what CB used to be (in General)

I thought CB started out as a chat room with a little extra game to play. Now with the 20 min ba refresh the chat just doesnt seem the same. Bring back the old CB 10 min per BA

Eurynome Bartleby [Bartleby's] December 1 2007 9:27 AM EST

The BA tweak did not really change chat at all. At least, not when I'm on. It's still pretty much dead, since there aren't enough of us around. I can not see why it should be brought back to an earlier state, since it makes CB a lot fairer for peeps with other things to do.

And that's coming from me, who was totally against it when it was announced.

but the people who put the time in should get rewarded. i dont see why ranger should spend so much more time playing than other people and yet the local bum who is only on every so often through the day have just as much chance as the top people who are trying so hard. I have noticed the chat die. a lot.

QBRanger December 1 2007 9:42 AM EST

This was one of the concerns when the new BA refresh was put into play.

However, more people are playing CB now then before (according to the stats available), so a reversal to the old rate is not going to happen.

I personally think combining the 2 old rooms into one has a lot to do with the decrease in chat. Now most of the time we get new players who spam chat with endless useless banter including those who cannot even type full sentences. Quite a few people that used to be frequent in chat now stay away.

We used to have nice conversations. Now in the middle of them we get "wats a tattoo?", or "Wat ds ablative shield do?". Quite the conversation breaker.

i agree with you pop, but you can say the exact same thing about spending USD which is a completely different issue. Personally i think it is better with the 20 minutes, not everyone has the time to log on 12312323 times a day to spend BA.

i love the new refresh rate. as for population increase, it has actually fallen in the last week to below the levels when the 20 min refresh was introduced.

perhaps we need a poll and let everyone say which rate they like more and we can see what the cb'ers really think! who can make polls again?

Seems pretty constant all around -- 30 new users a day, 350 to 400 active users per week. That's about what it was before the change. The difference is that before the change, it was trending downwards. After the change, it stabilized.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 1 2007 2:57 PM EST

too true on the downwards trend. my data shows an average of 350 to 375 pre change. it has been around 375 to 400 post change. until the last few days where it dropped below 375 again.

We've been spoiled... I think going back to 10/10 would be the death of us...

QBOddBird December 1 2007 3:19 PM EST

Agreed, Ranger. I just hate it when those newbies ask QUESTIONS about the game. I mean, they should know. We all knew when we started.

Inconvenience is the debil! Bring back the old NP, where newbies withered under the dry, chatless text and the game slowly shifted towards a composition entirely of vets!

QBRanger December 1 2007 3:24 PM EST

OB,

There are questions about the game, and then just stupid drivel.

We need a new players room for basic questions, always needed it. Staffed by people who care to guide these players.

Also, when new players start to use abbreviations such as wat etc... I quickly lose my ability to stay in chat and participate.

Fanta [Fanta's Forge] December 1 2007 3:27 PM EST

That stuff cracks me up.

QBOddBird December 1 2007 3:29 PM EST

"What's a tattoo do" and "What is AS" aren't really what I'd consider stupid drivel, Ranger. When they join this game, they haven't got a clue what an Ablative Shield would be (ablative? like...inflative? How do I blow it up?) and they don't know why in the world getting a tattoo would make them a better fighter.

The syntax -is- bothersome, but that's the internet. Proper spelling and grammar are a thing of the past. They usually learn better quickly, though.

snk4r put us up a poll for the ba issue, go make yourself heard!
