Is the AoL helping anyone? (in General)

QBRanger February 11 2008 11:27 AM EST

I had hoped with the AoL, it would help out a bit. However, even at +12 effective, I notice i do not hit high evasion minions any more frequently. Even the 12% bonus to strength is not very noticeable in the damage my tank does.

And yes, I have boosted my archery skill to more then compensate for the increased strength on my tank. Its effective level is over 1.675M now.

I do not use DD spells and Sut does state some benefit on Hubbell with 2 AoL's.

Does anyone else see a big difference using the AoL?
Is it possible to use the AoL correctly on a character since if the first minion wearing it dies, the effects are gone?

I think the AoL is best for HoC using mages who want that extra oomph in their DD spells. For archers, it helps vs MM mages but vs FB, typically the first minion dies before they can even hit evasion minions.

I bought one, but haven't had time to try anything out. Using it require rearranging my minion order or losing a ton of UC, as I have an AOF on my first minion. I can say that this definitely isn't a pro-UC item :)

IndependenZ February 11 2008 11:40 AM EST

Well, in my particular setup on Miami Vice (enchanter with AoL and huge AMF, UC-tank, PL battery), it seems to work wonders for my exbow. I see people losing and drawing to me now, just because I can hit and drain them more often. My enchanter stays alive thanks to my PL battery (that used to be an unfortunate side-effect, lol), and thus it gives PTH to my UC-minion.

I haven't seen a major change in my fightlist or anything, but I think it is actually helping. A bit. :p

I won't know if it is useful or not since I am not using my familiar yet. I imagine that the extra power it will grant my Ice Familiar when I start fighting with it will be very useful when combined with the junctioned NSC.

QBJohnnywas February 11 2008 11:49 AM EST

I'm getting few hits in the first round against some DBs where previously I would miss outright. And that's enough to turn a fight my way.

But it's only a couple of fights; my 'lead' minion quite often dies before it's worth anything to me.

Having said that though, it's quite useful against exbow/axbow teams because they're targetting my back (evasive) minion. So while he's living the 'leader' stays alive...

Can take it or leave it really...

As usual, apart from HoC, I think Jon's made an item that seems like it could be amazingly good if only one could figure out how to use it or it appears as if it wouldn't be worth the trade-off against another article until someone figures out a great benefit and now we're all breaking our brains trying to figure this one out.
I think that's about optimal. It's not a no-brainer. He's mixing things up again. I haven't bought one yet because I don't have the CBD to build it up but I'm sure I will get one. It seems so tantalizing.

QBsutekh137 February 11 2008 12:18 PM EST

It helped me draw Mikel.

But, as you will see in a lengthy post I am about to submit, it will eventually be a worse thing for me because of a very specific item in the game that you can probably already guess. *smile*

So, for me, the AoL (even two of them) is a wash at best, and probably a waste of a lot of money at worst. As far as I can see, the only team that could _really_ benefit from the AoL would be a team that devoted the front slot to a huge Evasion minion with a lot of HP that did nothing else (because AoL does not enhance the wearer). Any teams like that?

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] February 11 2008 4:29 PM EST

I think it is pretty useful. But, it's really not anything to jump up and down about.

Talion February 11 2008 4:38 PM EST

The only amulet my front minion could really use was the AoAC. Some will say that the AoF would also have been useful, but the boost to AMF and/or EC was too much of a disadvantage imop.

The AoL is more useful to my front minion than any other amulet right now. If only for that reason, it is worth the money I already spent, and will eventually spend, on it.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] February 11 2008 4:52 PM EST

The AoL will actually be very useful for me. I'm planning on running a 5 tank team for my ncb. Though i don't think anyone else is planning to do something like that.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] February 11 2008 5:05 PM EST

I can't really see much use for the AoL.

miteke [Superheros] February 12 2008 3:51 PM EST

Too bad it can't be used on the minion in back. Probably more realistic since that's where leaders usually are. But would it then become too powerful?

ScY February 12 2008 4:01 PM EST

Its helped me tons... oh wait I dont have one =)

Need to work on that...

Phrede February 12 2008 4:39 PM EST

nope - kind you I had to reverse my minions to make it work so that may be the problem

QBOddBird February 13 2008 1:18 AM EST

'fraid this is likely an item I won't be getting.

Amulet of Seclusion, the single minion's choice, FTW! *crosses fingers*

Brakke Bres [Ow man] February 13 2008 7:54 AM EST

what if the AoL gives +1% for each point to ED and EO like the corn instead of the 1% DD or PTH? That would drastically increase the usability of the amulet.

Obscurans February 13 2008 8:09 AM EST

Then there's no point in making it sit on the front minion other than losing that particular amulet slot, possibly an AoI guy that doesn't want to get hit by MM?

QBRanger February 13 2008 9:22 AM EST

I find it very hard to plan and implement a strategy using an item that I cannot count on working 100% of the time.

However, it is a new item with a new way of working.

QBsutekh137 February 13 2008 9:30 AM EST

Isn't that the very definition of rock/scissors/paper? Knowing your strategy will not work against certain things? people clamor about how great rock/scissors/paper is, I sure hope they don't now say "yeah, but..." about the AoL. This is EXACTLY the type of thing that people insist make the game fun. One or the other has to give.

For anyone who truly wanted a new rock/scissors/paper dynamic to the game, this is probably the freshest idea CB has seen in a long, long time.

If you want something that works against everyone, by all means just stick with the incredibly boring damage reduction and PL/TSA/MgS/VA type of thing... That is an "everything" tactic that no one seems to object to, no matter how mind-numbingly dull it is.

Heh. Not everyone has that luxury. Tanks have evasion, exbow, axbow, ec to worry about. Mages have...well everything else. RBF minions have PTH and Jon's future plans.

You're in a very tiny minority of people who who have 100% surety to back up their strategy planning.

QBsutekh137 February 13 2008 9:41 AM EST

Having something work 100% of the time gives Todd an unfair advantage. *smile*

Lord Bob February 13 2008 10:04 AM EST

"RBF minions have PTH..."

Not so much though.

QBRanger February 13 2008 10:21 AM EST

"RBF minions have PTH and Jon's future plans. "

I almost fell off my chair laughing at that one.

That and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

But I agree, it is a new way of having items work. However, it does make it very hard to work such an item into a strategy.

That typed, I would certainly like to see more of these type items in play.
