DM and EDs. (in General)

Well... I've always heard that training the same ED across multiple minions is a bad idea, because DM reduces them all individually.

But is that true?

From the few glances I've seen, the EDs stack, THEN get reduced by DM.

4 AS that would by themselves give an effect of 25k are not ALL reduced to zero by a DM that removes 25k. Instead, the 4 25s stack, then are reduced, leaving you with whatever is left.

But I'm not sure. Just asking. Thanks=D

No,

The DM effects EACH ED separately.

That is if you have 4 x 25k AS's and your opponent has a 25k effective DM, all your AS's fail to cast.

D'oh. Someone move this to general?

BootyGod November 1 2007 8:07 PM EDT

Yup. He's right. Just tested it out for peace of mind.

Why is it like that?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 1 2007 8:08 PM EDT

because DM was designed as a foil for the standard CB1 powerhouse teams...

Because you cast Dispel Magic on all enemy minions, not enchantments.

Also... when you train a big DM, then you can't train AMF or EC with it, which is a restriction. RoS allows you to work around this a bit, but not enough to make a huge difference against ED teams at higher levels.

Because you cast Dispel Magic on all enemy minions, not enchantments.

That's the best response I've ever seen to explain it.

Same, Flamey.

Actually, DM is cast on the AURA around enemy minions. That's why your own AMF and/or EC are also dispelled. However, the "fizzles" are for each enemy enchanter. That's actually somewhat interesting now that I think about it...

None of that inherently means that DEs shouldn't stack first. DM _could_ apply to the final stacked level on each enemy minion, but instead affects each part of the DE as it is cast. I don't really think there is any programmatic difference in either, it is simply the way Jonathan implemented it. I like it, obviously, since I have a large DM, but I see the point of folks who would rather have DM cast on the stacked DE level.
