NUB / NCB formula fixed (in Changelog)

AdminJonathan September 18 2007 12:48 PM EDT

A couple days ago I quietly fixed the NUB/NCB formula for new users and new NCBs. Today I applied this retroactively to current NCB characters and all affected NUB users. If you were among those affected, you got a chatmail.

Please note that affected NCBs whose bonus period has ended were not granted a new NCB period, since their users have either started a new NCB (which would have gotten the fix) or have not and are thus eligible to start a new one which will automatically used the fixed formula.

(Also note that a few NUBs got chatmails who shouldn't have and who will not see any extra bonus. Bug in my script, sorry. Some others will have seen a slightly different number in the chatmail than is the actual bonus number. The one CB displays to you during battles is the correct one.)

The chatmails went out slightly before the new bonuses took effect, but when this is posted the new bonuses will be active.

thx a bunch

Dark Dreky September 18 2007 12:50 PM EDT

Nice! A much needed change... everybody gets another shot at the top! Thanks Jon!

lostling September 18 2007 12:58 PM EDT

errm question my nub was long over yet i still got the nub change message lol

AdminJonathan September 18 2007 1:07 PM EDT

"all affected NUB users"

you got an extra two weeks if it was over, at a rate calculated to make up for your lower NUB during its normal period

AdminG Beee September 18 2007 1:07 PM EDT

Excellent. Thanks Jon :)

lostling September 18 2007 1:08 PM EDT

thanks jon :) *worships*

QBOddBird September 18 2007 1:28 PM EDT

Thank you very much Jonathan; this was a much-needed and long-awaited change. Now it is fair for the new players, and we can again say to them honestly that every player has a shot at the top without having to tag on that little 'supposedly' line. ^_^

Kai September 18 2007 1:38 PM EDT

Very good news, I've been saving money since I made a new character so I can get a full-length NCB after my NUB is over. Nice to know that if I play my cards right and stockpile the money for buying all my BA I have a shot now!

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 18 2007 1:43 PM EDT

Hehe, 552% bonus.

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] September 18 2007 1:48 PM EDT

Lol, the "OMG I got a new toy" effect has dissipated enough for me to post something a bit less retarded :)

Thanks, this truly is a nice change!

Yukk September 18 2007 2:10 PM EDT

Hey Jon, are you going to send out notices to those who were incorrectly informed ? Just so they know :) Or maybe you already have.

TrueDevil [AAA] September 18 2007 3:22 PM EDT

wow this is really nice, too bad my NCB will be over in 6 days. Will start a new one again. :)

48DangerZone September 18 2007 3:25 PM EDT

Dont need to True, You will be getting a HUGE bonus for all the NCB days you didnt get the bonus for.. Meaning it will equal out.

I have a question. If I were to make a new character.. What would the NCB be exactly?

smallpau1 - Go Blues [Lower My Fees] September 18 2007 3:27 PM EDT

How will we know how long we have this hidden boost for?

noneedforthese September 18 2007 3:38 PM EDT

Best. Thing. Ever.

AdminNightStrike September 18 2007 3:54 PM EDT

It sort of equals out... It doesn't take into account the fact that you can't get a 100% challenge bonus later on, and you can early on, among other things. I will say, though, that it's awesome to put in a retroactive change. I don't recall that ever happening before. Usually it's just a "from now on, it'll be fixed" sort of thing. All in all, very cool.

48DangerZone September 18 2007 3:56 PM EDT

But like before this I got 141%.. If I were to make a new character.. What would the bonus be?

48Zach September 18 2007 4:00 PM EDT

I will DEFINATLY get 7ba refresh by the end now! Awesome!

Soxjr September 18 2007 4:31 PM EDT

Ok. just to figure something out. I have a huge 500% bonus plus and got an extra 2 weeks to go to Oct 2. For a person that just starts today what is their % that they are getting? and thanks jon. Not sure how high I can get in the 3 weeks + i have left, but I will try my best. :)

QBRanger September 18 2007 4:51 PM EDT

Interesting fix.

Anyone know what the N*B is for someone making such a character right now?

AdminJonathan September 18 2007 5:00 PM EDT

"How will we know how long we have this hidden boost for?"

It's not hidden.

AdminJonathan September 18 2007 5:01 PM EDT

"Anyone know what the N*B is for someone making such a character right now?"

About 2.1.

48DangerZone September 18 2007 5:02 PM EDT

Corrected some, but still haven't awnsered our 3 questions..

Mem September 18 2007 5:06 PM EDT

I don't think we can rightfully say that this "fix" is a fix just yet. Only four months, and a determined individual will tell us whether or not this was the appropriate boost to the N*B. That said, I'm loving it.

sooka September 18 2007 5:34 PM EDT

Thank you Jon, as always.

QBRanger September 18 2007 5:47 PM EDT

By 2.1 I assume you mean 210%.

However, a great change as the top was getting rather stale.

/me feels bad for Mikel who for the last 3 weeks of his NCB got a 141% bonus. This change then might have catapulted him into the top 5.

Mikel [Bring it] September 18 2007 6:38 PM EDT

I feel bad too. I was so looking forward to ripping it up.

I'm not going to start a new one though, until I see how this change works, so for the next four months I'll be sitting on my character.

It's still a shame though, I wanted to go totally solo, but I saw that it was getting me no where.

Any chance for a free retrain soon?

Edicinnej September 18 2007 6:41 PM EDT

Mem: I fully intend to be that individual :D
