Ouchies! (in Off-topic)

Just got out of the hospital Saturday morning from a scooter crash that I was involved in on Thursday. I was riding on the back of my friend's scooter on the way back from the place where mine was at and getting repaired. Nick was driving, and we were going down the street at 45 mph (the limit on the street we were on), when a van pulls out from one of the cross streets on the left and stops right in front of us. Nick tried to avoid the van, but there was no possible way. He managed to hold onto the scooter and handlebars, causing him to slide with the scooter, and getting a good deal of road rash. I, being on the back and not holding on, went flying, bouncing and rolling down the street. This resulted in some minor road rash, and getting 6 stitches in a cut on my left leg, and a couple dozen stitches in a deep (but not threatening) gash on my left hand.

For the record, we are in the process of dealing with the guy's insurance company to cover medical bills and the totaled scooter. We were not wearing our helmets, though in hindsight, we probably should have been. And, we are perfectly fine. Even managed to go to a party the night i got out of the hospital :)

Glad you're ok. If you'd been in the UK though you'd have had a visit from the cops, a fine and penalty points on your license for not wearing a helmet.

I thought it was the same law in the US too, or is it different state to state?

state of Florida only requires proper eye protection for bikes of a certain size.
