If you liked: Manowar, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden - try King Diamond - it is a more classical Heavy metal

Try Xentrix in the way of Thrash

Dream Theater, Opeth and Voivod for Progressive

For Black or "Goth" metal, try Cradle of Filth, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Emperor, and Satyricon

Power metal usually consists of bands like Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Sonata Arctica, and Finntroll if you want to try Folk-power metal

About half of the so-called Metalcore bands are in fact 'screamo', but Lamb of God and Mastadon are good in the ways of harder metalcore, whereas Trivium is softer

I'm a fan of Deathmetal (gory lyrics and blastbeats) so I'll give you a nice, chunky bandlist: The Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy, Cannibal Corpse, Necrophagist, Obituary, and Morbid Angel

RedWolf November 12 2007 11:41 PM EST

I'm actually not a fan of heavy metal...

But my friends would recommend Amon Amarth.

Are my old eyes deceiving me or did no one mention Sepultura?

Flamey November 13 2007 2:06 AM EST

screamo... Atreyu? It's half screaming, half singing. Old Senses fail has a bit of screaming in it. Yeah, I don't know anymore, I listen to softer stuff.

Can someone explain to me what exactly metal is? I've listened to it (I think), It just sounds like old rock. Explain, someone. :)

Maelstrom November 13 2007 6:36 AM EST

The fine art of metal appreciation must begin with the classics:
- Black Sabbath (the original metal band)
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Metallica (up to and including the Black album, forget the new stuff)
- Iron Maiden

More more modern electro-based metal, check out:
- White Zombie (much better than Rob's solo stuff)
- Fear Factory
- Nine Inch Nails

Some others that I have enjoyed are:
- Atrocity
- Trail of Tears
- Symphony X
- Nightwish
- Sepultura ("Roots" album in particular)

I don't know all those trendy pop/rap/punk -metal bands out there. I do know a variety of industrial metal stuff. The metal genre is huge, with a very wide variety. You should tell us what you have gotten into, so that we can provide you with stuff you would enjoy.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] November 13 2007 7:47 AM EST

I also forgot:

Soulfly
Job For A Cowboy

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 13 2007 7:49 AM EST

...Nightwish (Not traditional "Metal", but I love it.)

Black Sabbath

Iron Maiden

KoRn

Megadeth

Pantera

Slayer.

------------------

Can't think of anything else.

Well, I probably could, but im not.

So I won't.

But I should.

Nevermind.... :)

Those aren't mine, but are important to a friend of mine...

48xVanished48 November 15 2007 7:27 PM EST

I've listened to most. Some are good. Some are bad. I don't think I clearly stated what I was looking for.

I am looking for more newer kind of Metal Bands. Nothing any older then 5 years. Does anyone have any good bands they can share?

48Zach November 15 2007 8:06 PM EST

P.S. He loves DragonForce, which is kind of like Earth Rock..

Maelstrom November 15 2007 9:33 PM EST

I don't believe there have been any new good metal bands in the last five years. The good ones have been around longer. The new ones that sound decent just rip off the older, better bands. Guess that applies to every kind of music.

Unappreciated Misnomer November 16 2007 5:12 AM EST
