PTH clarification (in General)

If someone can confirm this, I will speak no more of the subject unless Jon steps in.
I want to b certain that my understanding is correct.
Situation 1...
Attacker: +0 weapon / 1 gazillion DX / 1 gazillion Ethereal Chains.
Defender: 0 DX / +100 Displacements Boots.
Result: 0% chance of scoring a hit.
Situation 2...
Attacker: +100 weapon / 0 DX
Defender: 1 gazillion DX / No Evasion / No Displacement Boots.
Result: 100% chance of scoring a hit.
Is this correct?
Situation 1: I'd bet you have some chance
Situation 2: dunno how much dodging a gazillion DX would get you but I think you'll miss.

From my understanding, dexterity hits can have up to 166% chance to hit if you are using a one-handed weapon. So a +100 displacement boots will only reduce the chance to hit to 66%, so it is not 0%.
A +100 weapon will have a 100% chance to hit based on the PTH of the weapon itself and no dexterity hits since it has 0 DX versus a defender's DX.

Thanks Kong. Very helpful.
So, if you are correct, the biggest DB in the game (+209) cannot be hit by anything less than a +43 weapon no mater how much DX is involved. Correct?

Roughly, yes.

Ok, so here is the final answer as I understand it.
Situation 1...
Attacker: +0 weapon / 1 gazillion DX / 1 gazillion Ethereal Chains.
Defender: 0 DX / +167 Displacements Boots.
Result: 0% chance to hit.
Situation 2...
Attacker: +100 weapon / 0 DX
Defender: 1 gazillion DX / No Evasion / No Displacement Boots.
Result: 100% chance to hit.
Thanks Kong Ming and Nerevas for providing the facts.
i may be wrong but i thought that the + on DB took down the + on weapons then cut into the attackers DX if they were big enough.

Yes, that is what is explained in Situation 1. The max CTH granted by DX is 166%. So if you have +167 DB against a +0 weapon, it will completely nullify the CTH granted by DX.

wait, so If I have a +266 weapon, I will get 100% CTH regardless of DX?
Talion

166% actually. You will be able to score multiple hits 66% of the time.
Unless of course your target is wearing DB and/or training Evasion.

Correction... you will have 266% chance of hitting your opponent, if no Evasion or DB are involved. So, 66% of the time, you will score triple hits.

A +266 weapon will cost over 200M CB2.
I would think that such a weapon would be a legendary artifact. Something of a Stormbringer or Excalibur. Legendary weapons.
I would not have a problem with a special ability of such a weapon be "always hit".
If you want to spend that much money to own such a weapon instead of trying to raise your dex, perhaps you deserve the ability to always hit.

Legends are sometimes true...

Ok, with a +220 boomstick and 20 DX I will definately hit a 99999999 DX tank if he has no evasion/DB's?

Your exaggerating quite a lot.
Figure the highest dex will be about 3M, not 999M.
Use reasonable analogies when comparing/discussing things.

Yes, you will have 220% chance to hit even if you have 0 DX. Unless, the minion has a pair of displacement boots or trained evasion.

I have one more question, a 20 DX tank with a with a +266 weapon will defenately hit a 3M DX tank with no evasion/DB's. The DX gap will reduce my weapon PTH by 166 so weapon be a +100?
Kong Ming
August 9 2007 8:09 PM EDT
DX gap will not reduce your chance to hit based on the weapon's PTH. There are 2 ways to hit an opponent, either using dexterity or the weapon's PTH. Dexterity hits allow up to 166% chance to hit while weapon's PTH depends on the +. So if you have +266, you will still get 266% chance to hit regardless of the dexterity difference.
