Idea to make game more stratigic... (in General)

KittehShinobu February 9 2008 4:05 AM EST

^_^ I was thinking of having forging stones of elemental properties... each stone has its own unique ability for weapons and armor. There are Fireball, Cone of Cold, Decay, and Magic Missle... Fire, Ice, Dark, Light respectively. Why not make Elemental stones of those 4 elements you can use to forge onto either your weapon or armor? Only rule is you can ONLY have 1 stone for a weapon, and 1 stone for armor... once you forge it to a weapon or armor piece, the stone dissappears and that item you forged to becomes enchanted with that element. =3 choose carefully.

^_^ For example, on any weapon...
Fire- more damage
Ice- Strength/dex lowering
Dark- 10% of poison damage per round for first 5 rounds of whenever the weapon first hits(either Melee or Range) doesnt stack or accumulate after the first registered hit
Light- Cuts AC by a certain % per round for first 5 rounds of whenever the weapon first hits (either Melee or Range) doesnt stack or accumulate after the first registered hit

For Armor
Fire-Resist % Fireball and % damage
Ice- Resist % Cone of Cold and % ED
Dark- Resist % Decay and 5% poison
Light- Resist % Magic Missle and % of AC drain

The CoI is considered to be a weapon for Monks, thus whatever element stone is forged onto it will give Unarmed combat that type of element (yes its an armor, but Monks need to have some form of equality)
As for Mages... whatever stone they forge to their Altar Gloves... only gives them a % boost of that specific element. Fire for FB, Ice for CoC, Light for MM, Dark for Decay.

I was thinking that the wall that doesnt have any weapons should be allowed 2 armor forging stones, but 0 weapon forging stones... but it would make it a bit confusing if it was like that... so I left it out

it would be cool to have some "goals" like reach a certain score, pay a certain amount of CB, reach PR or MPR. Like you can begin one every week, that gives you stones and the more difficult (requires more BA) ones would give more powerful stones. And maybe there is a 0.001% chance of randomly getting one after using a BA (fight or forge).
say 50% chance of getting a +1
25% chance of getting +2
12.5% for +3
6.25% for +4
...
very unlikely to get +10 or higher.

you stole the stone idea from me :p
I had made a post about it in jonathan's thread :"I was here before FB" supporter item ideas.
Granted, you gave it another twist, but still :p

TinTizzy February 9 2008 7:51 AM EST

its nice too see you trying but i really dose not think jon has the time too add this and even if he did it would take very very long.

Although the game is very Rock, Paper Scissors, this is make it even more so. Top Teams will have every type of armor, and swap it according to who is farming them.

I like the weapon ideas, but I don't like how you can apply them to any weapon. It'll be better IMO if they were simply different weapons. I mean, I don't see any reason these should go on anything other than a MH, or maybe a BoTh. Putting it on weapons will balance the game a little better, as we can control directly what is the multiplier is.

KittehShinobu February 9 2008 4:05 PM EST

its why I said what I said, so that others can put their own opinions in and make my idea more realistic. Tampers out the ideas to make them more easier

BootyGod February 9 2008 4:20 PM EST

I believe I suggested an idea very similar to this YEARS ago. It got flamed to hell. So, good luck, Shin.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] February 9 2008 4:43 PM EST

This isn't some fairy-magical element thing. What game are we playing? Elemental-crappy-dumb-poop-magic-machine? No. Carnage Blender.

</end flame>

Jamba in da Juice February 9 2008 6:41 PM EST

maybe you could buy "forging stones" for better forge efficiency instead :P

Templar February 9 2008 6:44 PM EST

/me rekindles [RP08]ColonelCustard's flame.

GummyBear February 9 2008 7:01 PM EST

I don't like the idea, creates confusion IMO

Lord Bob February 9 2008 7:53 PM EST

I don't like it either.

I also think we have plenty of existing features to fix and tweak before we start adding an entirely new element of combat.

This game is based of of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series. Although there are many legendary weapons, armors, trinkets, and items, I do not recall any weapons or armour that had special elemental abilities. There were the exceptions for the extremely skilled in magic; Balrogs, Wizards, and Nazgul for example.

The Balrogs in LOTR had carried whips of flame, and Gandalf used the sword Glamdring; which had no constant imbued power. In the movie, Gandalf was able to imbue Glamdring with lightning from the sky to slay the Balrog. After that, the sword returned to normal. There is more with the Witch King of Angmar's sword. The movie showed him raising his sword which seared in swirling flames that shatters Gandalf's staff.

I doubt that there is anyone on CB who could wield such great powers. I don't think there is a mage out there as strong as Gandalf, or a Warrior as powerful as the Witch King. Although, there are some RoBF user's out there that can wield the power of the Balrog^_^ I think that CB is better off developing new items than turning this into D2 with Gems and Rune Words.

Hmmm... in speaking of Rune Words.

There are items in Tolkien's LOTR books that have been forged with Rune Words in them. Runes are ancient scripture used in his books that are very secretive, and only the very wise know how to read them. Glamdring and Sting were forged by the elves, and engraved in runes. I don't think the Runes had anything to do with the power of the weapons. The runes definitely had to do with the identity of the weapons, because Elrond was able to identify Glamdring and Sting for Gandalf and Frodo.

(Ranting from the top of my head)

KittehShinobu February 10 2008 3:36 AM EST

^_^; well that would make the idea completely stupid if this game IS based off of LotR... oh well. but couldnt they use a "race" idea if it IS based off of LotR?

KittehShinobu February 10 2008 3:40 AM EST

like for example.. Elves being gifted at archery and enchantments...minions of that race get a certain bonus for each... ^_^ I read and watched LotR, but I am not fluent with the different kinds of races there are... =3 anyone can pitch in the races of LotR that match the different classes of CB please pitch the ideas in.

Templar February 10 2008 4:16 AM EST

see, but then a char would be stuck with one stratagy and not adaptable to new items and, most importantly, fix-bug month, i mean, changemonth.

lostling February 10 2008 4:45 AM EST

basically everyone else are humans :)

GummyBear February 10 2008 12:47 PM EST

Elves, dwarves, and humans are the main three. The rest are bad guys :P

GummyBear February 10 2008 12:47 PM EST

And mages too but they're represented by a human character

TheHatchetman February 10 2008 3:11 PM EST

Mages = wizards. Human are another breed all their own. There's also hobbits. How can you forget 'The Hobbit'?

three4thsforsaken February 10 2008 11:58 PM EST

You know, I would love races, just for flavor's sake.

Like you could be an elf if you want, but you gain no in game benefit, other than it saying you're an elf. Or maybe you'll try to beat the other races, kinda PVP like that... kinda like clan wars, only on a large scale.

lostling February 11 2008 12:03 AM EST

hobbit
+5% to gold +5% dex
-5% to str -5% to hp

abilities
random chance to earn an additional 5% more gold
random chance to make opponents focus fire on him

doesnt get along with
orcs, trolls , dark elves
-10% to all trained stats/skills/spells when in the same party as them

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 11 2008 11:59 AM EST

"Mages" (Istari) are actually, ahem, Maiar. Or Angels.
