Official QB Quarter 4, 2007 Nominees With Q and A Resp (in Contests)
This thread is Carnage Blender's permanent record for Quarter Blender 2007, Quarter 4. This thread will remain locked.
Chatmails have been sent to each nominee. Each chatmail contains 5 questions. The questions are a combination of questions asked before in the
previous QB election and some questions asked via the nomination ballot. Upon receiving the responses, I will post them here to help aid your QB vote.
Responses must be turned in to me (by E-mail) no later than 8:00 PM EST on Sunday, February 17, 2008.
The questions that the nominees will be answering (listed right below this post) will certainly be used to narrow down the choices quite a bit to help decide who will be crowned
QB 2007, Quarter 2. And now...
The Nominees (in alphabetical order):
1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?

1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
The people. They're great. They're there to help by giving advice
when ya need it, and the occasional light slap to the back of the head
when you do something dumb. Keeps a great balance. The strategy and depth
are also excellent, in they give me something to think about, and
allow my brain to get some excersize...
Keeping others to stay would be simple, add lame graphics, disband the
PG rule, eliminate BA, and allow multiple accounts. CB is a game that
appeals to a certain type of gamer. We are, unfortunately, the minority.
More seriously though, the only way I see of making CB more appealing
to the new user without destroying the game, would be to have more depth
to the tutorial. Most players that aren't turned off immediately by
the lack of graphics, and inability to spam obsenities are quickly
confused. With more knowledge of he game mechanics thrust upon them, they are
much more likely to get off to a successful start. Success =
Happiness, Failure = (in this case)Frustration (and sometimes) a huge tank team.
The less frustration, and more happiness we can instill from the
beginning, the more people we can get hooked. As far as appealing to the
more mainstream gamer, if we don't already, we won't. They'll come back if
they find themselves more drawn to it at another time...
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
I try to do what I can to help people new and old. Whether it be
with learning the game, strategy advice, connecting buyers and sellers,
and occasionally going out of pocket to provide a loan. My pm box has
almost always been open, and my CM box always will be ^_^
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
People that play the game for the strict purpose of selling CB
cash... Whether it be for USD, or currency from another game... I see it as
a slap in the face of what I've found to be the best game I've ever
played. I say "great game", they say "I've spent my 20 minutes here for
today, pay me!"... LAME!!!
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Gun. He was one of the main people to help get me started, and if
not for him, I'd likely not be where I am now. And to this day, he has
been helping where he can.
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Of course! I'm a wicked clown myself, no clowns = no Hatchetman. Now
ask yourself, "Hatchetman - yes or no?" ;)

1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
This is the best online habit I have. Slow and steady progress taking mins out of my day through out the day. A community which keeps me locked in some evenings. Positive gain, one of the very few games we don't have to worry about being attacked and losing cash in the process. Little here irritates me. If I found better, I wouldn't be here. After selling out of course. Until heck or no water, I'll try to stay here.
Better Tutorial! So many join and quit within the first min because that thing can be frustrating. Also the lack of purty 1337 grfx turns em off. Dump those heaumeheads into chat first thing, let us get a crack at them, and run the tutorial in the left frame or through Quick Links for 8 days. Making it optional giving short tips similar to my NewBot, which is notepad with copy and paste for those who don't know, since some don't see chat. Or read much in general for that matter. Help! is a bit much for them to take in for one day. We love to entertain. Which is why they should be introduced to chat right off so they may see us be naughty. We often act as teachers between BA refreshes. The tutorial doesn't have to advocate cookie cutter SFBMs, but would be nice if fake tanks with DDs were adviced against.
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
If only to end this pointless popularity contest. I wish to be the last QB, if not vote block the other losers, and pose as the final straw in the downfall for this obsolete pageant! Free Edy!
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
Most all things overpowered in ranged. Ignoring the massive amount of posts on the issue. If strats are so utterly dominated by happenings in the first 4 rounds of combat, a new balance must be found within that area.
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Fellow comrade The Hatchetman who has done more across the community than any other nominee this year. Aside from Wasp, my former mentee, the others are embarrassments which make me look like someone you could consider voting for. Talking byproducts from the show Dirty Jobs. Thank you those who nominated me, though I told you not to! Would make me happy to see another deserving comrade as QB.
Vote TH4QB!
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Sure.
One of the lowest forms of entertainment. Normal clowns are one step above mimes. Vile creatures. Bozo the Clown...nuff said. Rodeo clowns actually serve a purpose, so they're ok, while the former should be gored. Killer Clowns from Outer Space, Insane Clown Posse(ICP), Violator from Spawn, those are exceptional clowns. Also, foam-rubber noses and balloon poodles rule.
Flamey
1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
Here comes an amazing unexpected original answer :) Community I guess,
I don't know. It must be, seeing as I'm stuck in 7/20 eating myself to
death, so there's no real reason to play there, but I still do. Yeah,
some people are cool, I like them, they probably make me come back.
We can't really encourage others to stay and play. Many new players
join the game expecting something different, if it's not what they want
then they're not going to stay now matter how kind or appealing we try to
make the game to be. We can encourage people to stay by making things
less confusing, the goals for New players have helped with this, but I
think we need a whole revamp of the tutorial (Something Hatch should
look into).
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
I've had to look up what conceit means, I've come to conclude it's self
love. Not to stray to the PG boundaries, I'll simply say that I'm
quite active, I'm in chat a lot, I'm on the forums a lot, I can respond
fairly quickly. I wouldn't vote for me, so why would you?
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
7/20. Just die, honestly. The hardest part in the game, and there's one
day where you'll go from 7/20 to 6/20 and amazingly the game gets so
much easier! Let's hinder those trying to catch up with negative
challenge bonuses!
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Hatch, he's pretty cool, thinks like me, actually I'd say he's like me
only better, smarter and quicker.
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Clowns = Hatch? Then yes. Why not Hatch?

1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
To put it bluntly I come back to CB because I'm addicted. I'm
addicted to the game itself, and I'm
addicted to the people that play too. A few months ago I had a lot
going on in RL and decided to sell out
and "quit". I organised a sale and sold off all my gear and then sod
off all the profits I made. However,
I didn't leave, I couldn't. I've been playing this game for years and
enjoy it that much! Besides, I
enjoy driving like a mad man in order to get home so I don't miss out
on BA!
The discussions that take place in the forums are great. You can see
the same story from a different perspective,
from Monty wanting a short loan of 2million to Ranger battling it out
with evasion. It's all good reading. Even the
more technical stuff posted by Nightstrike, Sefton and Sutekth. They
all make for excellent reads. I may not throw
my 2 cents in every post I look at, but it doesn't mean I don't read
nearly every post in the forum and enjoy
the battles!
No other game has this sort of environment and I think it's down to a
selection of great players and a few rules.
The game itself filters out people that just want to cause trouble. No
graphics entice a degree of intelligence,
along with the all famous PG rule. Knit this together and you get
Carnage Blender - This is why I can't leave!
Retaining players is a different ball game. Only certain players will
stay and play, as this game isn't to
everyones fancy. Which is fair enough. We have to show the better parts
of the game to all the players that join.
We must try to knit them into the social community as well as the
gaming part of the game. The harder part is
to try and get them to knit with the game. The mentor system helps on
both parts and the reward scheme helps
a little but I'm not sure on a solid solution. We get a decent influx
of great new players at the moment.
I see some great talent that could and should be hitting the high
ranks. We need to try and get this out of
every new player who joins. Maybe more information in the walkthrough
guide when you join would be better. I
honestly don't know.
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
Only one reason? Thats hard. I'd say I didn't deserve it for one
particular reason. I play the game, take
part in some discussions, provide my forging service for everyone and
most importantly of all, I help people out
with strat advise when I can. That would probably be my one reason. I
endeavour to help new players to tweak their
strats. We all know that if a newbie has a terrible strat, chances are
they will quit. So to help retain that extra
player, I tweak his/her strat to the best of my abbilities and offer
any advice that will help them. I enjoy helping,
so no reward for that is needed.
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
My least favourite thing about CB. Hmmm theres a few. It's between a
good few. I think the most annoying feature
of CB.. This is a more harder question then it sounds. All the things
that annoy me are good for the game. Changes
in the mechanics of the game allow variation. Such as the RoBF and the
SoD. These may be annoying but they keep everyone
on their toes, its good stuff. I think the most annoying thing is the
NUB forgers with their bonus's. It undercut us
normal forgers big time. It was a slap in the face to all forger as
people with 300k mpr were forging nearly 3 times
more then a 2 million mpr character. Now thats sorted out, the clocks
ticking down for the remaining NUB forgers.
(sorry NUB forgers, but you gotta understand!)
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Voting for someone else... hmm. Can't see that happening! On a
serious note I would have to vote for maybe Flamey and
The Hatchet. They are great assets to the game. Also a special mention
to my former mentor Gun. He trained me well(ish)!
However, I think that whoever is answering these questions deserves
the award for some reason or another. I know I feel privilaged to be
asked the 5 questions!
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Clowns. It depends what age you are I think. When you're young,
clowns are great. Make you laugh and what not.
Once you get a bit older though, after you watch some dodgy films, your
opinion changes. You suddenly feel that they
are watching you in a creepy way. Then you have the nightmares. Then
you hate them.
Thats generalising though. I don't have a problem with them, they don't
make me laugh though so I'd have to answer Yes!

1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
No matter how much I try to think of something else, I can't think of
anything but the community. The chat applet does the trick for me.
Adding some mystery in the tutorial might help.
For example, at the end of the tutorial you can say: Reach 1m mpr and
you'll notice something brand new to explore.
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
Some conceit...pretty hard to show that if you really have nothing to
be conceited about.
Honestly, I really wouldn't know why anyone should vote for me.
I'm not planning on learning more about this game than I already know.
I'm happy with my place as an average knowledged player. Doesn't mean I
won't help anybody out...I'll speak up if I think my little bit of
understanding of this game might help somebody out.
Otherwise, you can be sure I'll keep my mouth shut. No need to
complicate things with irrelevant info. That's why you won't see me in the
forums much.
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
The forge interface. At the current state, I find it very
underdeveloped compared to the rest of CB gameplay.
While the fighting is kept fun by subtle (and sometimes not so subtle)
changes, the forge interface undergoes not even the smallest change.
P.S.: I don't consider the disappearing of the cb tag a change.
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Gun because he'll actually loan himself for those who want to fire a
bullet or two. Talked about unselfish.
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Definitely no....why clowns if we have our very own Twirly face.

1) What keeps you coming back to CB? And, how can we encourage others to play and stay? Provide an example for the latter question.
Besides the community (everyone always says community...) I come back to see where CB is going. So I can say I was here since near the beginning. To help pass through this time of relatively few players until we have thousands, than more and more. I want to see what Jon can do with a huge gamer base under his belt. Basically... I stay for the future of CB.
2) Give one reason you should be considered for this honor. Please don't give the easy answer "I don't deserve it." Dig deep show some conceit here!
I'm a bleeding heart, and every game needs one of them. I respect everyone, and like most people. And I always try to help people. Even if it doesn't seem like it, I really am just trying to help ^.^
3) What is your least favorite thing about CB and why does it bother you?
Eh. It's complicated.... Stick with me here ;P I'm annoyed that everyone (including myself) is looking for the quick fix to all the "problems" in the game. Ranged damage is too high, reduce it. Evasion is too high, reduce it. It goes on and on, from item to item. This game is a scale with a thousand, thousand weighing plates. You can't simply start taking and adding weights. There has to be a balance. And I think Jon is doing the best he can. Yet we sit back and ask why something hasn't been done yet. And I'm wondering if the patient ever rushes the surgeon above him. Everything he does seems to be done with a-lot of thought. At least I hope it is ;P and yet at the start of every change we just let loose. That doesn't do what gets to me justice, but it's as good as I can do.
4) Which of the others would you vote for and why?
Bad question. I won't answer, except to say all of them. I'm sorry, I know at least someone wanted this question answered. But the nominees were chosen by the community, and I would support any of these players as QB, be it my bleeding heart or my brain speaking.
5) Clowns - yes or no? And why?
Yo. Clowns fulfill a vital role in pre-recognizing all forms of psychopaths. How many lives have been saved by people avoiding homicidal clowns everywhere? If all murderers wore bright clothes and shot water at you, the death rate in the world would drop substantially ^.^ My head hurts. Hope this will suffice.
