Evasion question. (in General)

EBs with evasion: obviously they raise the skill level. But do we have any idea if their bonus to dex also comes into play on the defensive dex granted by the evasion they've boosted?

In other words do we get a double dip from matching evasion and EBs?

QBJohnnywas March 31 2008 9:36 AM EDT

And yes, I know the Wiki says:"This bonus applies only to trained DX and DX from Tattoo of Augmentation" with regards to EBs. But we didn't know that EC worked on evasion's defensive dex for quite some time until Jon let it slip.

Just wondering if it was apparent at all when evasion was showing it's bits a little while ago...

I would assume that you still get the extra defensive dexterity as made apparent by the training page. For example, this is my Evasion line:

2,414,760 1,829,364 152 136

So, the EBs already show their effect -- they make my Evasion level 2414760. That is therefore my defensive dexterity. I'm not sure why or how it could work any other way? I have always assumed my defensive dexterity was the "Level" of my Evasion as seen on the training page (plus any multipliers for ranged).

So yes, the "double dip" is in effect, because the boots have already increased my Evasion effect AND level, and the defensive dexterity from Evasion is bestowed by that level.

I'm not sure if you've understood what I'm musing on. Evasion has it's own 'double dip' already. That's fine. And yup, the defensive dex is equal to the evasion level. That's fine too. But we don't 'see' the defensive dex; it's not in our play by play or showing on our characters.

I'm just musing on whether or not EBs, once having boosted our evasion (and raising our defensive dex by raising evasion's level) also then go to work on the resultant invisible Dex? As a secondary or following action.

Seems like a hard thing to test.

I believe it was explained that EC only works on evasion because defensive dex is added to the original negative dex.

QBsutekh137 March 31 2008 10:25 AM EDT

You mean if I also had dexterity trained, would it increase that too? I'm really not following you here... :\ I don't understand what invisible dexterity you are referring to. Here's what EBs do:

Increase Evasion level AND dexterity.

So, I will ask the questions (that I think you are asking), and will answer them:

1. EBs enhance evasion effect: YES
2. EBs therefore enhance defensive dexterity bestowed by enhance Evasion level? YES
3. EBs then augment that (already enhanced) defensive dexterity AGAIN by the same percentage, seeing the skill augment as one "up" and then dexterity as another thing to "up"? NO
4. EBs enhance straight dexterity? YES
5. All of those effects and levels from Evasion (along with the augmentation from the EBs) get enhanced by ranged multipliers? YES

Can you add questions to the list that I have missed? My third question/answer maybe gets to what you are referring too -- we have no reason to believe EBs would augment the defensive dexterity due to the skill augment and THEN still further augment that portion of dexterity. Evasion-bestowed dexterity and straight dexterity are two separate buckets, as far as I have ever heard or observed...

He's asking whether there's possibly a basically a double application of the EB bonus on Defensive dex, like the Beleg's used to have.

QBJohnnywas March 31 2008 10:33 AM EDT

Sut, your question 3 is what I'm wondering. Just a Monday afternoon brain walk....;)

QBJohnnywas March 31 2008 10:42 AM EDT

Actually yes Ice (Ice Baby) is better at simplifying what my holiday addled brain is asking!

It was Beleg's that got me thinking..

QBsutekh137 March 31 2008 10:45 AM EDT

I have no knowledge of Beleg's or how they work...

But if EBs are enhancing my defensive dexterity to 2.4 million and then augmenting by ANOTHER third, my defensive dexterity would be 3.2 million, plus ranged multipliers -- even Platypus Phlegm wouldn't hit me, but he does. Though maybe that is from the pth part of cth... Not sure. I didn't know other items (like BGs) double-dipped, so your Monday walk (holiday?) could be a very pertinent one! *smile*

sutekh here's the thread on Beleg's being fixed

The bonus was being applied twice.
