NUB Versus Vet (in General)

Well... It seems to me Jon has done a darn good job on trying to make the NUB and the veteran bonuses pretty much perfect.
However... I can't help but think there is one very large flaw. Tattoos.
Now, I'm not sure if they were balanced the same way MPR is, but I doubt it. And even if they are, the difference would still be giant. And it's impossible (or nearly so) to get a normal tattoo the first day.
So, here is my question... Can a NUB ever compete with a vet, if they lack the tattoo to do so?
Discuss. =D

Well a NUB could now probably make over 2mill MPR... Tattoos can be bought and insad up.
i have A Tattoo of Endurance lvl 1,469,417, not vastly large but i have seen some over 2mill lvl for insta down so it isnt impossible to get a big tattoo
So i think Yes... :)

NUBs can:
1) Forgo tattoos and fight to the top with a ROE, then use all that free cash they get to buy a higher level tattoo.
2) Buy a baby tattoo and grow it.
3) Forgo tattoos all together and try to fight without one.
4) Combination of 1 and 2. Use a ROE to a certain level, then buy a mid sized tattoo and then grow it.
For the top normal tattoo, consider PoisoN's. It has been with him the entire time and has not been superlevelled by a N*B at any time. Mine and Little Devil's are in a different class.
For the answer to: "Can a NUB ever compete with a vet, if they lack the tattoo to do so? " just look at Little Devil's character. A NUB that has an amazing tattoo. So the answer is yes.
The two largest tats were created before the Max tat was lowered, they will never be replicated.

Ummm...
Show me someone selling a tat over 2 mil. Seriously. I've been looking for a month.

Mem bought the last 2+M tattoo that was for sale.
You need a friendly mate like Tuff who has just finished his nub ;)

Seriously, I sold mine right before Mem bought his as well, and it was 2M. They don't sell often, you're right. But they occasionally do.
I say for sure they can compete. The N*B is fixed great now, and even leveling up a baby tattoo will finish up 2 mil+ with a dedicated player. Heck, I'm hoping to get my tattoo close to 3 mil by the end of my NCB, with the new bonus big tattoos are not as hard to come by as you make it sound.

Yes, they are.
There are less than 40 above mine and mine isn't even 40 mil NW. Basically, not even large enough for a 1.2 mil MPR character.
And those 40 include of every type/

Less than 40...do you realize how few strongly competitive players there are?
there are enough to make it hard to get your hands on a tat...
I think the max tat should be further lowered, and an option to up them with CB should be added.
Because you love the $USD, Nov?
The max tat being lowered further would prevent it from becoming another arms race... in addition it would give teams like mine that have no real specific NW dumping ground a place to spend all that CB.

More than 40 OOB?
As it currently is, the only way to get a decently sized tat is to run an NCB, I don't see what the difference is between spend $US buying BA, or adding levels to a pitifully small tat.
I think it all depends on how you define competitive. Can they have good MPR to score rations, sure, can they have fun and do well, absolutely, can they crack the top 10, not on your life. My character The Thing does just fine without a tattoo. I mean, sure it could possibly be the only way to do it, but regardless, I will take a 3-4X score to PR ratio anyday, and I would hope a new person or a veteran would to.
The reason in my opinion the true question is hard to answer is, it takes a very dedicated person to take their FIRST character to the top.

Ratios really have nothing to do with falling into the "top 10" which is the 6/20 refresh, which is the top 25 or so, now.
But they have everything to do with a good strategy and having fun. Again, if you ask the question, can the NUB ever catch Ranger without a tattoo, shoot, no one can, so why ask that?

I think you mean "with" a tattoo, not without one. With the RoE it's definitely possible, I gain about 3k more MPR every month (when I get my RoE named) than Ranger now because of a RoE, with a somewhat negative challenge bonus, less clan bonus, and missing a lot more BA, seeing as he misses none.
"So, here is my question... Can a NUB ever compete with a vet, if they lack the tattoo to do so?"
This is what I was speaking about, no one can catch Ranger without a tattoo NUB, vet, whatever, but they can STILL compete, and have fun without one. So if the question is can a NUB catch Ranger with out a tattoo the answer is no, if the question is can they be competitive, then the answer is yes

Yes, I see what you're saying, you're right.
