandrital July 27 2007 7:12 PM EDT

JK Rowling's writing style is indeed coruscating.

[P]Mitt July 27 2007 8:26 PM EDT

I got it at midnight (I was on Fox channel 2 - shown waiting in line)
my friends+me were second in line to get the book :)

Went over to a friend's house and read until 4, then came home and read until 5:45, then slept for 2 hours, and finished by 9:40, July 21st

Intense plot, and very well written... it's my favorite HP book.

Er, not to offend anyone but.... HP isn't that great, in fact it isn't even good. I really dislike it, besides HP needs to get a cloak;).

Mem July 28 2007 5:27 PM EDT

Thank you for your most learned opinion, Marlfox, but I believe the large majority of us totally and utterly disagree.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] July 28 2007 6:02 PM EDT

I was sort of joking. But i never liked Harry Potter books.
I really like books that make me learn a new language. (Thanks Tolkien, without you i would never have wasted 2 weeks of afternoons trying to figure out Sindarin.) But potter does need a cloak, make him look less like a geek and more like a wizard.

Mem July 28 2007 6:16 PM EDT

Harry Potter does have a cloak, although it happens to turn him invisible. And perhaps the Harry Potter series didn't create a new language, but it used Latin heavily. Plus, J.K. Rowling invented the sport of Quidditch!

ignignokt July 28 2007 6:26 PM EDT

I've never really been one for Harry Potter, it's not part of my matutinal reading.

Lies!! You quisslinger!!

ScY July 28 2007 9:54 PM EDT

You have to appreciate Harry Potter for what it is. It is not Dostoevsky, it is not Blair, it is not Herbert. Harry Potter is a fun, enjoyable read which you can get captured by, or you can totally miss out on the fun by being skeptical and cynical.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] July 28 2007 10:26 PM EDT

I don't think HP is as good as the entire world makes it to be. But then again...when you think the majority is wrong, oftentimes it's because you are yourself. It's likely I am, judging by the size of Rowling's wallet.

Besides, anything that can get my brother to read must be something else. I mean, he learned how to with Harry Potter. (He's very academically challenged.) Like a lot of other people apparently, all over the Americas and the whole world.

While I may not think it is a great series of books, it's author certainly deserves praise for bringing all these peeps to actually get a grip with one of the most essential skills that we need to master in the 21st century.

InebriatedArsonist July 29 2007 12:05 AM EDT

Forget the cloak, what Harry needs is a hat! Without a wizardly hat, how else to let everyone else around you know that, hey, you're a wizard. It just makes no sense!

And, no, I haven't read any of the Harry Potter novels.

Darkwalker [Jago] July 29 2007 3:15 AM EDT

Maybe a simple show of hands who has read and who hasn't read the HP series will tell us a tale.....

Gund July 29 2007 3:38 AM EDT

Well if you have read Harry Potter books, you can draw a line between wearing invisibility cloak and casting a spell to render someone invisible...

I myself am not too impressed with it, but so far this last piece of novel has more unpredictable tales. It's common that the last thing a writer does in last piece is revealing some hidden and vague things of previous writings.
